Enlisted in Military service in 1862 at West Point, Bates Co., Missouri, CivilWar division. He served 3 years in Co. H. 12th Missouri Cavalry. He was wounded twice while in the service of his country.
Postmaster at Ruth Post Office"D" county. Indian Territory 6/20/1895 Located southeast corner of Dewey Co. This office was closed July 30,1904.
My company with the others of the 12th Mo. Cav. were ordered to leave White Station, Tenn. of the Morning of Sept.30,1864. Which I did with 53 men leaving two Liert's sick and the remainder of my company in charge of Camp and sick men. Marched East (nand) and crossed the Tenn. River at Clifton Oct.6th thence to Waynesboro, thence to Lawrenceburg then S.W. toward Florence, Ala. and when within a few miles of Florence moved toward Waterloo where we arrived the 10th thence to Savannah thence to Clifton, again where we arrived the 18th. Scouted many miles to the East and found no enemy save bushwhacker to interrupt our stay left Clifton Oct. 30th and reached Lawrenceburg Oct.31st. Having rode on an average of 20 miles per day for a total of 600 miles since Leaving Wite Station, John Collar Capt.
My Company with the others of our Regt. left Lawrenceburg, Tenn Nov.1st and reached (Dulaski?) the same day where we remained until Nov. 5th when we moved over more toward the Tenn. River and on the 6th we met the Enemy at Shoal Creek, Ala. and skirmished with them daily until Nov. 19 when we commenced falling back toward Columbia, Tenn. and at Lawrenceburg fought during the afternoon and again fell back. At Camp Bellville a very serve fight lasting from 9 a.m. till dark. I had two woundand 3 captured, Crossed Duck Riber the next day on Nov.25th. Fell back to Franklin, Brentwood and finally Nashville, the battles in front of Nashville we were engaged in on the 15th,16th,17th,18th,and 25th of Dec. I had but one Mortally wounded and 3 severely wounded from the 15th to the 25th and none killed. Gave up the pursuit of the Rebel Army Dec.28th 1864.
My Company left Eastport,Miss. on May 12th,1865 on board the Streamer Huntomman bound for St. Louis, Mo. where we arrived on the 16th of May, 1865. We're quartered at Benton Barracks, Mo. for 17days. Started for the Leavenworth, Kan. on the 28th of May, 1865,and arrived after a pleasant trip on the John D. (Pemas?) Ft. Leavenworth on the 3rd day of June, 1865. Left Ft. Leavenworth on the 14th, June 1865 bound forOmaha City, N.T. and arrived there on the 19th of June 1865 and are encamped near the town preparing for a trip on the Plains.
The company was last mustered on the Powder River D.T. had an engagement with the Indians on Sept.1st,4thm,5th,7th,8th, 11th and 12th but lost no men in these several engagements, marched sown Powder River to within 25 miles of the Yellowstone River,thence back upthe Powder to Fort Cannon a distance of 268 miles, thence to Fort Laramie 168 miles thence to Fort Mitchell D.T. 50 miles.
The company has been engaged incarrying and escorting the U.S. Mail between Fort Mitchell D. J.and Fort Laramie D. J. since Oct 28,1865 until Dec.1 three times per week each away since then twice a week.
Company has been used in escorting and carrying U.S. Mail betwixt Fort Laramie and Fort Mitchell D.J. since Dec.31,1865, date of last muster.
This co. was organized Feb. 8, 1864 Benton Bks. Mo. marched thru Memphis Tenn. where it arrived June 6,1864 was engaged with the enemy at Lawhenlong. Tenn. Nov.6,1864 at Franklin 30th of Nov.1864 at Nashville, Tenn. 15th day of Dec,1864 and followed Howel's retreating army until he crossed the Tenn river and was engaged 17th,18th,19th, and 25th of Dec.1864 and the Miss May 12,1865 for St. Louis Mo. and was there ordered to Ft. Leavenworth Kansas and was there sent of an expedition in Powder River Co. and arrived at Ft. Laramie D.J. Oact 4,1865. Thence to Ft. Leavenworthm, Kans. for muster out of service.

Hannah Coburn, dau. of Jesse Coburn, a Baptist deacon. He lived in
Chelmsford, it is believed, till after the death of his first wife.
About 1800, he went to Greene, ME., and married again. About 1815, they
removedto Ohio, resided first in Cincinnati; afterwards in Newport, Ky.

Andrew's will dated 19Apr1880 gave to his two daughters Elizabeth Newman and Anna Young twelve hundred dollars plus a two hundred dollar note held against their husbands. To George, was given six hundred dollars plus what he had already been given. And to Andrew was given the residence and the remainder of the estate after each grandchild had received ten dollars. Andrew was also charged with the care of his widow.
