Born: Baptized: June 30, 1633 - St. Thomas, Exeter, Devon, England 31 Died: - Gloucester, Essex County, MA Buried:
Children
General Notes: Husband - Lieut. Thomas Millett
Millett gives the date of Thomas' baptism as "16 Aug 1632-3"; Torrey shows his birth as 1633. Since August is not one of the months that can use double-dating, the correct baptismal date is probably 16 August 1633. Reed and Mahler confirm that Thomas was not baptized at Newbury, Berkshire, where his father came from, but had not examined the St. Saviour's, Southwark, registers to confirm the date Millett gave.
Thomas, age 2, came with his parents in 1635 on the "Elizabeth".
Thomas married (1) Mary Eveleth; they had no children. He married (2) Abigail (Coit) Eveleth, widow of Mary's brother Isaac Eveleth. She bore him three sons, two of whom survived.
Savage says Thomas was at Gloucester in 1642. In 1655, Thomas had the land of his father, lying near the old Meeting-house Plain in Gloucester. Babson calls him Ensign in the military company; Millet calls him Lieutenant. He served a few years as a selectman.
Thomas came into possession of the land at Kettle Cove originally granted to Mr. Blynman. This was situated near the Manchester bounds, and in the last years of his life, Thomas was a resident of Manchester. He kept his house in Gloucester, however.
John Greenway (Greenaway), in a deed dated "fifth day, twelf month ... 1650", gave his house and lands at Dorchester to his daughter Ursula after the death of John and Mary Greenway. If Ursula were to die without children, the property was to go to "my kinsman and servant Thomas millett, the sonne of Thomas & mary Millett my sonne in Lawe & daughter", Thomas making specified payments to the other children of John Greenway and their heirs.
The will of Thomas Millett is dated 9 June 1707, proved 2 August 1708. He directs "unto my wifes three first children namely Isaac Evelethe, Job Evelethe and Hannah Bennett ye wife of Peter Bennett, foure pounds a peice." (Essex Co. Probates #9162).
Following his death there was apparently some dispute over the ownership of Isaac's Gloucester common right, for in the commanage list of 24 January 1708/1709 there is a note dated 7 March 1710 that states that as one of Thomas Millett's two common rights derived from "the house and land of Isaac Eveleth deceased the said Tho: Millett marrying with the widow..." the said right should revert to Isaac's children. (Gloucester Town Records 1:2:29)
General Notes: Wife - Mary Eveleth
There is considerable variation in the dates various sources give for Mary.
NEHGR 134:302 says she was christened 30 June 1633 in England. The Heverly genealogy claims she was born about 1635, possibly in Maryland or Virginia. Millett places her birth in 1640. All agree she was the daughter of Sylvester Evelith.
Her death is given as 2 July 1687/1688 by Babson, 12 July 1686/1687 by Millett, and 7 January 1687/1688 by NEHGR 134:302. Torrey says 1687.

History of Industry
After his marriage to Nacy Eveleth, he settled on Lot No. 20 on the Lowell Strip. Here he cleared some land and built a log house some distance uo the mountain and north of the present road. At the time of his marriage no settler on the Lowell Strip has a title of the land he occupied. Some years later an effort was made to purchase the entire strip, and Mr. Norton was chosen one of a committee of three to negotiate for the same. This venture proved extremely disastrous in a financial sense to all concerned, and hoping to better his condition by finding some lucrative employment, he returned to Martha's Vineyard. He went afterward to New Orleans in company with his son and Capt. Jeruel Butler, where all died of yellow fever.

Even in those days, the Richmonds were seeking their heiritage. A letterin Henry
Richmond's book from John's nephew, Oliffe Richmond to his cousinSilvester says:
"Ashton Keyes, 29 March 1736. Dear Cousin -- It is agreed by all that ourancestors first settled at rodborne, Wilts; th at two branches lived atChedderton, in Lyddiard Treygoze Parish, Wilts and Brinkworth, Wilts. Thefarthest of our famil y I can trace is our grandfather who lived atChristian Malford, Wilts, about three miles from Chippenham in the CO.Th e house is now standing. Henry, our grandfather, had four wives and asI have been informed twenty-five children, twelv e of whom grew up to bemen and women. Children by his first wife were: John and Henry (TheAmesbury Branch) now descendi ng form John who killed his brother duringthe civil wars and cost our grandfather so much money to save his lifethat hi s estate was sold or mortgaged. Children by second wife: Peter,(father to George and William). Children by his third wi fe: Silvester,Oliffe (my father), James (died at Campden in Gloucester CO and leftchildren), and Francis who died witho ut offspring. Children by fourthwife: Jane, Edward, Mary (died unmarried), Elizabeth (who married butleft no children) , and Thomasine (married in Ashton Keynes and leftchildren). John and Henry our grandfather's other sons were officer s ofdistinction in the civil wars, one in the King's Army and the other inCromwell's, and our grandfather's home was of ten plundered by botharmies, the King's party saying he had a son in Cromwell's party andCromwell's party that he ha d a son in the King's.
Your affectionate though unknown kinsman,
"Oliffe Richmond"
