birth place is probably Morfield, Harrison Co., Ohio according to the following e-mail
Hello, I am Bill Rendahl of Torrance, CA, and I found your family tree on Ancestry.com. I have some information you may be interested in. At one point in your file you show Banks Booker and Sarah Dudger, whose daughter was Anice Booker who married Norman Dewing. Banks and Sarah Booker were my great-great-grandparents. I know little about them, but I am descended through Susan Booker, Anice's sister, who married Samuel McCormick, Sr.
Below are two articles you may find interesting:
First, Susan Booker McCormick's obituary, which gives many interesting facts about her. Anice is mentioned, but as a Mrs Dewey, not Dewing.
Second, text excerpted from a post-1977 letter by Mae Hasselman McCormick, who was Samuel and Susan McCormick's daughter-in-law, mentioning the pioneering Booker family. Note that Anice would not have been born in Mendota, IL as your records show, but more likely Morfield, Harrison Co., Ohio.
From an LDS listing, I show Banks Booker was born about 1820, and resided in or near Mendota, La Salle Co., IL. Sarah Dudger was born about 1825 and died 1890 at 65 years old. That's about all I know about them; I would be interested if you knew more.
One more thing -- attached is a jpeg photo supposedly of Susan Booker.
-------------- BELOW IS FULL TEXT OF NEWSPAPER ARTICLE: -------------- OCR¹d from the original article (no date, city or publication name was on clipping) (About Aug 1, 1917, Mendota IL)
Mrs. McCormick Died Monday Mrs. Samuel McCormick passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bert Chandler, southeast of this city, on Monday afternoon, July 30th [1917], after an illness which extended over a period of several years. She was aged 64 years, 5 months and 16 days.
Her maiden name was Susan Booker, and she was born in Morfield, Harrison County, Ohio, February 14th, 1853. While a young girl she moved with her family to this city, where she spent her girlhood days. On February 26th, 1873, she was united in marriage to Mr. Samue1 McCormick. They took up their labors on the farm north of this city, where they reared their family and watched them leave home to establish homes of their own. There were horn, nine children, seven boys and two girls. Three children preceded her in death and will welcome the mother in that land across the river. They are Atty. James F. McCormick, formerly city attorney of Mendota, John McCormick and one child who passed away in infancy. Those who are left to mourn their loss and to cherish the memory of a good, kind and devoted mother, are Chas. A., of Center, N. D.; Jesse V., of New Salem, N. D.; Samuel H., of Earlville, Mrs. Edna Babcock, of Galva, Iowa, and Mrs. Nettie Chandler, of Troy Grove Tp. The heart-broken husband also survives to mourn his great loss. There are also three sisters who survive, Mrs. Mary A. Hart, of Cunningham, Kansas, Mrs. Maggie Beschers, of Chandler, Okla., and Anice Dewey, of Wichita, Kansas. Mrs. McCormick has been a great sufferer for a number of years and her condition at times grew serious and gave the family much concern. Only a few weeks ago the children were called home to visit their mother and it was a sad farewell when they realized that it would be possibly for the last time. Everything possible was done for the deceased and she was given the best of care. She was greatly beloved by her neighbors who knew her true worth and for this reason there was sincere sorrow in the community when the news of the death was learned. The funeral services were held at the Church of God at No. 6, north of Troy Grove, on Wednesday afternoon at 2: 30, conducted by Rev. Bernard, the pastor. There were many in attendance who desired to pay their last sad respects to the departed. The interment was at Restland cemetery. ---------------- And from Mae Hasselman McCormick: "Samuel settled in Mendota, Ill. and on Feb. 26, he married Susan Booker who was born Feb. l4, 1853 in Morfield Ohio. She came across this country in a covered wagon from Ohio to Mendota with her parents and three sisters, who later were Mary Hart of Cunningham Kansas; Maggie Beacher of Chandler Oklahoma; Anice Dewey of Witchita, Kansas. They had to stop for wild buffalo herds to pass and ran into prairie fires." -----------------
I copied and entered into my records 3 or 4 generations down from the Bookers, with you as my source. I presumed you wouldn't mind. Not yet, but one of these days, you may find your own work staring back at you in a file like yours on the internet. :-)
Thank you for posting your information. That is very interesting to me.

THE FITZGERALD FAMILY
(from Booklet compiled ca. 1972)
A long time ago, many of the people from Scotland migrated to the north of Ireland, making their homes there and became known as Scotch-Irish. They were mainly Protestant people and in later times had many bitter conflicts with the Catholics of the region farther south.
We believe that the ancestors of our family were among these Scotch-Irish people. We find names in Northern Ireland quite like those of Scotland and Sir Walter Scott, in his tales of the Scottish Highlanders, has names beginning with Fitz.
A map showing the location in Ireland of the prominent families shows Fitzgerald families to be located in three places in the island. The one which we think was our location was in the eastern part, in the County of Kildare, where there was a Fitzgerald who was Duke of Leinster (see encyclopedia).
The young man in whom we are especially interested came to New York Harbor on a naval ship. A bad wind storm came up and wrecked the ship when it was his turn to watch at night. He threw a plank overboard and then jumped over and, with the aid of his plank, reached shore. We have been told that at one time he owned a very valuable part of what is now New York City.
An old lady who was Scotch, and her husband was an Irishman, told me that the Irish who had names beginning with “O” or “Mc” or “Fitz” were considered as belonging to the Aristocracy. An old Irishman who once worked for my father said, “The Fitzgeralds in Ireland were a stuck-up set - - bad luck to them.”
The three families noted on the M. N. Fitzgerald map were all of the nobility. One of the others was the Earl of Desmond and the other Knight of Glyn. So it behooves the descendants to keep the record good. I understand there was a Methodist Bishop by the name of Fitzgerald who was related to our family but have not been able to obtain any particular information.
Most of the Fitzgerald Family care for intellectual and spiritual things and are not satisfied to just eat and drink and dress and have no thought above the beasts. Most of them seem to be fine-grained people and not given to saying or doing coarse, rude things. One account of them says they were noted for their fine-looking women.
Elizabeth Bookstover and Robert Fitzgerald are the farthest back that any of us living today can remember. They, at one time, lived near Nichols on the Susquehanna River Flats. Their children were four sons: Adam, James, Frederick, Jacob, and a daughter, Julia. Jacob died a bachelor and he and Frederick, Frederick’s wife, Anna, and the father, Robert, are buried in the cemetery at Horseheads. Julia married Anson Weller. They lived across the Chemung River from Athens. Their children were Theodore, Nathanial, Frank, and one daughter who married a Wheaton.
