Sailed to U.S. on "Griffen" in 1633. Landed in Boston on Sept. 4th. Helped founding of Harvard College
in 1636, as he befrended John Harvard during this journey.
He named his son "Seaborn", as he was born at sea during this journey.
His doughter Maria married Increase Mathers, a famous Puritan preacher in Boston. One of their children was Cotton Mathers, also a famous Puritan preacher in Boston following in his father's footsteps. Both Increase and Cotton Mathers were instrumental in the Salem witch trials in the late 1600's.

EXETER -- Corinne E. Cotton, 85, of Vincent Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Cotton was born April 19, 1921, in Millinocket, Maine, the daughter of Ralph L. and Carrie E. (Sturgeon) Robinson.
She resided in Newmarket from 1959 to 1970 and has lived in Exeter since 1977.
Mrs. Cotton worked at Thompson Hall at the University of New Hampshire, the Exeter Manufacturing Co., and Phillips Exeter Academy.
She was a member of the Newmarket Community Church and the Newmarket High School Booster Club.
She was a member of Corinthian -- Queen Esther Chapter O.E.S. in Kingston, and was a former vice president of Penobscot County Cooperative Extension Service in Bangor, Maine.
Corinne was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd P. Cotton Sr., in 1996; and by her daughter, Phyllis Zottoli.
She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Vose of California, Pamela Walker of Nottingham and Cynthia Busch of Winterport; two sons, L. Philip Cotton Jr. of Newmarket and Timothy D. Cotton of Nottingham; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; five brothers, Preston S. Robinson of Colorado, Wilmot H. Robinson of Millinocket, Maine, Ralph L. Robinson of Nashua, Earl J. Robinson of Holden, Maine, and Paul W. Robinson of Maitland, Fla.; one sister, Carrie Farquhar of Millinocket, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

NASHUA, N.H. \endash Freda E. (Cotton) Roderick, 72, died June 24, 2006, at Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington, Mass., after a brief illness. Mrs. Roderick was born Sept. 18, 1933, in Millinocket, daughter of Phillip C. and Louise (Hanson) Cotton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Millinocket and was a graduate of Stearns High School. She lived in Millinocket until 1968, and was a resident of Milford, N.H. from 1970 to 2004. She was the wife of the late Charles Roderick, to whom she was married for 27 years. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother and recently became a great-grandmother. She enjoyed baking, knitting and crocheting, shopping on the home shopping channels and visits from her family. Mrs. Roderick worked for several years at EPVA in Wilton, N.H. In 1977, she completed cosmetology training and began working in salons at Almy's and later at Montgomery Ward, before purchasing her own salon in the Nashua Mall Annex. She owned Shear Image Beauty Salon. She retired in 1989, due to health concerns. She was predeceased by her son, Bryant Carter, who died in 1994; three brothers, Roland, Harley and Lloyd Cotton; three sisters, Olive McCollum, Ruth Ferreira and June Hancock. Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Dudley and Kathleen Carter of Nashua, N.H., Roland and Linda Carter of Merrimack, N.H., Mark Carter and Tracey Carter, both of Nashua, N.H.; two sisters, Inez Bowles of Hendersonville, N.C. and Arlene Carlstrom of Bangor; a brother, Ronald Cotton of Medway; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews and cousins; two close nieces, Dorothy Brown of Lowell, Mass. and Joannie Perry of Ashburnham, Mass.; and close friend, Gail Tucker of Milford.

Sailed to U.S. on "Griffen" in 1633. Landed in Boston on Sept. 4th. Helped founding of Harvard College
in 1636, as he befrended John Harvard during this journey.
He named his son "Seaborn", as he was born at sea during this journey.
His doughter Maria married Increase Mathers, a famous Puritan preacher in Boston. One of their children was Cotton Mathers, also a famous Puritan preacher in Boston following in his father's footsteps. Both Increase and Cotton Mathers were instrumental in the Salem witch trials in the late 1600's.

The funeral of Thos. Cottrell deceased, will be held from the residence
of John a. Cottrell, 1228 C. Street, Wednsday at 2. Mr. Cottrell was a
native of New Brunswick, having spent the greater part of his life in
that province. He had lived over the alloted time of man, having passed
the three score and ten mark, being 92 years, 1 month and 27 days of age
at the time of his death.
In his own country, Mr. Cottrell was a man of public prominence, having
filled every public office vested in her citizens. He was a pioneer in
all movements for advancement and atthe age of 18 drove an ox team,
hauling the first spruce logs ever, felled in the vicinity of his home.
At 19 years, he with some others who were interested, packed into
thewoods at the west of Waweig river, and built a mill.
In a carefully preserved diary, of his own, the entry appears to the
effect thathe stayed and worked in the mill he had helped to erect, till
the sills of his bed began to decay. In the diary of events connected
with his life as a young man he gives data and detail, having kept a full
record of all cases tried before him in the capacity of magistrate. From
1858 till about 1869 or 1870he filled that office. He was then elected
to the legislature and served four years, succeeding himself in that
office. Mr. Cottrell was well known by his town and country folk, being
one of the head authorities.
At The Ripe Old Age
The Daily Standard, published at Eureka, California, October 7th,
contained the following announcement: "Thos. Cottrell, the venerable
father of Augustus and John A. Cottrell of this city, died at the home of
the latter, on CStreet at 6:40 o?clock this morning from the natural
breakdown incident, to extreme old age. The old gentleman was two months
over ninety-two years old at the time of his death, but up to a week ago
had been comparatively halo andhearty. He was a native of Oak Bay, New
Brunswick, and in that province had been a noted man for he served as
magistrate for forty five years and for eight years was a member of its
legislature. He leaves besides the sons mentioned two daughters, the
Misses Olive and Marie Cottrell, the former of New York and the latter of
this city.
