From Walter Levensaler, "The Levensaler's of Waldoboro, Maine."
- Developed one of the largest farms in Waldoboro. Located in North Waldoboro near Benner Corner. A notation in the town tax record of 1822 characterized the farm as being so large that it took three yoke of oxen to work it. He worked the farm with his 10 children for over fifty years.
- Levensaler Brook runs through this land.
- Sold goods to many prominent citizens including Mr. Isaac Reed who designed the Maine state seal.
This is the branch from which Walter Levensaler is also descended, through son John Adam, who wrote the family history.
General Notes: Child - Moses W. Levensaler

David Ackerman:
The Ackerman Family, compiled by Barbara Tobey.
David and Elisbeth with six children were living in Berlicum, North Brabant, a
few miles south of Oss and Geffen, when they decided to emigrate to America.
They left the port of Amsterdam September 2nd. 1662 on the ship VOS. Probably
some time was spent in an English port and then about mid-Sept. the VOS again
proceeded to the New Netherlands. After a stormy voyage they arrived in New
Amsterdam on November 14, 1662. The Dutch West Indies Company ledger for this
trip is still preserved in the New York state archives in the State Library at
Albany, NY.
Unfortunately it was not to be for David to enjoy the wonders of the new land.
He died perhaps on the rough voyage over, probably in 1662, before Jan 6th 1663
when his wife Lizabeth and their oldest child, daughter Anneken, then nearly
21, joined the church in New Amsterdam. Elizabeth was resourceful hard working
woman and was helped by kind friends and neighbors. She managed to raise a good
healthy family. Before June 1663 they were living in a small house owned by
Jonas Barteltzen, next door to him on the Marketfield, later this was Whitehall
Street NY City, across from where the weekly market was held under the walls of
the Fort. In those days there were no stores and offices, so most business was
carried on in the home so it was natural for widow Lisbet to serve beer and
some food (the brewery was just around the corner) and a few beaver pelts, to
make money. She occasionally had to "sell some household goods to procure food
for her children" as she told the Orphanmaster's Court, when she was called
before them on April 26, 1663. Five years after David died, on Jan 29 1668, now
at age 52, she was married to Kier Wolthers. She and her boys moved to Harlem,
just North of NY City, to his farm. Abraham her youngest child was now nearly
twelve and could help with the work. She died a couple of months later.

Genealogical History of Hudson and Bergen Counties New Jersey, page 53. Article
tells about reasons David came to America.
According to Marion G. Snedecor, Membership Genealogist, David Ackerman
Descendrnts - 1662: In the past someone incorrectly entered David's wife's
name as DeVillier. The real name is Bellier. The DAD - 1662 hired a prominent
genealogist in the netherlands and the baptismal record shows tne name is
Bellier.
General Notes: Wife - Elisbeth De Villiers Bellier
Elisbeth Bellier:
The Ackerman Family, compilied by Barbara Tobey.
New Jersey Genealogies indicate that Elizabeth's "Lysbeth" name may have been
Villiers or de Villiers. Dutch reformed Church records from city of Bosch
indicate name.

identified by an "Earmark" was shot and two men were hauled into court to
account for the shooting. (Riker's History of Harlem, p.313) By deed of 2 Sep

A. F. Ackley Resident of San Juan Island 37 Years
After an illness dating from the early part of March when he suffered an attack of flu, Mr. Ackley passed away Friday, June 14th 1929, at the home of his son Robert at the age of 86 years, seven months, and six days. While Mr. Ackley would rally at times he was unable to overcome his enfeebled condition and he gradually grew weaker until the end came Friday morning. Death was not unexpected.
Mr. Ackley was born November 8, 1843, in Cutler, Maine, where he received his schooling. At the age of fifteen he decided to go to sea and signed on the books of the Union, a topsail schooner trading between East Machias, Maine, and New York City, and later shipping with other vessels which took him to the four-corners of the earth.
Mr. Ackley served two years as a sailor in the Civil War, starting from New York and on the way to Norfork was wounded. After recovery he took service on the transport steamer John L. Gibson. He was an eye-witness to the fierce duel fought between the Merrimac and the Monitor, early in March, 1862, one of the epoch events in the history of the United States. Mr. Ackley had a clear memory of this event and could interestingly tell the happenings of this great battle.
After roaving the briny deep for about fourteen years, he decided to "settle-down" and came back to his old home in East Machias, Maine, where on June 22, 1871, he married to Miss Annie E. Mulno. Here they built a humble home while Mr. Ackley was employed in a sawmill. After nearly four years' residence in Maine they decided to come west and landed in Port Gamble, Washington, May 29th, 1875, where the familiy home was maintained for about eleven years. After a short residence in Seattle, the family came to San Juan Island, in May 1892, where Mr. Ackley acquired and developed the fine San Juan Valley Farm which is now operated by his son, Robert, and which has been the father's home in his declining years.
Mr. and Mrs. Ackley celebrated their golden wedding, June 22, 1921, and the following year, on September 14th, 1922, his life partner for half a century passed to her reward. To this union were born eight children, four sons and four daughters. Two daughters are buried in Maine and two sons at Port Gamble. The remaining children are Tom Ackley, Robert Ackley, Mrs. Bob Erickson, and Mrs. Joe Taylor, all residents of San Juan Island.
Mr. Ackley took an active part in community affairs. Politically, he was a staunch Republican. He was a member of the San Juan County Pioneers' Association, also of the Washington Pioneers.
Funeral Services were held at the Valley Presbyterian church, Sunday after noon, internment in the Valley Cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.
Mr. Ackley's long residence on the Island, coupled with his genial disposition, drew about him a wide circle of friends who will always retain a remembrance of him as a man that was a worthy citizen, a good neighbor, and a friend who always held out an open-hand of hospitality as was the true custom of the pioneer. What greater monument could a man desire than these.2. Occupation 37, Sawmill - East Machias, Washington , Maine

General Notes: Child - Oliver Ackley
Few Americans acquire the honor of having their name tagged to a body of water. Oliver Ackley is known today mostly for the Cutler pond which bears his name. Some fall into the habit of calling Oliver Ackley Pond: the "Pond" or "Ackley Pond;" but the slightly larger than ten acre pond, which most naturalists figure has changed little since early days of the 1780's Town settlement, cannot possess a more appropriate label.
Oliver Ackley was born at Machias on January 27, 1783. He took his first infant breath as a son of former British colo-nials, Benajah and Anna (Holmes) Ackley, who lived in the rebellious Shiretown during those dicey times. When the Peace of Paris was signed on October 19, 1783 (presently known as Sweetest Day) a mu-sician drummer, John I. Davis attended General George Wash-ington at Yorktown. Davis was one of Cutler's first settlers.
Oliver Ackley married Elizabeth McGuire of Cutler on April 4, 1806. For a while he carried mail to Cutler inhabi-tants beginning in 1837.
The first Cutler Post Office was established in 1830. Ack-ley's contract letter from the Post Office Department on April 22 1837 stated: "Sir, Before you can receive pay for carrying the mail, it will be necessary for you to furnish the certificate of the Postmaster at the beginning or end of the route, as to the date of the ac-tual commencement of service under your present contract, which expires on the 30th of June next. Respectfully, S. R. Hobbie, First Assistant P.M. General."
Earlier, in the fifty-second year of United States Independence as one document proudly explains, or 1828, Ackley was given an appointment by Gov-ernor Enoch Lincoln of Maine. Mind you, Maine was only an 8-year-old State in the Union, and Cutler in but its second year as a town, when the fish with fisheries not surprisingly were of concern under state supervi-sion.
Ackley's appointment reads: "our Governor, reposing special trust and confidence in the integrity, ability and discre-tion of Oliver Ackley of Cutler, hath nominated, and by and with the advice and consent of our Council, appointed the said Oliver Ackley, Inspector of Pickled Fish, and smoked Alewives and Herrings for the town of Cutler, in the County of Washington."
Ackley holds the distinc-tion of being Cutler's first recorded government official appointed by both the governor of the Great State of Maine, and the Assistant Post Master Gen-eral of the United States.
That first Post Office of 1830, where Ackley brought the mail, was shipped from Machi-asport to Cutler, for distribution from the Burnham Mill Lot. This Post Office operated later under the name of the "North Cutler Post Office," and after the dismantling of the sawmill at Turner Stream outlet was operated by Elvie Bryant in the present house of Arlene Bryant high on the ridge of a glacial moraine overlooking Little Ma-chias Bay.
Mail is generally reliable incoming commodity; whereas the prospect of fish on the other hand is another kettle of fish altogether.
Several years ago, while collecting information at the Maine State Archives in Augusta, I ran across the fol-lowing handwritten note of Oliver Ackley. In a good script, with bleak aspect, he penned:
n "Mr. Edward Rufsell, Esq.,
n Secretary of State, Portland:
Cutler, February 29th, 1830. Dear sir. I received a letter from you a requesting me to represent to you as near as may be in my power the quantity of dried and pickled Fish which was brought and imported into this Town in the year of 1828. Sir at the best of my knowledge there was about two hundred & fifty quen-tles of dried fish and about twenty barrels of pickled Fish. I dont know as I understand your question whether it means the dried and pickled Cod fish only, but for fear I dont answer your question I will send you the quantity of smoked fish which I inspected in the year of 1828 was 13.00 Boxes, and the year 1829 - 1.35 Boxes. Our fishery here used to be of considerable value but late years it is getting to of no great value. Respectively your most Obedi-ent Servent - Oliver Ackley
- Inspector of Fish."
The next time you go fishing in Oliver Ackley Pond, remember: tell those you meet that you weren't just dangling a line in any run-of-the-mill, generically-tagged pond, but in an historically named authentic and geologic marvel - the real thing: Oliver Ackley Pond!

Notes: Marriage
The correct data on Lurana/Lurany hinges on two pieces of data. Firstly, she married 1st a Benajah
Ackley on 21 May 1747, at Lebanon, CT, as per CT marriage records (which are published in book
form). Benajah was the son of James & Elizabeth (---?---) Ackley. James was the son of Nicholas &
Hannah (---?---) Ackley, an immigrant.
Secondly, she married 2nd a Jonathan Woodruff. Benajah died by 21 July 1761, perhaps in CT,
perhaps in Nova Scotia. His widow was granted land in Cornwallis, NS, on that date, as shown in
Eaton's "History of King's County, NS". However, there is a misprint that calls her Lawrence Akley.
No Lawrence can be founs and there are two deeds which mention Lurana as the wife of Jonathan
Woodruff and selling land she had taken up as the Widow Ackley (21 July 1761 & 12 June 1764 -
King's Co., NS, land records).
Jonathan & Lurana moved on to Machias, ME, by 26 July 1766 when he signed a power of attorney at
Machias executed by the inhabitants thereof. No death records for Benajah Ackley, Jonathan
Woodruff or Lurana Woodruff have been found. Jonathan and an apparent spouse are found in the
1790 census of Machias, unless that is his son Jonathan Jr. (he had 3 children by Lurana - Anna &
betsey besides Jonathan).

Description:
The Gene Pool was created while gathering genealogical data for use in the study of human genetics and disease. Compiling data for genetic research does not require the same type of documentation as traditional genealogical research. The genes themselves verify relationships and qualify or disqualify a person from a particular study. Citing the source of every genealogical fact in the electronic gene pool was deemed unnecessary and cost prohibitive by medical researchers. Millions of individual records were created from birth, marriage and death records; obituaries; probate records; books of remembrance; family histories; genealogies; family group sheets; pedigree charts; and other sources. The records collected that did not fit a specific study became the project's "by-products" and were schedule to be discarded. After viewing the quality of the source material used to create the gene pool and despite the absence of cited documentation, the electronic rights to the data were purchased, rather than see it destroyed.
Extended Description:
Thousands of families are known to be present in the database, containing 20 million names in 5 million records. This data covers the entire U.S. for a wide expanse of years. At a minimum, each record contains an individual's name, date and place of birth, and the name of his or her father. A complete record will contain the following information for an individual: Name, Date and Place of Birth, Date and Place Married, Date and Place of Death, Name of Spouse, Name of Father, Name of Mother, Use this database as a finding tool, just as you would any other secondary source. When you find the name of an ancestor listed, confirm the facts in original sources, such as birth, marriage, and death records, church records, census enumerations, and probate records for the place where the even took place.
