DOVER, N.H. – Nadine "Nin" Adams Civiello, 82, died peacefully March 18, 2013, at Watson Fields, Dover, N.H. She was born Dec. 5, 1930, in East Millinocket, daughter of William M. Adams and Fannie E. (Powers) Adams.
Nadine and her late husband, Michael A. Civiello, were married June 4, 1960. They were married for 37 years and lived and raised their family in Millinocket. After his passing, Nadine resided in both in Bangor and Dover, N.H. Nadine graduated valedictorian and class president of the class of 1948 at Schenck High School, East Millinocket. Nadine loved to cook and anyone who visited her home was promptly offered food and Italian cookies. She enjoyed getting together with her sisters and other family members to play cards, share food, and tell stories. For most of her life, she was an avid reader and she loved doing crossword puzzles, which kept her mind sharp. She also loved to knit and crochet and many people throughout the years were treated to her socks, baby blankets and afghans. She even enjoyed getting on the computer to check the news, send an email, or play a game of Mahjong. For the last 11 years, she enjoyed spending time with and caring for her loyal shih tzu, Netty. Nadine was known for her quiet, but quick wit and she especially enjoyed interacting with both the staff and other residents at Watson Fields.
She was the youngest of seven children and was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, Malcolm S. Adams, Francis W. Adams, Wallace L. Adams and James R. Adams; and two sisters, June E. Raymond and Eleanor M. Coffin. Nadine is survived by her son, Patrick Civiello and wife, Jennifer, and their two daughters, Camilla and Abby, of North Yarmouth; and son, James Civiello and wife, Barbara, of Dover, N.H. Nadine is also survived by three children from her late husband's first marriage, whom she considered her own, Kenneth Civiello and wife, Virginia, of Sacramento, Calif., Kathleen Moscone and husband, Kenneth, of Port Matilda, Pa., and Michael Civiello and wife, Suellen, of Augusta. Nadine is survived by a total of 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Nadine is also survived by many nieces and nephews and she was especially close with two, Nancy Raymond of Bangor and Nola (Coffin) Foote of Rochester, N.H. The family sends a special thank you to the entire staff and residents at Watson Fields for making the last three years of Nadine's life comfortable and enjoyable. She loved the people who not only cared for her, but also took the time to get to know her.

Adils was the name of King Ottar's son and successor.He was a long time k
ing, became very rich, and went also for several summerson viking expedit
ions. On one of these he came to Saxland with his troops. There a king w
as reigning called Geirthjof, and his wife was called Alof the Great; b
ut nothing is told of their children. The king was not at home, and Adi
ls and his men ran up to the king's house and plundered it, while others d
rove a herd of cattle down to the strand. The herd was attended by slave-p
eople, churls, and girls, and they took all of them together. Among them w
as a remarkably beautiful girl called Yrsa. Adils returned home with th
is plunder. Yrsa was not one of the slave girls, and it was soon observ
ed that she was intelligent, spoke well, and in all respects was well beha
ved. All people thought well of her, and particularly the king; and at la
st it came to this that the king celebrated his wedding with her, and Yr
sa became queen of Sweden, andwas considered an excellent woman.
King Halfdan's son Helge ruled at that time over Leidre. He came to Swed
en with so great an army, that King Adils saw no other way than to f
ly at once. King Helge landed with his army, plundered,and made a great b
ooty. He took Queen Yrsa prisoner, carried her with him toLeidre, took h
er to wife, and had a son by her called Rolf Krake. When Rolf was three ye
ars old, Queen Alof came to Denmark, and told Queen Yrsa that herhusban
d, King Helge, was her own father, and that she, Alof, was her mother.The
reupon Yrsa went back to Sweden to King Adils, and was queen there as lo
ng as she lived. King Helge fell in a war expedition; and Rolf Krake, w
ho was then eight years old, was taken to be king in Leidre. King Adils h
ad many disputes with a king called Ole of the Uplands; and these kings h
ad a battle on the ice of the Venner lake, in which King Ole fell, and Ki
ng Adils won the battle. There is a long account of this battle in the "Sk
joldunga Saga", and also about Rolf Krake's coming to Adils, and sowing go
ld upon the Fyrisvold. King Adils was a great lover of good horses, and h
ad the best horses of thesetimes. One of his horses was called Slongve, a
nd another Raven. This horse he had taken from Ole on his death, and br
ed from him a horse, also called Raven, which the king sent in a prese
nt to King Godgest in Halogaland. When Godgest mounted the horse he was n
ot able to manage him, and fell off and was killed. This accident happen
ed at Omd in Halogaland. King Adils was at a Disa sacrifice; and as he ro
de around the Disa hall his horse' Raven stumbled and fell, and the king w
as thrown forward upon his head, and his skull was split, and his brains d
ashed out against a stone. Adils died at Upsal, and was buriedthe
re in a mound. The Swedes called him a great king. Thjodolf speaks th
usof him: --
"Witch-demons, I have heard men say,
Have taken Adils' life away.
The son of kings of Frey's great race,
First in the fray, the fight, thechase,
Fell from his steed -- his clotted brains
Lie mixed with mire on Upsal's plains.
Such death (grim Fate has willed it so)
Has struck down Ole'sdeadly foe."

Eystein, King Adils' son, ruled next over Sweden, and in his lifetime Ro
lf Krake of Leidre fell. In those days many kings, both Danes and Northme
n, ravaged the Swedish dominions; for there were many sea-kings who rul
ed over many people, but had no lands, and he might well be called a sea-k
ing who never slept beneath sooty roof-timbers.
There was a sea-king called Solve, a son of Hogne of Njardo, who at that t
ime plundered in the Baltic, but had his dominionin Jutland. He came wi
th his forces to Sweden, just as King Eystein was at afeast in a distri
ct called Lofond. Solve came unexpectedly in the night on Eystein, surroun
ded the house in which the king was, and burned him and all his court. Th
en Solve went to Sigtun, and desired that the Swedes should receive him, a
nd give him the title of king; but they collected an army, and tried to de
fend the country against him, on which there was a great battle, that last
ed, according to report, eleven days. There King Solve was victorious, a
nd was afterwards king of the Swedish dominions for a long time, unt
il at lastthe Swedes betrayed him, and he was killed. Thjodolf tel

How Eystein died -- but now I know
That atLofond the hero fell;
The branch of Odin was laid low,
Was burnt by Solve's Jutland men.
