In Brentwood, family records indicate that several houses were licens ed as inns and/or stage stops. At the Rhodes-Greenleaf house horses we re changed on the route from Concord to Portsmouth. The front room was t he dining room with the bar across one corner. There were five fire plac es in this house, one of which measuring 7'4" by 4'3", is in the dining ro om. Most of the rooms are panelled. This is undoubtedly the inn licens ed in 1765 to James Robinson Jr. who "lived near the meeting house."
The Brentwood town record for March 18,1771 states that it was "voted: t hat the meeting be adjourned to the home of Lieut. James Robinson, Innhold er, in the evening - meeting being called according to adjournment."
