General Notes: Husband - Eliakim Tupper

According to Miller (1), Eliakim emigrated from New England to the "western part of the Province" about 1760 (it would have been with his father Elias, Eliakim being about 20 at the time). He is recorded in Cornwallis in 1761 and was married to Elizabeth Newcomb in Cornwallis in 1762. They moved to Truro in about 1773. The would eventually have a large family of 11 children.

In Truro he built a two story house and kept the only inn. On 16 September 1780 he was appointed Justice of the Peace for Colchester and Pictou Counties. He was also a merchant and a contractor (he finished the inside of the first Truro church). However, his business was not very profitable so with his large family he moved to Middle Stewiacke in about 1792. There he bought the farm of Mathew Johnson, a son-in-law of Eleanor Archibald. He died ther 22 August 1810 and his wife on 10 February 1824.

Elizabeth Newcomb was the daughter of Capt. Eddy Newcomb (1713-1841) and Abigail English (1724-1790 (15) and was born on 12 June 1743 in Lebanon, New London Co. CT. The source (16) has the same birth date but birthplace as NS. Since Elizabeth's brother also married into the Tupper family (see Mary below) it is possible that her parents had also emigrated to Nova Scotia along with some or most of their children (they are not recorded in (1)).

General Notes: Child - Samuel Tupper

Samuel Tupper settled on the south side of the Stewiacke River. He was a prominent man of the area being the only Justice of the peace that Upper Stewiacke had for many years. He and his second wife had 13 children.

He had two daughters by his first wife.

General Notes: Child - Eddy Tupper

Eddy inherited a part of his father's farm.

General Notes: Child - Cyrenius Parke

CYRENIUS PARKE U.E.,a direct descendant of Robert Parke, was my gt,gt,gt great grandfather. He was a colonist who remained faithful to the Crown during the American War of Independence (1775-1783),otherwise known as The American Revolution, and joined General Burgoyne's British Forces to fight the rebels along with his brother James Parke. They were driven from their homesteads by the rebels and were forced to flee the country leaving all their possessions behind. They sailed from New York, reached Lachine,Quebec and continued to Sorel where they wintered in tents and hastily built cabins. The final stage of their journey was on flat-bottomed boats called "bateaux" and they travelled from Lachine up the St.Lawrence River to land at Adolphustown on June 16,1784.
Cyrenius,a UNITED EMPIRE LOYALIST,was granted a large tract of land from the Crown because of his position in the Army and settled at Hay Bay,near Napanee,Ontario,Canada. He had eight children by his first wife. She died and he remarried and his second wife bore him twelve more children.Of those 20 children, 18 reached adulthood, married and thus propagated Ontario with Parke descendants.

no deed has been found. However, he may have had a deed, not register ed,
and as a result of Nathaniel joining the King's army his property would
be confiscated. see Nov. 22, 1777 'Congress recommended the confiscation
of all Loyalist estates.'

Nathaniel Parks was enlisted by Cap tain Peter Campbell for his company in
the
3rd Battalion, New Jersey Volunte ers (known as Skinners Greens) on 6
June 1778. Joseph Parks enlisted as a s ergeant in the same company and
battalion and on the same date, except that h e was enlisted by Lieutenant
Bartholomew Thatcher. Both Campbell and Thatche r were from Hunterdon
County, New Jersey and the dates of enlistment of the m en in their
company suggest that the men were enlisted during the British mar ch from
Philadelphia to Sandy Hook.
In the muster of August 31, 1778 howev er, Nathaniel Parks is listed as the
sergeant and Joseph Parks as a private, i n now Captain Bartholomew
Thatcher's
Company. This was the same company asb efore, except Peter Campbell did
not
have the command, as there was much con fusion over his eligibility for
rank
over reasons not necessary to cover her e.
In October of 1778, Joseph Parks participated in the successful raids on
Egg
Harbor, New Jersey under Captain Patrick Ferguson and the subsequent
sur prise
of Pulaski's Legion.
Both Parks sailed with the expedition to take Sava nnah, Georgia, which was
effected on 29 December in 1778. They subsequentlyto ok part in the
Franco-
American Siege of that city in September/October 1779 . They were both
listed
as sick in quarters on November 29, 1779, Josephnow promoted to corporal,
both still serving in the same company and battalion.
Both Parks continued in this situation through 1780 and into 1781. During
tha t period the battalion march in July of 1780 from Savannah to Augusta,
Georgia , and shortly thereafter to Ninety Six, South Carolina. At Ninety
Six
there were numerous small expeditions and skirmishes, which they may have
takenpart in. They took part in the Siege of Ninety Six by the Rebel
forces
under Ge neral Nathanael Greene through May and June of 1781, and the
immediate evacua tion of that post after the lifting of that event. They
also took part in th e very bloody Battle of Eutaw Springs, South
Carolina, on 8 September
1781, surviving apparently unscathed. At this time they were serving in
the
same company but the battalion had just been renumbered to the 2nd. This
was
due to the "old" 2nd battalion being under strength and drafted into the
1st
an d late 4th battalions.
The two Parks were in their same situation, company a nd battalion at
Charlestown in the April 1782 muster. They would continue the re until the
city was evacuated by the British in December of 1782, when they sailed
back
to the British garrison at New York. Joseph Parks was sentwith an
advance
party of the battalion to Nova Scotia with the fleet in theSpring of
1783.
There he remained until joined by Nathaniel and the rest ofthe bat talion
that
did not take their discharge at New York. The battalionwas disb anded on
10
October 1783 and they were discharged on that day. That's all I can tell
you
on them, other than bot

The Prust arms evolved into the Priest arms described below. Need to investigate which arms were used by this Hugh Prust/Priest]

Any unsourced data has been gathered from various, and not necessarily reliable, sources. I know there are some duplications due to missing dates, but I am updating and correcting this as often as possible. So if you find errors/omissions/duplications, please let me know. The concept here is backwards to the norm, in that I'm entering everything I find, and gradually authenticating what I can. At the very least, I figure it might give others an idea of where to head as they search for their own authenticating data.
