Millie was a people person and truly enjoyed everyone with whom she came in contact. She was the type of person who made lifetime friends, and she was a great wife, mother, nana and sister.
She loved sports, especially her favorite Red Sox, New England Patriots, Madison football and University of Maine teams. She was also an avid fan of ice skating and loved watching the Olympics. In addition, she enjoyed snowmobiling and camping with her family and vacationing with her sisters. Millie worked at the Sylvania defense plant in Ipswich, Mass., during World War II, making parts for bomb units. She also worked for Norrwock Shoe in Skowhegan and Anson Stick Mill in Madison. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harvell Bishop Post No. 7865 Auxiliary for many years and was also a life member of Minerva Chapter of the Eastern Star in Madison. She was a volunteer working with the children at Old Point Avenue School teaching them crafts, reading to them and teaching them to cook brown bread. She was also a volunteer at Maplecrest Nursing Home in Madison.
Millie was a member of the United Baptist Church in Madison, where she served on the Abiding Memorial Scholarship Committee and the Library Committee. She also sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and helped in other needed areas. She loved gospel and country music as well as old folk songs.
The family would like to thank Millie's many caregivers for all the wonderful care they gave her at Cedar Ridge Nursing facility. Her caregivers are all wonderful people who took care of her with tenderness, compassion, patience and understanding. The family would also like to thank Wendy Dicranian, who was a godsend during the last few years of Millie's care. There is also a special thank-you for the other wonderful people who gave so selflessly to Millie over the years -- Crystal Thebarge, who was like a daughter to her and her hairdresser for many years; Jamie Doiron, for all the wonderful attention he gave her; and Mary Clough, her neighbor and friend who provided Millie with many meals and hours of companionship.
Millie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Albert; two brothers, Laurier and Alfred C. Hendsbee; and three sisters, May Aho, Lillian Craven and Muriel Remick.

1 _MEDICAL April 13, 1999, Mike had his aortic heart valve replaced with a tissue valve.
!Military: Mike served in the O.S.S. during World War Two which was the Office of Strategic S ervice. The O.S.S. was a spy unit, formed by General William "Wild Bill" Donavan. Mike was in the famous and most decorated outfit, the Jedburghs who parachuted behind enemy lines into France in teams of three prior to D-Day. The name of the Squadron of B24 bombers that dropped the Jedburghs was called the Carpetbaggers. The plane that dropped Mike, Phil Donavan and Joe de Francesco was named "Dry Run." Mike's nomme de guerre was Michel Jean Lamy, a young Frenchman who had died and Mike fit the description. Joe was Jean Laveige. They parachuted into Reunyon, a tiny village south of Besascon, France. OSS of WW II
The O.S.S. was formed by Gen. Wild Bill Donavan during W. W. II. The Jedburghs were a very specially trained group of 290 men comprised of 91 Americans and the rest British, and French who had escaped to England. They were trained to jump in teams of three into occupied territory to train the underground French and Dutch underground, to cause as much havoc as possible and to send information of placements and installations back to England.
There have been a few reunions since the governments allowed release of the real names, not the nom de guerre under which all of these people trained and jumped. On May 28th, 2001 at the War Memorial on Mt. Soledad, San Diego, the names of the 90 men of the American Jedburghs, 84 Americans and 6 Frenchmen will be honored on a plaque being presented by the Governments of France and The Netherlands. It will be placed on a wall that has been built for that purpose.
Jedburgh Mike Henely who was the radioman for the Jedburgh team, JIM, which also comprised Captain Phil Donavan, a graduate of West Point and Joe de Francesco, a Frenchman who had escaped from France (code name John Leveige) had been dropped into France behind the enemy lines on May 21, l944, just 3 weeks prior to D-Day in the village of Reuyon in the mountainous area about 16 miles south of Besançon, France in French Compe State.
Some of the men have been able to reunite with the French people who risked their lives at the time to hide them after the parachute drops or to feed them as they ran by night and hid by day. We have found the actual members of the flight crew that dropped my husband and his team. Even more wonderful was finding the woman who had hidden my husband when he parachuted into Reunyon, France south of Besançon in French Compte State. He landed where he was supposed to. The other two members of the team landed elsewhere and it was 3 days before they could all be rejoined. The Head Schoolmaster of that village had kept a very accurate diary so he knew exactly where Mike had been hidden. All of the maquis of that entire State gathered to greet us and tell us their stories at a reception on a rainy Sunday afternoon in 1994, old men, some who had been too old to fight even in the 1940's What a glorious reunion that was.
After reaching Paris upon its liberation, running by night and hiding in caves by day, the team members finally returned to London. Mike was hospitalized in a clinic in London because of shrapnel in his left ankle. Everyone else went on to Washington, D.C. and their subsequent assignments. Most were subsequently sent to the China, India, Burma theater of war. When his ankle was healed, Mike was assigned to Special Duty with Lars Hoegesory for operations in Norway. Lars was fluent in Norwegian.
Mike and Lars were flown to Stockholm, Sweden which was neutral. They were able to feast on Steaks and Ice Cream, the first such items in years. After a very enjoyable stay in Stockholm, the two men went by Electric rail to the Swedish-Norwegian border in the far north where they crossed by darkness into an area near Tronheim, Norway and were met by the men of the Norwegian underground who helped them to safely journey to Oslo and a safe house where Mike set up radio contact with London. Bill Colby, a Jedburgh and years later, the Ambassador to South Vietnam and Director of the C.I.A. was their London director.
The Mission was to protect the prisoners who were in concentration camps near Oslo, most of whom were Russian since the war with Germany was coming to an end. Hitler had ordered all prisoners of war to be killed. Not one died in the camps where Mike and Lars had trained the Norwegian underground to be prepared to protect the prisoners.
Henely is a west of Ireland name, you find them in County Galway and County Mayo, but most of them spell the name Hennelley. Ours may have been spelled so until coming to America. The earliest record of a Henely is in Joyce's book of Irish Pedigrees, a John Henely who had contributed to Cromwell's campaign against the Irish and for that unfortunate deed was given land in Ireland. Thus, originally, it would have been an English name, spelled by them as Henley. Going back still further, the spelling was probably the Saxon "Henle".
Robert T. Meyer , Professor of Celtic Studies, Catholic University of America, Washington, D . C. 20064 states that the name Henely may have come originally from O'hionnghail and there are variant spellings of it as O'Hannyle, O Henyll, Hannell, Hennelly and Henely. It seems to be a variant from O Finnghail or even O Fionngaile, meaning "descendant of Finngail, the "man of fair-valor". Father Woulfe in his "Irish Names and Surnames, pub. Dublin, 1923 does not say what part of Ireland they originally came from.
It is possible that when the Catholics who escaped from England in the 1400's, rather than converting to the Anglican Church, kept their own name and simply varied the spelling in order to differentiate from Henley, the English spelling to Henely, the Irish Spelling.
Father Robert E. Henely, a Catholic Priest of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Holmes Beach , Florida 33509; P. O. Box 1036 writes that he was born in Elgin, Illinois as was Martin Henely, Grandfather of Michael Floyd Henely. His father was Lawrence R. Henely and his grandfather was also Lawrence R. Henely who was born in London, England in 1850. His Father was a Tailor who had gone to London looking for work. It may be that he was from Ireland and may have been related to Michael Henely. He and his family emigrated to the United States rather than allow the British to use him as a medical experiment to save one of the Royal Children. They settled in Vincennes, Indiana in the early 1850's. Vincennes was at that t ime the fork in the road for all the traffic coming west on the Ohio river, leading south t o St. Louis and north to Chicago. From there they planned to move to San Francisco and all the gold. Someone became ill and the family remained in Omaha, Nebraska.
The son, Lawrence R. Henely attended Creighton College before it became a University. He met his wife there and moved to Chicago later. He had no brothers and only 1 sister. They had 10 children however. Robert died at age 6 and is buried in the Catholic Cemetary at Chattsworth, Illinois. John Creighton Henely lived most of his life in New Jersey and had no children. Lawrence had 6 children, Lawrence, Mary, John, Thomas who are all deceased, Robert (the Priest) and Walter J. Henely. John had a son, John and Thomas had a son, Thomas who still lives. Father Robert knows of no others in his family.
John had one son, John J., and Thomas had a son, Thomas. I have now been in contact John J. Henely and his wife, Maria who live at 238 South Street, Elmhurst, Illinois 60126. e-mail henelyjohn@aol.com. They have one daughter, Mary Elizabeth born in Chicago on February 5, 1973. John J. Henely was born in 1944 to John Edwin Henely and Bernice Dockery. His father, John Edwin Henely was born in Kankakee, Ill. in 1910 to Lawrence Henely and Catherine Newell of County Mayo , Ireland.

"Stone Sloops of Chebeague" (1949), chart pp. 122 & 126. Page 123 tells:
"He built the house where his daughter Nellie Hill Hamilton now lives. He built
the sloop Annie May and named it after his daughter. Later when he was
captain of the Island Belle and after he had lost his first wife, he took his
daughters Nellie and Bessie slooping with him during their summer vacation.
His son Freeland crewed." Page 75 identifies him as captain of the stone
sloop (schooner rigged at times) "Express", which hailed from Casco Bay till
1889.
He is enumerated in the household of David Hill & Phebe in the 1860 census
as "David N. Henly". In 1841, the year of David N.'s birth, David Sr.'s first
wife, Ann, died and David remarried Ann's sister, Phebe, widow of John
Henly. It would appear that David N. was the son of John Henly & Phebe and
stepson of David Hill. Perhaps David Sr. adopted him and David N. assumed
the Hill surname.
He is enumerated in the 1870 census as a mariner with personal estate
valued at $1200 in the household of his father-in-law.

"Stone Sloops of Chebeague" (1949), chart pp. 120 & 124. There is a note that "they came to Maine in an oxcart in 1794." See note on his wife that she moved to Norway, Maine in 1791. No evidence to the contrary, I am assuming that she went there with John. It would appear that possibly John & Sally moved to Norway, leaving their grown children in the Casco Bay area. I realize this is but an educated guess and would greatly appreciate any clarifying information.

General Notes: Husband - Claude Pitre
Claude was born about February 1671, appearing in the 1671 census as a 9-month-old, the youngest of Jean and Marie's three children at that census. Acadia at that time was a community of about 400 people.
Over the next 20 years a relative stability existed within the colony, as they farmed, fished and traded. As relations were becoming more heated with the British, Claude married, probably at Port Royal c1696, to Marie Anne Comeau who was about eighteen. She was the oldest daughter of early Acadians Pierre Comeau, known as l'Esturgeon, and Jeanne Bourg. Having eight children over the next eleven years must have taken its toll as Marie Anne died at the age of twenty-nine only a month after their twins were born.
Claude now had at least six children to care for as well as earn a living. Maybe this was an unappealing proposition for young women in the area, because it was two and a half years before he remarried. (It’s possible that his youngest sister Jeanne, who is probably the "daughter over 12" appearing with their widowed mother in the 1707 census, took over the domestic duties for his family. Their stepfather had died 9 months prior, and their mother died 5 months after Marie Anne’s death so she could have easily stepped into the role. What became of her is unknown.) Twenty-two-year-old Anne Henry became Claude’s second wife during the winter of 1710. Anne was the middle child of Robert Henry, a Frenchman, and Marie Madeleine Godin, a Quebecois.
Eight months later Port Royal, having been given no assistance by the French, surrendered to the English forces. The inhabitants of Port Royal and those people living within three miles were granted permission to stay for two years by taking the oath of allegiance. The rest of Acadia came under English control in 1713. Most wanted to leave but it was almost impossible to do so.
The 1714 census still finds Claude, Anne, and their eight children in Port Royal. The 1717 burial registers record the death of Claude's two-week-old son Rene and six months later his 15-year-old son Jean. Five of Claude's children from his first marriage marry in Port Royal during the 1720's, so presumably Claude was still there. By the late-1720's Claude was in his mid-fifties. (The conditional oath had made the Acadians French neutrals so their lives were relatively peaceful until 1744.)
Claude and Anne were still in Port Royal in 1726, but daughter Marie Josephe married in Chipoudy in 1734. Possibly Claude died during this time and the remaining family moved away from Port Royal. I have no record of his death but his widow is listed in the 1752 and the 1754/55 censuses at Chipoudy. (Three of their sons, Pierre, Joseph and Charles, were prisoners at Halifax in 1763.) Of Claude's children from his first marriage, one died on Ile St. Jean, two in France and one in Louisiana; from the second marriage, one died in France, and three others in exile in Quebec, as did his widow Anne, in hospital, in 1757.
