Lillian C. Howard
FARMINGTON - Lillian C. Howard, 84, of Deer Crossing Apartments, Anson
Street, Farmington, died early Monday morning, Oct. 13, at her home.
She was born Sept. 6, 1919, in Readfield, a daughter of Frank J. and
Vivian (Chesley) Wyman. Shereceived her education in local schools and
on Sept. 12, 1937, married Ivan L. Howard in Farmington.
In addition to being a dedicated homemaker, Mrs. Howard was also
employed in the cafeteria at the Farmington State Teachers’ College. She
later worked for 20 years in the SAD 9 Cafeteria.
She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and Seniors Plus. She was a
talented cook, enjoyed travelling around to yard sales and loved playing
Bingo with her friends.
She issurvived by three sons, Ivan Howard Jr. and his wife, Jean of
Farmington, Dennis Howard and his wife, Linda of Belfast and Blaine
Howard and his wife, Roberta of Farmington; one daughter, Shelba Jean
Daggs-Fraser of Lady Lake, Fla.; two sisters, Barbara Turner of
Farmington and Carolynn Wyman of Illiniois;three brothers, Leon Wyman of
Farmington and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Ralph Wyman of Florida, and Clyde
Wyman of New Mexico; a daughter-in-law, Rachel Howard of Farmington; 10
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband on April 25, 1997; two sons, Larry
Howard and Douglas Howard Sr.; two sisters, Erma Wyman and Helen Knight;
three brothers, Frank, Raymond and George Wyman; and one grandson, Troy
A. Howard.

General Notes: Husband - Daniel Cole
From 'Library of Cape Cod History and Genealogy' No. 32 (FHL1004003): 'Daniel Cole was born in England in 1615 and found his way to Plymouth when a young man. He was a tailor by trade (this phrase had been lined through in ink but a note in 'Anc. and Desc. of Wm. Rappleye Cole' says 'Origin and History of the Name of Cole, 1906, says he was a tailor of Yarmouth, and had accounts with Mr. Pollington of London, in 1646, and removed to Eastham) and as early as 1640 had a large lot of land granted him in Duxbury, near William Bassett's and Edmund Hawes's land. He was at Marshfield as early as Jun 1642 and his name appears upon the list of those able to bear arms in Yarmouth in 1643, but he seems not to have been a resident. He was admitted a freeman 4 Jun 1645 and one of the Grand Inquest that year. In 1649, he was a resident of Eastham and an accepted townsman, and sold his land in Duxbury to Mr. Edmund Weston. In 1650, he sold to the same gentleman his land at Marshfield. He soon became prominent in municipal affairs at Eastham, and, in 1653, was one of the Grand Inquest. In 1654, he was sent a deputy or representative to the Colonial court at Plymouth, and represented Eastham in 1666 to 1670, and in 1672. He was a selectman in 1668, 71, 72 and 74. In 1667, he was allowed to look out land for his accommodation, and in 1668, with Thomas Hinckley, Nathaniel Bacon, Constant Southworth, John Alden, John Chipman, and Lieut. Morton, was appointed by the Old Colony court to purchase for Gov. Prence the place at Plain Dealing in Plymouth, which had been selected for the residence of the governor. Mr. Cole, with Mr. Thomas Prence and Mr. John Freeman, was appointed by the town to use his 'best endeavors to put forward or encourage the Indians' or the 'English to kill the wolves,' which at this time, and for more than thirty years afterwards, were numerous and troublesome within the precinct. As late as 1690, the Indians were encouraged to hunt and capture them. Manassan, an Indian, carried in to the clerk of the town, in the spring of that year, four young wolves which he affirmed he caught in the vicinity of 'Cliff Pond.' In 1661, he had liberty granted him 'to draw and sell strong water and wine at Eastham, provided that he always be furnished with good wine for the supply of those that are in need amongst them.' Whether he followed the instructions and allowed the wine to be sold without being adulterated, we have no knowledge. It is presumed that the art of adulteration at that period was known, and that liquor selling was a lucrative business, as all kinds of liquors were in common use. The early settlers were very careful in allowing the sale, and none were appointed to draw strong water but men of character. Illegal traffic in liquors was not allowed, and all violaters, of whatever standing in society, were dealt with according to law when caught. But with all their strictness and watchfulness, there were violaters that escaped punishment, as now, and intemperance not much prevented. Mr. Cole died at Eastham 20 Nov 1694, aged 79 years. His wife Ruth died 16 Dec following. They had twelve children.'

This was the date of the inventory of his estate. If the age is right, it would make him born 1614. 'The Ancestors and Descendants of William Rappleye Cole', quotes Eastham records: 'Daniel Cole Dyed ye one and twentyeth day of Decr in the yeare 1694 in ye Eightyeith yr of his age.' This account had only nine children, no Hester nor Thomas, who were included in the FGRA sheet. All eleven children were named in the settlement of his estate found in Barnstable County probate records. An article in 'The American Genealogist', vol 42 pg 119 quotes a will of Zaccheus Cole of St. Olave, Southwark, Surrey, Eng., which named his mother Frances, his brothers Nathaniel, John, Daniel, and Job (PCC 106 Scrope, no. 1246). It also quotes a 1637 New England will of John Cole which refers to brothers Job and Daniel Cole, sister, Rebecca, and to Eliza Collyer. It also says that Job Cole married Rebecca Collier. The FGRA sheet had LDS proxy baptism 9 May 1933, proxy endowment 6 Feb 1934. They are in the IGI, from temple records. The 1890 baptism is also in the IGI, no birthdate nor parents, but of Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts, Relative: Thomas Jefferson Patten JR. It is from a temple film. LDS proxy ordinances for the Danyell Coles in the British IGI were 24 May, 28 June and 2 Oct 1973 all ARIZO.
Eastham Vital Records says he died 21 Dec 1694 in his 80th year. Record of settlement of his estate named only eleven children. An abstract of the records of the division of his estate, taken from Barnstable County Records, was published in 'Mayflower Descendant', vol. 23 pg 67: [p. 105] ''An Invintory of ye Estate of Daniel Cole of Eastham deceased' was taken 24 Dec 1694, by Samuel Freeman, Jr. and Samuel Paine. No real estate was mentioned [p. 106]. 'it is ye desier of ue Children of ye now deceased Daniel Cole that their Brother Israel Cole may be Administrator' On 3 Jan 1694/5, 'Israel Cole Son of Daniel Cole Late of Eastham . . . . deceased Intestate' was appointed administrator. On 15 Jan 1694/5, Israel Cole made oath to the inventory [p. 107]. Roger de Quency Earl of Winchester granted and confirmed to Nicholas de Barenton and to Agnes his wife, and to his heirs by her, all the land they held of this fee in the town of Cington in Wiltonshire; to be held freely from all other secular services and demands, with warranty against all men for ever: for which grant the said Nicholas gave one hundred shillings. This confirmation was dated London, Thursday next before the Feast of St. Peter in Cathedra, in the 43rd year of King Henry son of King John.
General Notes: Child - Nicholas Barrington De Barentone
Sir Nicholas de Barenton, came into possession of his estates. He was knighted by king Edward the first, and married the daughter and co-heiress of Sir John Belhouse. She had on her marriage a rent of Ð10 per annum given to her by her father, charged on an estate called Westhall. In an agreement between Sir Nicholas and the Lady Joan de Barenton his grandmother, she released to him lands that had been settled upon her in Triplow, Hatfield, Writtle, Chigwell, Ramsden, Ballinhatch, Springfield, Stanstead, and Ongar, on receiving from him an annuity of fourteen marks for her life. Nicholas was steward to Robert de Brus, Lord of Annandale, and had from him a quit-claim of an annual rent of twenty-one shillings, payable out of lands held under him at Hatfield, reserving only sixpence to be paid each year at Michaelmas, the keeping in order thirteen perches of the fence round the park, and the payment of any tax the King might impose.
