In 1785 he bought the leasehold of the farm he was living on in Ossining (probably his grandfather Jacob Van Tassel's leasehold) from the Commission of Forfeitures. In 1786 he sold this property and moved to New York.

General Notes: Husband - Thomas Hampton
Thomas Hampton was Sergeant in 2nd Virginia Regiment. Enlisted March 25, 1777 for a term of three years under Robert Norfolk, Recruiting Officer. Having duly served his time for which he was enlisted, he was discharged from the service on April 10, 1780. James Quarles, Major, signed his discharge papers.
The Virginia Court of Claims, after the Revolution, paid him ten shillings per day for 19 days for the use of his team wagon and negro driver.
Thomas Hampton and wife Sarah Pattison Conyers buried in Hampton Family Cemetery in Cascade, Virginia about one mile from Rockingham County line.

March 6, 1779 from John Rice and Mary, his wife, of Pittsylvania, to Thomas Hampton of Pittsylvania, for 500 Pounds, two tracts of land, one tract containing 365 acres on the waters of Cascade Creek, and bounded by Chessel, the south fork of said creek, Russell's corner red oak of his former survey. The other tract contains about 125 acres adjoining the other tract, formerly belonging to Peter Perkins, bounded by the Cascade Creek, which land was taken out of a survey formerly granted to Peter Perkins, containing 1200 acres and sold by said Peter Perkins to Joseph Scale. In the name of God Amen I Thomas Hampton of Pittsylvania County, and State of
Virginia, being through the Tender Mercy of God well in health, and of Sound and
Perfect understanding and Memory, do constitute this my Last will and Testement, and desire it may be received by all as such. First I most Humbly Bequeath my Soul to God my Maker and my Body to the earth, from whence I was taken, in full assurance of its Resurection from thence at the Last day, as for my Buriel I desire it may be decent, at the discretion of my Dear Wife and my Executors here after named as to my Worldly estate, I will and Positively Order that all my Debts be paid, First I give to my Dear and Loving Wife, for the term of her life one third of the Tract of Land whereon I now live, with the houses and Orchards and Furtutures etc. and every other appurtenances there unto belonging with all the Cattle, Hourses, hoggs, Sheep and all the Negroes, on Condition she doth not contract marriage nor take to any .... bad Course of Life, and after her decease to be distributed in the in the following manner. Item I give unto my Son Henry Hampton a certain tract of Land Lying and being in North Carolina in Surry County on Blues, whereon he now lives Containing, Six hundred and forty six Acres, to him and his heirs forever. -- Item I give to my Son James Hampton, a Negro Boy named Bob, also half of the tract of Land, whereon I now Live, to be divided Between him and my Son, John Hampton, Containing by Patron one hundred and ninty five acres. Also to my Son James I give my riding horse, and one young Roan mare and one Musket Gun and one fifth part of
all kind of stocks, to them and their heirs forever. Item I give unto my Son Preston Hampton two hundred acres of Land, whereon he now lives to him and any heir or heirs he shall choose or appoint, Except his wife Elizabeth Hampton, Also one Rifle Gun and one fifth part of all Stocks to him and his heirs forever, Except his wife. Item I give unto my Son John Hampton one Negro Man Named Dick, and my Still, one feather Bed and furniture, one Roan Horse, and all the household Lumber, (and one Negro Woman Sue to be equally divided between him and his brother James) and one fifth Part of all stocks to Johnny to them and their heirs forever, Also one more feather Bed and furniture to Johnny

Colquet, one hundred acres of Land where on they now live also one Negro Woman Named Hanna to my Daughter Margaret during her Natural Life and in Case this Said Negro Woman should Breed and have Children , the first is to remain with the wench to Margaret till her Death, the Second living Child at two years old to go to Nancy ‘s eldest Son Thomas H. Young to him and heirs for the want of such, the next eldest Brother for the want of such. To be divided among the Sisters to them and their heirs forever. Then the third Living Child at two years old to go to James Hampton’s Second Son John Hampton, to him and his heirs, for want of such to be divided asmong his Brothers and Sisters, to them and their heirs forever. The fourth Living Child at two years old to Henry Hampton’s eldest son Thomas Hampton, to him and his heirs for the want of such to the next Eldest Brother, for want of such, to the third Daughter Hannah Hampton, to them and their heirs forever, and at Margarets Death the said Negro Wench Hannah and Increase not given or will by me elsewhere to her Sister Nancy Young and after her Death to be divided among the Sons, then Living of hers forever to them and their heirs for ever. At a Court held for Pittsylvania County the 16 th day of January 1797 The within last will of Testement of Thomas Hampton, Deceased was Exhibited into Court and Proved by the oath of one of the witnesses thereto, which was Ordered to be Certified , and Afterwards to Wit at a Court held for the Said County the 20 th Day of February in the year aforesaid the said Will was further proved and Ordered to be Recorded, and on the Motion of Sarah Hampton the Executive, Preston Hampton and John Hampton the Executors therein named who made oath according to Law, Certificate is granted then for obtaining a Probate of the Said Will in due form of Law , on Giving Security, Whereupon they together with George Hankins, William M. Nanex, and Samuel Mc Gufford their Securities, entered into Bond, and Aknowledged the Same According to Law.
