Samuel White Soule was born 1785, the fourth child of John Soule and Abiga
il White (Mayflower Families Through Five Generations Vol. 3, p. 159) pa
ge reproduced in Soule family notebook, 1990 Page 336. The family w
as in Pemebrooke, Maine in the 1790 census, Turner, Maine in the 1810 cens
us. The above reference states that the family moved to Canada before arr
iving in Michigan. Samuel Wite Soule married Elizabeth Soule (born 1805
?) on Nov. 3, 1827 in Avon, Maine. The family left maine about 1837 wi
th three young children; Caroline, Peleg, Alexander and a fourth on the w
ay (Eleanor). This information was sent by Verda Timko for the 1992 Sou
le notebook, and is from a manuscript by Samuel White Soule's son, Alexand
er, which Blake Soule now has. Samuel Soule had two brothers, one who w
as named Aaron and two sisters, Lydia and Abigail. He was a sailor for fo
rty years. His last trip took three years. Samuel and Elizabeth left Avo
n, Maine by horse and wagon with their young children for Michigan someti
me around 1837. Thye had misfortune and settled near the Thames River n
ot far from London, Canada. Samuel took up farming there until his deat
h. His children migrated to Michigan starting with Alexander in 1858. T
he family is listed in the 1851-52 census of upper Canada, Middlesex Count
y, Westminister twp. Ward 3. (This is present day London, Ontario, on t
he south bank of the Thames River and traversed by Plingman's Cree
k. He is a shoemaker, Alexander born in U.S. and David, Riley and Mart
ha born in Canada. Martha is possibly Mary whoe gravestone was broug
ht to Soule Cenetary in Michigan. Caroline, Peleg, and Eleanor were n
ot in the census but these children were old enough to be on their own. T
he story of Samuel White Soules death on 7-26-1857 is reported in the Ju
ly 28, 1857 issue of the London Free Press and Daily Western Advertise
r, p. 2 col. 4 (SUDDEN DEATH-An inquest was held yesterday by Dr. Moore, C
oroner, on the remains of Mr. Samuel Soule, age 71, on of the oldest settl
ers in the Twonship of Westminster. The evidence went to show that the de
ceased left his home on Sunday morning at half-past five, to go to a frien
d's some distance off. On the way he got some liquor, whiskey, and aft
er going a few yards, fell down, and soon expired. Deceased had for a lo
ng time borne an exemplary character for honesty and integrity, but for so
me months past had become much addicted to liquor. It is not supposed how
ever that he was in liquor at the time of his death. The jury return
ed a verdict that deceased died from apoplexy caused by habitual intempere

lizabeth Soule, Samuel W. Soules widow is mentioned twice in the London On
tario Free Press Index; In 1870 she sues GTR Co. for injury caused by ne
gligence and won 500 pounds or dollars. In 1877, when she was 72, two bur
glers entered her room. She ordered them out. They left. She died Au
g. 4, 1888. The headstones of Samuel White Soule, Elizabeth Soule and the
ir daughter Mary are in the Tyre, Michigan Cemetery. The information fr
om Alexander Soule manuscript as ssent by Veda Timko for the 1992 editi
on of the Soule notebook states that Alexander Soule moved to Michig
an in 1857 homesteading 80 acres near Tyre, Mich. Alexander Soule, s
on of Samuel and Elizabeth, and his family are listed in the 1860 and 18

On 23 March 1964, in response to my inquiry to the town clerk of Yarmouth, Maine, regarding the ancestry of my great grandfather, Joseph G. Mansfield, I received a response from Katherine P. Tinker. She cited no sources. In that letter she wrote:
..."James was the son of Jedediah and Tabitha (Bishop) Soule and the brother of Deborah (Soule) Hamilton."
"Mayflower Families In Progress" series' volume on "George Soule of the Mayflower and His Descendants for Four Generations", 2nd ed., published by The General Society of Mayflower Descendants in 1995, identifies James as the son of JEDEDIAH AND TABITHA SOULE.
According to Vol 3 of "Mayflower Families" (G 974.401 P 738 MY), in which James is listed as entry # 391, he served in the war for independence.

On 23 March 1964, in response to my inquiry to the town clerk of Yarmouth, Maine, regarding the ancestry of my great grandfather, Joseph G. Mansfield, I received a response from Katherine P. Tinker. She cited no sources. In the hand-drawn chart which she attached to that letter she identified Moses and Mercy as parents of Jedediah Soule.
"Mayflower Families In Progress" series' volume on "George Soule of the Mayflower and His Descendants for Four Generations", 2nd ed., published by The General Society of Mayflower Descendants in 1995, identifies Mercy as dau. of Edward and Mary (Pabodie) Southworth.

Two successive generations of Robert Soule - Elizabeth Tylson couples seems very improbable to say the least ! McBride's source is the LDS-AF.
