John Beal, the Centenarian and Descendants, by Bertha Beal Aldridge, c.1956, Victor, New York:
He live fifty years in England and fifty years in America.
History of the Town of Old Hingham, Vol. II, 1853 (reprinted in 1982): JohnBeal the progenitor of the large family bearing his name, and dwelling in Hingham, Cohasset, Weymouth and Abington, came from the parish of Hingham in Foreshoe Hundred, in the county of Norfolk, England, which is situated about fourteen miles west-southwest of Norwich, the shire town, and about ninety-eight north-east of London., He came in a vessel called the "Diligente," of whichJohn Martin was master, arriving at Boston on the tenth of August, 1638. Daniel Cushing, one of the early town clerks of Hingham, who also came to New England in the above named vessel, in a manuscript list of the early settlers of Hingham, which has fortunately been preserved, says of him: "John Bealle, shoe-maker, with his wife and 5 sons and 3 daughters and 2 servants, came fromOld Hingham and settled in New Hingham."
Perhaps the inducement that led Mr. Beal to select Hingham as a place of abode was, that his wife, Nazareth, was daughter of Edmund Hobart, and consequently sister of Rev. Peter Hobart, the first minister of that town, who had chosen that place for his labors a few years previous. The five sons and three daughters of Mr. Beal who were brought over from England were, Martha, Mary, Sarah, John, Nathaniel, Jeremiah, Joshua and Caleb. Two other children, Rebecca and Jacob, were born in America. Not long after his settlement at Hingham he became a landowner, as may be inferred from the following entry taken from the town's book of grants of land: "Given unto John Beal for a house lot, 6 acres of land butting upon the town street northward, and upon the common southward, bounded with the land of Jonas Austin eastward, and with the land of Thomas Hobart westward." The siteof this home lot can easily be pointed out on the south side of the present South Street (which was the ancient Town Street), and west of Hersey Street, which was laid out through Mr. Austin's original lot. On the 13th of March succeeding his arrival, Mr. Beal was admitted to the freedom of the Massachusetts Colony, by taking the customary freeman's oath, which he did at the same time with several of his fellow townsmen; and in 1649, in company with NicolasJacob, he represented the town of Hingham in the General Court of the Colony. Mr. Beal lived to a good old age; for under date of April 1st, 1688, Judge Sewall noted in his diary: "Father Beal of Hingham dies at 100," and David Hobart wrote under the same date: "My Uncle John Beal died suddenly."
FTM CD113, Savage's Geneal.Dict. of Early Settlers in New England, pg 406:

Some family genealogist have Nathaniel's mother as John Beal's first wife

would seem more likely as there are some who say John m. Nazareth

FTM CD113, Savage's Geneal.Dict. of Early Settlers of New England, pg408:
Nathaniel, Hingham b. in Eng. was perhaps of Marshfield 1643 but for
short time.Freeman 1650, Rep. 1677, 83, 91 and 93. Died 20 Dec 1708.
His will proved 29 Dec. following, names son Nathaniel, eldest son bapt
Oct 1648; Martha, bapt. Aug 1646.
FTM CD113, John Beal, by Clark, 1987:
Family History : 217 Genealogy Books
Nathaniel: Born in England and christened 2 March 1621. Married Martha
(could be Chubbuck). She died 10 May 1692 and he died 20 Dec ember 1708.
He was a cordwainer. (A worker in cordovan leather).
Subnote:
Some familygenealogist have Nathaniel's mother as John Beal's first wife
Francis Ripley(v. Nazareth Hobart) who was born or bapt. 4-15-1584 at
Wramplingham, and who m. to John Beal on 6-11-1616 at
Wymondham, Norfolk, England and who died (supposedly) 3-16-1630 at
Wymondham. This would seem more likely as there are some who say John
m. Nazareth (Hobart) Turner in July of 1630 at Hingham, Norfolk,
England. See FTM CD113, Beal Gen. 1987. JBK
Update to above note:
NEHGS NEXUS Vol. 8 No.2, Apr-May 1991 under Notable Kin column,
additions, and corrections: The mother of Nathaniel Beal was Francis
Ripley.

SETH L. LARRABEE is a descendant of the Scarborough Larrabees of historic fame. He was born in that town, February 22, 1855, and is a son of the late Jordan L. Larrabee and of Caroline F. Beals Larrabee. He received his preliminary education in the district schools of his native town, and was fitted for college at the Westbrook Seminary. He entered Bowdoin College in 1871 and graduated in the class of 1875.
After his graduation Mr. Larrabee was for some time Professor of Languages in Goddard Seminary, Barre, Vt. In 1878 he was admitted to the Bar in Cumberland County, having prepared himself for the practice of his profession in the well-known law office of Strout & Gage, of Portland.
Mr. Larrabee, very soon after his admission to the Bar, opened an office in Portland and entered actively upon the practice of law. His abilities and industry were soon recognized, and he was not long in building up a good business, which has constantly grown until now he has a very large and lucrative law practice.
In 1879 he was elected Register of Probate for Cumberland County, and re-elected, serving two terms of four years each in that office. In 1891 he was elected City Solicitor of the city of Portland, was re-elected in 1893 and is now serving in that capacity with signal ability.
Mr. Larrabee is a busy man in his business, his professional and official duties demanding about all his time. But he is public spirited and enterprising, and is most desirous of seeing his city grow and prosper. It is a widely recognized fact that through his connections with the Portland Board of Trade, of which he is an active member and one of the Board of Managers, he has done more, according to the time and means at his command, to aid and promote the industrial interests of Portland than almost any other man. To this end he has devoted much valuable time without the hope of any personal reward.
He was one of the originators and principal promoters of the Casco Building and Loan Association, which is to-day one of the largest and most successful institutions of the kind in the State. He is Treasurer of and Attorney for this Association, as he is also for the Portland Building and Loan Association. He is also a Director in the Chapman National Bank. Many successful industrial corporations in Portland have been instituted through his influence and under his direction, and are aided in the management of their business by his prudent counsel and advice.
Mr. Larrabee's efforts in the line of promoting the prosperity of his city have been untiring, and much valuable time has been sacrificed by him to this purpose that might have been employed in his own private gain. He is a man of fine physique, has a great capacity for work and excellent executive abilities, all of which enable him to work expeditiously and effectively.
That his work in the direction noted is fully appreciated by his fellow-citizens is clearly shown by the confidence they repose in him, and is an evidence of his good judgment, tact, and business sagacity. With a large law practice and an excellent standing in the business world, a most pleasant and prosperous future seems assured to him.
Mr. Larrabee married, October 21, 1880, Lulu B. Sturtevant, daughter of Dr. Joseph Sturtevant of Scarborough. They have two children, Sydney B. and Leon S. Larrabee.
