Peter 1 Lyon was born in England, and died 1693-4 in Dorchester, Mass.. It is belived he came from London of Essex or Middlesex stock. (1) Petermarried Ann Tolman 26 Nov 1649 in Dorchester, Norfolk, MA.. He was made freeman in Dorchester on 02 May 1649,(2) and his first recorded child was born in 1650, putting his birth probably between 1620 - 1630. (3) Peter was a weaver by trade. He received a £1 bounty in 1657 for killing a wolf. (4) He signed a petition to the General Court in 1664 as an inhabitant of Dorchester (5) and appears on a list of First Settlers of New England as Lyon, Peter, Dorchester 1664. (6) In 1665 he was granted a strip of ground for a highway. He was summoned by the Selectmen regarding complaints about his sons. He reported that they follow their employment, and that he would look diligently after them. He served on juries in 1675, 1677 and 1685 and in 1681-2 held what would now be considered the very undesirable office of tithing man.. In 1693 he sold a house and loton Green St. to the Davenports shortly before his death. (7)

It is said that Dominicus Carter would have been one of first company of 1847 pioneers, but being an expert blacksmith, he was requested by the leaders to remain at Council Bluffs and help prepare the immigrant trains for the long journey.
He crossed the plains in 1851 accompanied by his aged mother, and they arrived in Salt Lake City 20 June, 1851. Shortly afterward he went to Provo, and in 1852 was selected as counselor to George A. Smith who was called to preside over the settlement. This position he occupied for years. The first president of Utah Stake was James C. Snow, son-in-law of Hannah Carter. In 1852, William F. Carter, another son, was appointed to a mission in India. He bore a letter of recommendation signed by the First Presidency, which read:
This certifies that the bearer, William F. Carter, is in full faith and fellowship with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and by the very authorities of said Church, has been duly appointed a mission to Hindoostan to preach the gospel and administer in all the ordinances thereof pertaining to his office. And we invite all men to give heed to his teachings and counselings as a man of God sent to open to them the door of life and salvation; and assist him in his travels in whatsoever things he may have need. And we pray God, the Eternal Father, to bless Elder W. F. Carter and all who receive him and administer to his comfort, with the blessings of heaven and earth for time and all eternity. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

History of George Dominicus Carter, Compiled by his daughter, Ethel Carter Barrington Cook 1930, Edited by his great-grandson Jonathan Christian Carter 1996...
He married Lovisa Philena Green in the Salt Lake Endowment house July 17, 1876. They lived in Provo, Utah where he worked at different things and soon started working for the Rail Road company making ties and laying rails. In this way he worked his way to Preston but soon went to Tintic Utah to work in the mines where he remained for a few years after which he moved his family back to Preston. At this time he was father of six children (3 boys and 3 girls) but had buried three of them in infancy. His wife being very delicate and having poor health made it necessary for him to remain at home, so he rented a small home in Preston. His wife died August 16, 1888. The two girls were left with their grandma Green and the son with Kate Greaves2. He went to Caribou Idaho to work for the Government. He received word that his son had been accidentally killed (drug to death by a horse). Shortly after returning to Preston he married Kate Eames Greaves2 on April 10, 1890. While living on her farm he built a beautiful home and was one of Preston's earliest settlers. He helped to make Preston a beautiful place by planting shade trees, building roads, making ditches, and helping to build churches and schools by paying money and also doing work. He was very liberal to those in need.
He and his second wife had four children (one girl and 3 boys) but because of family troubles he walked out of his beautiful home, a broken hearted man, with a team, wagon and two old quilts. He went to Cub River Canyon (21 miles east of Preston) and there with his brother Warren lived for many years. Not long after going there, 3 large barns, a 3 room house, a chicken coop and other buildings were erected. They were very prosperous and kind to all people passing by.
Due to illness he sold his ranch September 15, 1916 and went to Riverdale Idaho where he lived with his daughter Ethel Barrington for about five years. He also lived a short time at Preston with his son Myrin3 Carter. He then went to Glendale and lived with his daughter Mary Elizabeth Warner for about two years. He died there December 7, 1922 and was buried in Preston, Idaho.
He died with a testimony of the Gospel. He was survived by six children and several grandchildren whom he encouraged while on his death bed to live the Gospel and do what was right.

BRIGHAM YOUNG
HEBER C. KIMBALL
WILLARD RICHARDS
He was also given the following letter of introduction.
To whom it may concern. Know ye that I, Brigham Young, governor of said territory in the United States of America, and I am personally acquainted with the bearer, William F. Carter, and know him be a respectable, high-minded, and honorable man.
And as Mr. Carter proposes visiting Asia on a mission, I cheerfully recommend him to the protection and the respect of all sovereigns, ministers of state, magistrates, and police authorities, and to the esteem of all honorable men among whom he may sojourn.
In token of which I have hereunto subscribed my name and caused the seal of said territory to be affixed at Great Salt Lake City, the first day of October, 1852, and of the independence of the United States of America the twenty-seventh by the governor.
BRIGHAM YOUNG
WILLARD RICHARDS,
Appointed by the Governor secretary protem.
During this mission he traveled completely around the world. He returned in 1853, visiting on his way back relatives in Maine and Illinois.
