Charles Boniface Roy was born about 1762 while his parents were help capti
ve in Halifax. In 1763 after the Peace Treaty was signed,they headed for t
he area of New Brunswick near Kennebecassis River.It was there along the r
iver that charles was baptized by Father Joseph Mathurin Bourg at the age
of 5 years.The family lived there until 1781,when they settled at Ecoupa
g. It was there charles married Helene Martin,daughter of Jean-Baptise mar
tin and Helene Godin Bellefontaine in 1785. In1791 charles boniface and h
is family settled in Madawawaska where they build a log cabin on Lot 1
16 in Hamlin Plantation.The Roy home is currently being preserved at the A
cadian Village in Van Buren.Their youngest son,Alexandre was born at Ecoup
ag,which means that they must have lived in Ecoupag until least 1806.Charl
es Boniface Roy is considered the father of the Acadian Roys of the Madaw
aska area who are usually identiied as Roy-Boniface.Most of his grandchild
ren,however ,have changed their names to King.

ot certain just where they lived from 1768 to 1780, howev
er we do know
th at Charles was baptised at the age of 5 years and 7 month
s, p robably
at Ha lifax by Father Joseph-Mathurin Bourg. This happened on Ju
ly 12 ,
176 8. In 1783, a census was taken of the people living in the u
pper St
J ohnR iver area. Among the settlers of the area were Joseph R
oy and
Benoit R o y. In 1786, the American Loyalists, that is the peop
le of the
American Co lonies who were sympathetic to the British during th
e
Revolutionary War, c am e up to Canada and dispossesed the Acadi
ans from
their land, the seco nd time in thirty years. It is probab
ly at this
time also, that Joseph R oy and his family resettled in the ar
ea of Petit
Rocher in New Brunswic k. Benoit could possibly have moved to Bu
ctouche.
Charles, in all probabil ity, was allowed to stay in the area be
cause of
his age.
In 1785, Charles married his second cousin, Helene Martin, the d
aught er
of Jean Baptiste Martin and Helene Godin Bellefontaine. The marr

ook place at Ste Anne des Pays Bas.

As I mentioned befor e, I knew people could not find Charles Bon
ifa
ce Roy's land grant because th ey were not looking for Charles K
ing in t
he records. Please be aware that th e surname King was always us
ed in
relat ion to government land grantswhen on e was being grant
ed or when
one was b eing petitioned for by the Roys of Quee nsbury.
Charles sold part of his land grant in later years to his son
s. so
m a ny land transactions took place regarding most "original la
nd grants"
th at many original lots, like Charles's became subdivided. So y
ou see,
Charl es B oniface Roy did receive a land grant. His son receiv
ed the lot
63 abo ve him, as shown on the map, but Francis remained livi
ng at
Kingsclea r, or I should say in the parish of Kingsclear. In t
he census
of 185 1, it appears he didn' t even reside on lot 63.
The land registry records show Charles selling land i n Feb 18
21 to
Sy lvanus King; in Feb 1821 to William King (Julien); in A
pr 18 25 to Alex
Kin g; in Apr 1825 to John Battice King (Jean Baptiste); those w
er e all
so ns of Charles so there you see more proof that this Charles K
ing of
the Pa rish of Queensbury was Charles Boniface Roywithout a dou
bt. Land
pe titio ns show a petition for land by Francis King in 1818, Ab
raham King
in 18 1 8, and a joint petition by Charles, Francis, and Abrah
am in 1818,
and anot her petition by Francis in 1824. Francis received his l
and grant
of l ot 63 i n 1828.
The Buckleys of Queensbury reside onlots 60 and 61 but not 6

There is good reason to believe that Pierre SIRE arrived in Acadia after
the signing of the Treaty of Breda (July 11, 1667) and before the arrival
of Hector d'ANDIGNE, Sieur de Grandfontaine (August 5, 1670).
Pierre SIRE was the first of the SIRE (CYR) line to arrive in Acadia.
Pere
Laurent MOLINS made the following entry in the all-important census of
1671:
Gunsmith - Pierre SIRE 27 years of age, his wife Marie BOURGEOIS 18 years
of age, their child a boy named Jehan 3 months. Their livestock eleven
cattle and six sheep, no land under cultivation.
The Center of Acadian Studies in Moncton has in its custody a file of
Placide GAUDET's papers on the SIRE (CYR) family. Two rough notes made
by
the eminent genealogist caught my eye:
Pierre CYR - gunsmith - native of France, where he was born in 1644,
married at Port Royal, in 1669, Marie BOURGEOIS, born in 1652, daughter
of
Jacques BOURGEOIS, surgeon, and of Jeanne TRAHAN. He died in Beaubassin
where, in 1680, his widow married a second time Germain GIROUARD, sonof
Francois and of Jeanne AUCOIN.
The date of Marie's second marriage is in church records, but the restof
GAUDET's note consists of deductions indubitably based on the 1671
census.
For example, simple subtraction produces 1644 as the year of Pierre's
birth. The year of his marriage could be said to be 1669 or 1670, since
his son was three months old at the time the census was taken, which was
in the early spring. How do we know? Because young lambs are mentioned
in the census! Jean was probably born in January 1671 or even December
1670.
GAUDET's second note read:
Pierre CYR - armurier - ne 1644 en France, vint en Acadie vers 1668 -il
est mort en 1679 a Beaubassin.
He may not have intended that these notes be considered definitive and
taken for gospel but, along with the census, they constitute our best
information concerning Pierre SIRE, and they have been widely accepted.
It
can be argued that Pierre arrrived in Acadia about 1668, since his wife
was a local girl and he already had a son three months old in early 1671.
He could not have been in this situation had he arrived in August of 1670
with Grandfontaine. It is unlikely that he came before 1668, because
Frenchmen were not coming to English-occupied Acadia between 1654 and
1667. It can also be argued that he died in 1679, because his son
Guillaume was born in 1680. His widow remarried June 9, 1680.
Pierre's occupation as a gunsmith suggests a connection with the
military,
although this is hardly conclusive. Was his arrival in Acadia relatedto
the dismantling of the Carignan regiment in Quebec in 1667-68? De TRACY
and TALON had returned to France during thos years with many officersand
men of the regiment, to say nothing of the 403 veterans who had optedto
stay in the new world. Pierre may or may not have been a veteran of the
Carignan regiment; he may or may not have had any connection with
Grandfontaine or his fellow officers; he may have come direct from France
as a military man or as a civilian; or he may have come to Acadia as a
military man or as an identured employee, with Morillon du BOURG or
otherwise, via the West Indies. The scope of the search is that open.
My search of Pierre's place of origan in France has been long, though
admittedly intermittent and superficial. The Public Archives of Canada
informed me December 13, 1976 that 'a search of the various indexes and
logical sources in our custody has failed to reveal the place of birthof
your ancestor Pierre SIRE in France.' It has been claimed that Pierre
came from the parish of St. Germain de Bourgueil, in Anjou, but the
appropriate archival authorities in Tours (Bourgueil is now in the
Departement d'Indre-et-Loire) informed me in writing on November 10, 1976
that a qualified person had searched those parish records as far backas
1638, finding neither the baptismal record of Pierre SIRE nor any
reference to the family name.
The origins of Pierre Cyr are somewhat obscure. Unverified references
point to Touraine-en-Loire, France. An equally unsubstantiated source
makes mention of St. Germaine de Bourgeuil near Orleans in the French
province of Touraine. It remains for French genealogists to work this
out.
In any case, records of 1668 indicate the presence of the young Pierre
Cyr
in Acadia on the Bay of Fundy. The Cyr name is now on the North American
Continent. Pierre Cyr is listed as a munitions maker. In 1670, Pierre
Cyr married the 17 year old Marie
In 1670, Pierre Cyr married the 17-year old Marie Bourgeois at Port
Royal,
Acadia (Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia today), and the couple started the
line of Cyrs which can be traced down to our present-day Cyrs. The
population of Acadia now consists of 441 souls.
Marie Bourgeois was the daughter of the former post surgeon under
Governor
d'Aulnay. Jacques Bourgeois, her father, appears to have developed a
sizeable estate. Laurant Molin's census of Acadia in 1671 begins with
the
Bourgeois family. His holdings at the time were said to include 33 head
of cattle, two dozen sheep, a pair of oxen and five acres of land under
tillage. The live- stock holdings of 27-year old Pierre Cyr, on the
other
hand were considerably smaller. He is listed as owning but one cow, two
sows and six sheep. (Massignon, p.944)
Shortly after 1671, Jacques Bourgeois, who also engaged in fur trading,
moved his family up the Bay of Fundy to Cumberland Basin, which the
Indians called Chignecto. With the move, Bourgeois was accompanied by
his
three sons-in-law, Pierre Cyr, Germaine Girouard, and Jean Boudrot.
Shortly thereafter, Michel Le Neuf, a Quebecois aristocrate, was granted
a
seigneurie in the area. It was he who renamed the Bourgeois settlement,
Beaubassin. (Clarke, p.141) We might surmise, Pierre Cyr may well have
worked in his father-in-law's grist mill and saw mill which he later
erected at Beaubassin.
The Cyrs became the parents of three sons. Jean the eldest, born in
1671,
later married Francoise Melanson whose father is said to have been of
Scotish origin. It appears the Melansons maya have arrived in Acadia
during the En- glish interregnum which saw Robert Sedgwick take over the
country in 1654, or Thomas Temple's arrival in 1657. (Arsenault p.57)
Jean, through his grandsons, became the grand patriarch of the Cyrs' of
Madawaska.
The other two sons were Pierre b. 1677, and Guillaume b. 1679. Pierre's
des- cedants ended up at St. Sevran de St. Malo, France during the eraof
Le Grand Derangement though later we find some family members in the
province of Quebec. Guillaume's family on the other hand, ended up in
Boston; and after the war, we find his widow at Miquelon, a French island
off the coast of northern Quebec.
Pierre Cyr, the family progenitor, allegedly died at Beaubassin, Acadia
circa 1678-1679. At the census of 1680, we find his young widow to have
remarried to Germain Girouard, who as noted, was among Jacques
Bourgeois's
sons-in-law. Pierre's widow gave birth to three other children with her
husband, Girouard, whom she had married at Beaubassin on June 9, 1680.
In
1686, she was a widow again and left with five children, the oldest being
15.
At the census of 1680, her three sons by first marriage were listed under
the name 'Cire'. Old documents use several spellings for the family
name,
includ- ing: Cire, Cyre, Sir, Sire, Syre, and Cyr. (Massignon, p.50)
Marie Bourgeois, the mother of the Cyr family of North America, livedto
a
ripe old age. Her death certificate, registered at Beaubassin, March3,
1741, gives her as being then 88-years old. The aging document notesthe
presence of her sons Jean Cyre and Pierre at the burial.

When Rev. Laurant Moin took the first census in Acadia, Jean Cyr, sonof
Pierre Cyr and Marie Bourgeois, was but three months old. Thus, despite
our lack of a birth record, we can safely assume that Jean Cyr was born
in
1671. He appears to have been born at Port Royal, the original Acadian
settlement whose history dates back to 1605. While yet an infant, the
family took him to Beaubassin where his maternal grandfather pioneereda
new settlement. Somewhere around 1692, young Jean Cyr married Francoise
Melanson, the daughter of Charles Melan- son, a Scotsman, and his French
wife, Marie Dugas. They eventually had five sons and four daughters who
lived through that migratory period of Acadian his- tory known as 'Le
Grand Derangement.'
Marriage records pertaining to their children indicate that Jean Cyr
continued to reside at Beaubassin at the head of Chignecto Bay for the
rest of his life. It is there at Beaubassin where on June 12, 1720 the
missionary noted the pass- ing of 'Jean Sire, epoux de Francoise
Millancon.'

ANTOINE BOURG-BOURQUE
Antoine Bour ou Bourg 1er, est né en France en 1609, selon le recensement de 1671 et en 1591, selon celui de 1686. Certains croient qu'il est originaire de Martaizé, petite commune localisée dans la province de Poitou, aujourd'hui dans le département de Vienne.
Nous savons qu'Antoine est venu en Acadie au début des années 1640, ou peut-être même entre 1632 et 1336. Vers 1642, il épouse à Port-Royal, Antoinette Landry, née en 1620, fille des ancêtres, Jean-Claude Landry et Marie Sallée, et sœur de René Landry mariée à Perrine Bourg, la sœur d'Antoine Bourg.
En Acadie, le ménage d'Antoine Bourg et d'Antoinette Landry se fixe sur la rive nord de la rivière du Port-Royal et donne son nom au village des Bourg. Ce village est situé à une courte distance, au nord-ouest du vieux Fort de la Capitale.
Du village, les Bourg ont une vue splendide sur le regroupement humain du Fort. Là sont établis les Mélanson, les Boudrot, les Vigneau, les Bergeron et d'autres, car " les gens du Fort " viennent d'un peu partout, étant soldats français ou, et surtout, artisans de tous les métiers utilitaires.
Des treize enfants du couple Antoine/Antoinette, trois ont une descendance jusqu'à nous, dans cette description généalogique.
Le premier enfant, qui est en fait, le deuxième du couple, Jean Bour, né en 1647. Jean épouse à Cobequid, vers 1667, Marguerite Martin. Elle est née vers 1639, sœur de Marie Martin, mariée à Pierre Morin, dit Boucher et fille de l'ancetre Pierre Martin et de Catherine Vigneau, venus de Saint-Germain de Bourgueil. Au recensement de 1686, Jean Bour a 40 ans et Marguerite Martin a 42 ans, à Port-Royal. Leur fille Magdeleine Bour a 8 ans et elle poursuit le lien de descendance en épousant Pierre Leblanc, en 1694, fils de l'ancêtre Daniel Leblanc et Françoise Gaudet.
Le deuxième enfant, une fille, le sixième du couple, nommée Jeanne Bour, née en 1653. Elle épouse vers 1669, à Port-Royal, Pierre Comeau, dit l'Esturgeon, né en 1653, aussi à Port-Royal, fils aîné des ancêtres des Comeau, Pierre etRose Bayols. Au recensement de 1686, Pierre Comeau et Jeanne Bour ont 32 ans.

Although today not as frequent as many Acadian surnames in Louisiana, that of THERIOT has a highly complex history, reflected in its widespread distribution in the southern part of the state. The Theriot family name was among those of the Aulnay seignory in Poitou, living in Martaize, department of Vienne, France. The first JEAN THERIOT (THEIERRY) was born circa 1570 in Martaize, France. He and his wife, ELIZABETH, were living there when JEAN was born in 1601, and when their daugher PERRINE was born. About 1635, Jean (son) married Perrine Breau, born about 1610. The following year, Jean and his wife Perrine, traveled with a group of French citizens who were going to Nova Scotia to settle there. As far as records show, this was the Theriot family to settle in Nova Scotia. Jean was a plowman. Jean Theriot and Perrine Breau's seven children were probably all born in Port Royal after they arrived in Nova Scotia.
Children born to the couple were

* Bonadventure, 1641;
* Jeanne, 1644;
* Germain, 1646;
* Catherine, 1650; and
* Pierre, born 1655.
By the 1671 census of Acadia, Jean had died and his wife a few years later.
Germain , born 1646 at Port Royal, the son of Jean and Perrine, married in 1668 Andree Brun, the daughter of Vincent Brun and Marie Brot. Their children were

Germain, the father, died in 1676.
Comparatively, few of Jean Terriau's descendants came to Louisiana after the Expulsion of 1755. However, the arrival of two Theriot families by 1766 in St. James Parish along the Mississippi River introduced the Theriots to Louisiana. With time, several other Theriots arrived settling in various parts of south Louisiana.

Antoine Bourg (Bourque) was born in Martaize, Loudon, Vienne, France.He arrived in Acadia from France on the Sailing Ship St-Jehan in 1636. He was married at Port Royal (Annapolis) Nova Scotia in 1636 toAntoinette Landry. He died after the 1686 Census. Antoine Bourg and Antoinette Landry had at least 14 children. They were: Francois,Marie, Jean, Bernard, Martin, Marie-Jeanne, Renee, Hugette, Jeanne, Abraham, Michel, Madeleine, Marguerite, & Marguerite-Marie. [Charland]

It is believed that Antoine Bourg, the founder of the family in Acadia, came originally from the parish of Martaize, near Loudun, France, and arrived at Port-Royal around 1640.
He married Antoinette Landry around 1643. Their grandson, Alexandre, settled at Grand-Pré, where he was appointed a royal notary and official surveyor of lands.
At the time of the Deportation, several Bourg families were able to escape and some of them settled at Menoudie and Memramcook in New Brunswick.
Among the Bourg families who were victims of the Deportation there was Joseph Bourg and his wife Madeleine Hache, the parents of Franç-Anne Bourg who is believed to be the first child to be baptized on the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

Arrived in Acadia about 1636. Antoine Bourg was born 1609 in Martaize, France in the region of Loudun, department de la Vienne. He arrived in Acadia in 1636 and established
his home at Port Royal where he married Antoniette Landry that same year. Antoine was the progenitor of the Bourg line in Acadia. Some of his children established their homes at Cobequid. Many of his descendants were to flee Colbequid prior to the expulsion in order to
escape the English and sought sanctuary on Isle-St. Jean which was a French Colony.

ANTOINE BOURG-BOURQUE
Antoine Bour ou Bourg 1er, est né en France en 1609, selon le recensement de 1671 et en 1591, selon celui de 1686. Certains croient qu'il est originaire de Martaizé, petite commune localisée dans la province de Poitou, aujourd'hui dans le département de Vienne.
Nous savons qu'Antoine est venu en Acadie au début des années 1640, ou peut-être même entre 1632 et 1336. Vers 1642, il épouse à Port-Royal, Antoinette Landry, née en 1620, fille des ancêtres, Jean-Claude Landry et Marie Sallée, et sœur de René Landry mariée à Perrine Bourg, la sœur d'Antoine Bourg.
En Acadie, le ménage d'Antoine Bourg et d'Antoinette Landry se fixe sur la rive nord de la rivière du Port-Royal et donne son nom au village des Bourg. Ce village est situé à une courte distance, au nord-ouest du vieux Fort de la Capitale.
Du village, les Bourg ont une vue splendide sur le regroupement humain du Fort. Là sont établis les Mélanson, les Boudrot, les Vigneau, les Bergeron et d'autres, car " les gens du Fort " viennent d'un peu partout, étant soldats français ou, et surtout, artisans de tous les métiers utilitaires.
Des treize enfants du couple Antoine/Antoinette, trois ont une descendance jusqu'à nous, dans cette description généalogique.
Le premier enfant, qui est en fait, le deuxième du couple, Jean Bour, né en 1647. Jean épouse à Cobequid, vers 1667, Marguerite Martin. Elle est née vers 1639, sœur de Marie Martin, mariée à Pierre Morin, dit Boucher et fille de l'ancetre Pierre Martin et de Catherine Vigneau, venus de Saint-Germain de Bourgueil. Au recensement de 1686, Jean Bour a 40 ans et Marguerite Martin a 42 ans, à Port-Royal. Leur fille Magdeleine Bour a 8 ans et elle poursuit le lien de descendance en épousant Pierre Leblanc, en 1694, fils de l'ancêtre Daniel Leblanc et Françoise Gaudet.
Le deuxième enfant, une fille, le sixième du couple, nommée Jeanne Bour, née en 1653. Elle épouse vers 1669, à Port-Royal, Pierre Comeau, dit l'Esturgeon, né en 1653, aussi à Port-Royal, fils aîné des ancêtres des Comeau, Pierre etRose Bayols. Au recensement de 1686, Pierre Comeau et Jeanne Bour ont 32 ans.
Puis, le troisième enfant qui nous concerne, le huitième du couple Antoine/Antoinette, Hughette Bour, née en 1657. Elle épouse vers 1676, à Port-Royal, Sébastien Brun, fils des ancêtres Brun, Vincent et Marie Brault.
Le premier recensement nominal, en Acadie, en 1671, nous fait voir les Bour ; Antoine Bour, le père avec ses fils Michel, Bernard, François et Jean Bour, formant autant de ménages. Au recensement acadien de 1686, Antoine Bour a 95 ans et Antoinette Landry a 80 ans.
Le nom Bourc, n'est qu'une simple erreur typographique. L'étymologie-même du nom Bour, dans le Dict. d'ancien français, signifie " tromperie aussi : attrape " ; il vient du mot latin-populaire " burra ".
Le nom Bour, peut aussi provenir du flamand " boer " qui se prononce " bour " tout en signifiant " paysan ".
Le mot Bourg signifie " gros village, qui provient du mot germanique " borc " qui signifie château-fort.
Les variations graphiques sont : Bour - Bourre - Bouhours - Bourg - Dubourg - Bourk - Bourgues - Bourcq - Bourque.
C'estainsi que græe à l'ancêtre Antoine Bourg, le nom de Bourg et Bourque a pris racine en Amérique.
