I exchange data with people who have a interlocking marriage
into any surnames that interlocks into any of the branches
of my families.I started when I was 10 years old now 68years.
I am sharing my data in the interest of collaborative research.
I do this to help people to find there lineages and to fill
the pedigree charts.
I have not personally researched all families listed; dates
and information are subject to verification. Not responsible
for typographical errors misplaced citations. Missing
sources/references are because of my learning curve, not my
intention. You are encouraged to seek further documention
for your own confirmation.Further I have no control what
other people include about their families in any of the
data that they exchange.
If there are no dates about the living, then the computers
can not determine if the person is alive or deceased.
The sites set the living anywhere from 75 to 100 years
depending on the laws of the countries that they are in.
When I exchange with lineages the living are sometime shown
depending on who you are exchanging with, but my
request is that,if you update any of my data to the
internet, you also set the do not show the living, before
you update to the internet.
Also place in the source your contact email
address, and the lineage, so people can contact you
reqarding your update.
I have no claim to owning the data, except that which is
my immediate lineage, and even that is worked on by many
members of my family lineages. It is only as good as what
people put into it,that exchange with me. So look
in the notes of the genealogy for origin, if they put it
there,or the source.
If you are going to correct, update or put new branches on the
lineage your are inquirying about, please do not add from what
I have sent you,(This just duplicates how many more people
I have to find in the duplicates and merge them, edit your
notes to ensure that there is nothing there that you do not
want published.
Also do not submit information on copyrights that invades the
privacy of others especially for a relative that has not given
you permission to publish same.
Remember nothing is carved in stone except time.
The best way for me to describe the relationship, is for
example if you have 6,000 people in your data base
that are connected via interlocking marriages, and
you find that you have a marriage that is interlocked into
one of my people in my data base, then they are related
via interlocking marriages, does not matter how distant.
The difference here is that the interlocking into my data
base would link to over 631,749 people via interlocking
marriages.
My hobby is working on interlocking marriages,to any
family surname that is in my data, and I exchange with
people to find them, and to assist them in finding lineage
that link into their families.

into any surnames that interlocks into any of the branches
of my families.I started when I was 10 years old now 68years.

[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 16, Ed. 1, Tree #1370, Date of Import: Jul 25, 1998]
Taken from "Genealogy of Captain John Locke of New Hampshire"
by Arthur H. Locke, A.M.
"Captain John Locke was probably baptized in London, England, Sept. 16, 1627, married about 1652, Elizabeth, daughter of William and Jane Berry, and was killed by the Indians Aug. 26, 1696, in Rye, NH. Elizabeth the widow was living in 1708 when the estate was settled and the children given below shared in its distribution. Several old papers prepared by descendents born about 1735, give the entire family, and in the following order. As first names only were given it is impossible to determine whether the girls were married, or to whom married at that time (1708) but we know nearly all were."
Taken from "History of Rye, N.H. 1623-1903"
L.B. Parsons
" John Locke, came from Yorkshire, England, about 1644, and settled first at
Dover, N.H., where he had a right of land. He moved to what is known as Fort Point, in Newcastle, and about 1652 he married Elizabeth Berry, daughter of John Berry, who was probably the first settler at a place called Sandy Beach, now Rye. A few years later, Mr. Locke moved to Sagamore Creek, and from there to a neck of land in Rye called Joscelyn's Neck, Locke's Neck until 1876, and now called Straw's Point. John Locke was killed by Indians, August 26, 1696, while he was reaping grain in his field, but two sons who were with him hid and escaped. It is said Captain Locke, after being shot, struck one of the Indians with his sickle and partly cut off his nose. He was by trade a house carpenter."

Tradition says that John Locke came from Yorkshire, England in 1644, (some accounts say 1638), and "first settled at Dover in New Hampshire where he owned a right of land; that from thence he moved to what is known as Fort Point, in New Castle, and about 1652 married Elizabeth, the daughter of William Berry (who was probably the first settler of Hampton) at a place called Sandy Beach, now Rye.
From New Castle, Mr. Locke moved to Sagamore Creek, where he resided till 1655, when he went to Hampton. After a thorough search of the ancient records at Dover, Portsmouth and Hampton, I have come to the conclusion that so far dates at least are concerned, that full reliance cannot be placed upon the above tradition. There is no record evidence that Mr. Locke ever resided at or had a "right of land" at Dover; his name is not found among the early settlers. The first notice I find of him is in the Portsmouth records, viz:_
"And likewise John Locke is to have a house lott (lot) between John Jackson's and William Cotten's rails, the lott eight acres. At the town meeting held the first day of Januarie (January), 1656."
At a town meeting Jany. 22, 1660, "John Locke having eight acres to have eight more;" and the same year there was laid out to him eight acres from Stoney Brook towards John Jones, 24 pole wide and 40 pole back into the woods, South West line. This was prob. the eight acres granted Jan 22, 1660. John Locke, of Portsmouth, Carpenter, and wife Elizabeth, sold James Drew a new dwelling-house and eight acres to William (Collins?) "dividend land in Portsmouth." The latter sale was undoubtedly after he located himself on what was a "disputed territory", being claimed on the one side by Portsmouth of New Castle, and on the other side by Hampton. The little knowledge I have of the locations at Rye and Hampton, does not enable me to speak very decidedly about the lands first granted him; but Thomas J. Parsons, Esq. of Rye, to whom I am greatly indebted for the statistics of the family and decendents of John Locke says that he has no doubt but what the second grant of "8 acres," was in the vicinity of Locke's Neck. My want of knowledge forbids of my going further into the details. I am pretty well satisfied he did not move to Josscelyn's Neck until about 1665 or 66.
At a town meeting in Portsmouth, Mh. 8, 1665-6, he subscribed 5s for Mr. Moody (the minister,) and the same year Capt. Locke was fined 5, whether shillings or pounds, as for what was not stated, - "Oct. 26, 1671, a noate drawne on Hen. Dering, Constable, to pay John Locke 12s." Being a carpenter, he would be likely to be called upon to do work out of the town where he then resided, (Hampton).
The present age is noted for claiming for individuals the paternity of various measures and inventions, and perhaps it would be well to claim for Capt. Locke the credit of being the first "squatter." It appears by the town of Hampton, that he "sat down on the common lands at Josselyn's Neck," and began clearing a farm without saying "by your leave," and as the inhabitants claimed a right of saying who should be citizens of the town, they were rather indignant at his independence, and May 24, 1666(1666-7?) they chose a committee to pull up his fence; and Mh.12, 1667, "to warn him to desist from improving the town's land, and to notify him that the town is displeased with his building there." Complaint was made against him as a trespasser," and he was warned to appear at the meeting and give an account of himself. On the 8(28) of March, 1667 (1667-8?) the town voted as follows, viz, "Upon the motion of John Locke, who desireta to yield himself to the town of Hampton as an inhabitant here amongst us, being already settled upon Josselyn's Neck in Hampton bounds, the towne hath accepted of ye said John Locke for an inhabitant accordingly," and thus the "squatter" became transformed into an "inhabitant," and here he continued to reside the rest of his days. "John Locke, Senr. was killed by the Heathen in his lot at work upon, Aug 26, 1696,"
[Hampton Town Rec.] I extract from the Rev. Huntington Porter's discourse. delivered at Rye, Jan. 1,1801, the following: In the year 1694, [it should be 1696] a person by the name of John Locke being at the Neck, was ambushed and killed by them (i.e. the Indians) as he reaped the grain in his field; against whom it seems they had some time before, formed a particular grudge, on account of his having been very active against them and instrumental in defeating them in several of attempts to destroy the inhabitants on the sea-coast; and who, at this time, came eight in number, with an express design, (as appeared afterwards,) to avenge themselves in his death; and having accomplished their bloody purpose, returned again without any other material damage."
Another account says that a boy was with him, who secreted himself under some bundles of grain and escaped, and that Capt. Locke, after being shot, struck one of the Indians with his sickle, and partly cut off his nose.
"Josselyn's Neck" since that time has been known by the name of "Lockes Neck." He is supposed to have been 70 years old at the time of his death, although one account says 78 -- the first is probably the most correct.

The Richardson Memorial, 1876, by John Adams Vinton, page 515:
JONATHAN RICHARDSON, fourth son of Thomas and Mary (Stimpson)
Richardson; born in Billerica, Feb. 14, 1682-3; married, 1718, HANNAH
FRENCH, dau. of John French of Billerica.
He passed his life in Billerica. As already mentioned, he went to
Dunstable and Groton, as a soldier, in July 1706. His father, during his
life, gave him property to the amount of fifty pounds. He is mentioned
in his father's will, dated April 10, 1719, as then living. "He died
suddenly, Aug. 13,1720," says the town record. In the agreement of the
father's heirs, made Feb. 25, 1721, he is spoken of as deceased, and in
the settlement of the estate the minor children of Jonathan are
represented by William French, jr., who must have been their mother's
brother, son of John, and grandson of William French, born in England,
1604, one of the founders of the town of Billerica.
He left no will. Administration of his estate was granted to the
widow, Jan. 9, 1720-1. Samuel Dunton, of Reading, born 1688, was the
surety of the bond given by the administratrix. The widow Hannah became
the wife of Benjamin Frost previous to 1738.
The children of Jonathan and Hannah Richardson were:
5186. Hannah, b. April 2, 1714; m. John Abbott, of Billerica, Dec. 30,
1735.
5187. Jonathan, b. Feb. 7, 1715-16; m. Abigail Farmer.
5188. Thomas, b. June 5, 1718; m. Abigail Merrow.
5189. Abiel, b. Nov. 12, 1720; m. Sarah Smith,of Lexington.

AGE AT DEATH: 46-2. Simon's tombstone (Porter, Maine) says " died in
Penn." Is he really buried in Porter? Dwight Mason says the Masons
walked down to Pa. from Saco, Maine. (#15) He also said that he "died
along the road." Could be buried in an unmarked grave along the road
between Lily and Cresson Pa.

Edget article: John French was "called yeoman and planter in deeds, removed to Norwich, CT, about 1718. The first mention of "John french iunr" on the Topsfield town records is found Mar. 3, 1695/6 and from that date to 1709 he was chosen surveyor of highways twice, fence viewer twice, juryman, sonctable, and tythingman, oce each. He received the homestead from his father by deed in 1701s and sold it for 400 pounds, June 16, 1718, to Joseph Andren of Boxford, the deed conveying about forty-seven acres...
He was admitted an inhabitant of the town of Norwich in 1724 and died there April 20, 1730, leaving sons Abner, John, Joseph, and Samuel.

Arundel (Kennebunkport), Maine, pp. 8 and 25-26. Originally of
Ipswich, later of Rowley Village which became Boxford where he was
living at the time of the marriages of daughter Amy Smith.
Apparently came to New England as an apprentice to Mr. Whittingham in
1638.

Circa 1623. Born Topsfield (Toppesfield, Essex?), England.
1638. Immigrated, probably as an apprentice to a Mr. Whittingham.
Resided first in Boston, then in Ipswich, then to Rowley where he
purchased 280 acres of land partly in Topsfield and in Boxford. He
was a tailor.
1661. Resident of that part of Rowley which became Boxford.
1673. One of six petitioners to the General Court, asking that
efforts to remove them from Topsfield and them to the jurisdiction of
Rowley be prevented.
1678. Oath of allegiance.
1680. Given as head of family in Rowley.
1693. Died intestate, with son Samuel named as administrator.
Estate valued at 189 pounds.

BIRTH: The suggest birthdate of Mary French as being 2 Mar 1633 is questionable, due to the fact that the previous child of Thomas French and Mary Scudamore also named Mary and her stated birthdate being 2 Sep 1632. That is only 6 months apart. What makes this more difficult to determine is the fact that the Puritans of this time period used the Julian Calendar and did not use month names to identify the month (ie, May or June). To complicate things even more the new year did not begin until around March, so the 1st month of 1632 was not Jan 1632 but rather March 1632. So if the 1st Mary French was born in the 8th month (September) then she really was born in around November 1632. So PLEASE do not accept these dates as being factual unless you refer to the original documents and recalculate from the Julian calendar to the Georgian calendar. No date can be completely trustworth before 1752 when the Georgian calendare was made the universal standard, unless both Julian and Georgain dates are listed.
DEATH: According to Claire Dietz database, Mary French, died 22 Mar 1683/84 in Topsfield, Essex Co., MA. Again, further research is needed to resolve the conflicting data. (MHJ - 8/26/02)

Served as tythingman in 1727; fenceviewer 1730; and constable 1733.
Confused with another Samuel Smith, son of William Smith, who lived
over the Ipswich border but attended church in Topsfield.

GenServe file CRAA6HB, 30 July 1998. Sarah Curtis, 1675/6 -after
1718, married Samuel Smith 12 May 1696. This appear to be confusions
(see above) with the second Samuel Smith.

marriages to Sarah Curtis, Rebecca Curtis, and Phebe Howe.
