General Notes: Child - William Goodwin
William testified in September 3, 1674 that he was 45 years old. The court case was between William Goodwin and a Lt. John Stedman. It dealt with Lt. Stedman taking hay which stood between stones and a brook. This case is documented in Volume 1 of Private Controversies, Connecticut State Library.
William was made freeman by the General Court on May 21, 1657. He was appointed chimney-viewer in 1662, 1665, and 1671. The town voted December 29, 1676 that William Goodwin should sweep the meeting house and ring the Bell Sabbaths and at public meetings of the town or side, and at 9 o'clock. He was to be paid 7 pounds annually. He also dug graves and warn of public meetings.
William's wife's maiden name and the date of the marriage is not known. His will lists his "loving wife, Susana." It is known that she had a sister Sarah Fruen who was betrothed to Thomas Greenhill. When William was about 40 years old, he testified about his acquaintance with Sarah Fruen's betrothed. He also testified the 2 were to be married when becoming of age, but Thomas died before marrying or consummating the marriage. This is documented in Private Controversies, Volume 2, Connecticut State Library.

General Notes: Husband - William Marston Sr
Taken from Marston Genealogy, compiled from book by Nathan W. Marston - 1888 (copied by Juanita (Marston) Coons in 1989)
Patriarch of the Hampton, NH branch, was born in England (tradition says in Yorkshire Co.) about A.D. 1592, and came to Salem, Massachusetts in 1634 with his family and probably two brothers, Robert & John, and resided there about three years, receiving a grant of land in 1636. (His brother-in-law was John Marston, Sr. -- married to Alice (?) and Thomas -- B. 1585 who was married to Margarat Saulter (Salter) according to the Marston Geneology.
He was a Quaker, and he suffered religious persecution both in England and in Hampton. He did NOT come from Yorkshire as thought by "The Marston Genealogy," by Nathan Washington Marston (1888) pgs. 6-8.
He resided in Salem, Essex, Mass. about three years, receiving a grant of land in 1636 from the General Court of Massachusetts, but soon after went to Newbury, for a short time; Thence, in October 1638, to Winnecumet, where he with 55 others settled on lands granted them by the General Court of Massachusetts and they called the place Hampton (Norfold Co.), after the English home of part of the settlers, and by this name it was incorporated. It is quite probable that his first wife lived until 1660. Then about 1662, when about seventy years old, he married a second time to Sabrina Page, aged 18 or 20, daughter of Robert and Lucia Page, of Ormesby, (Yarmouth) Norfold Co., England., by whom he had one daughter Tryphena.
(another source Holman, Mary Lovering, "Marston English Genealogy," (1929), pgs. 37-38, #9--states only 'He married secondly, probably about 1660, Sabina _____, who survived and married secondly, John Redman'.; Noyes/Libby/Davis, "Geneaolgical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire," (1939), pg. 462. states her name as SABINA HEMINS)
He was a kind hearted, benevelant, and godly man, and a member of the Quaker or Friends Church and suffered persecutions for his religious tenets. He often harbored and aided his distressed and persecuted brethren, for which Christian deeds he was robbed by exorbitant fines by the zealous and bigoted courts.
In Felt's:' Annals of New England' - I find this record:
"October 14, 1657 William Marston Petitioned the court of Hampton, that the fine of #15 may be remitted that had been imposed on him for keeping a paper and two books which inculcated Quaker doctrines."
He died in Hampton -- June 30, 1672 aged about 80 yrs. There were 5 children by the records.
(a daughter Ann Marston was born bet. 1623-1625. Record shows she died young.)

--Very little else is known about William Marston, Sr., other than that himself and his sons were mariners. He passed the remainder of his life in the vicinity of Hampton and died on the 30th day of June, 1672 at about the age of eighty years.--
Court records of Salem (Massachussetts Colony) disclose that on October 28th, 1643, John Marston, brother and Thomas Marston, nephew were appointed Administrators of Estate of Robert Marston (brother of William Marston, Sr.) whose heirs reside in England.

'William Marston, Senior Patriarch of the Hampton, New Hampshire branch of this family, came to Salem, Massachussetts Colony (now Salem, Maine) from Ormesby, Norfolk County, England, in the year of our Lord 1634, when he was about forty-two years of age. He was accompanied by his spouse, four children and his brothers Robert Marston and John Marston. He was born in 1592 (according to tradition in Yorkshire County, England). Married in England in 1615 to his first wife, whose given name was Sarah. No record has been found of her family name or station or life prior to her marriage, except that she died in Hampton about the year of 1660.
Between the years 1616 and 1630 inclusive -- in England, she bore William four children as follows--
Thomas Marston son born 1616
William Marston, Jr. son born 1622 -- married Rebecca Paige
John Marston son born 1626

Eldest son of William, Sr. -- was born in England (probably Yorkshire
Co)., about May or June 1617. Emigrated to New England.
Came to Salem, Massachusetts with his father, (William, Sr. b. ca 1592 -d. June 30, 1672) in 1634. Went with him to Newbury about 1637; thence to Hampton, NH., in October 1638, where he married Mary Estow (?Eastow) about 1647. She was a daughter of Wm. Estow (?Eastow), Esq. Being past 21 years of age, it was probable that he had a grant of land from General Court, as did the other pioneers; then he bought land of John Sanborn, May 25, 1645, and leased a house and lot from Robert Knoght, which formerly belonged to Robert Marston, October 5, 1653 (see Deeds). The provincial records show that he was a capable and highly esteemed citizen , and was prominent in the town's business affairs, and in all matters appertaining to the interests of the community. He died testate, in Hampton, Sept 28, 1690, aged 73 years, and about 7 mo.(See his will) He had nine children.

Shows-- born in the year 1616 and came to Salem, Newbury and Hampton with his parents. Being past twenty-one years of age when he came to Hampton with his parents in 1638, it is likely that he had land granted him by the General Court as did the other pioneers. The Marstons have been numerous in Hampton, and prominent in both civil and military affairs. William (1) was there in 1640, within two years of the first settlement. He brought with him from England his two sons Thomas and William. Thomas (1615-90) settled opposite the northeast corner of the Meetinghouse Green. This lot has remained in the family, being owned in 1892 by Jeremiah Marston. He married Mary, daughter of William Eastow. Their son Ephraim (1655-1742) married Abial, daughter of John Sanborn, who was a grandson of Rev. Stephen Bachiler, the founder of Hampton. This Ephraim was a brewer.

The best way for me to describe the relationship, is for
example if you have 6,000 people in your data base
that are connected via interlocking marriges, and
you find that you have a marriage that is interlocked into
one of my people in my data base, then they are related
via interlocking marriages, does not matter how distant.
The difference here is that the interlocking into my data
base would link to over 724,091 people via interlocking
marriages.

STILLWATER \endash Emmett R. Stevens, 88, passed away March 21, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Old Town, the son of Ray and Lulu (Mishou) Stevens. He attended school in Portland, Old Town and Lee, and graduated from Lee Academy in 1938. In 1939 he joined the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corps, Pierce Bridge, N.H. The Corps members helped to clean up the damage done by the hurricane of 1938. In 1941 he married Alvena Mary Wickett and worked on the construction of Dow Air Force Base, Bangor, and later became a civil service clerk-typist at Dow. Emmett was a World War II Navy veteran, 1942-46. He first served some of his enlisted time at the U.S. Naval Torpedo Station, Newport, R.I., and later served aboard the USS Titania (AKA13) in the South Pacific theater. Upon returning to civilian life, he attended and graduated from Husson College, Bangor and the University of Maine in Orono. He was a high school teacher and coach for 32 years, nine years at Lee Academy, 1949-1958 and for 23 years at Schenck High School, East Millinocket, 1958-1981. He was awarded the honor of Teacher of the Year and Coach of the Year for the state of Maine. During his years of teaching, he influenced his students and many of them continued to visit him during his time at the Maine Veterans' Home. It was rare to go anywhere with Emmett without running into an old friend. Emmett was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger days, and enjoyed playing golf after his retirement. A good day was finding more balls than he lost. After the death of Alvena in 1980, he married Francine Gordon and they enjoyed several years of golfing and winters in Florida. Some of Emmett's fondest memories were of spending time with friends and family at camp at Pleasant Lake. He loved to tell jokes, good and bad, and was a relentless story teller. He will be deeply missed by his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Vicki Stevens of Starks; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Alan Millar of Sandpoint, Idaho; four grandchildren, Guy Stevens and his wife, Paula, Jill Jordan and her husband, Brian, Emma and Riley Millar; three great-grandchildren, Marley, Cameron and Reed. Other survivors are Zelma and Ed Legere of Dewey, Ariz., Dawn and Ron LaPlante of Anchorage, Alaska; a stepson, Reginald Gordon of Carrabasset Valley; four step- grandchildren, Dawn Libby, Melanie True, Ashely and Kimberley Gordon; and three great-stepgrandchildren, Riley, Sophia and Emma; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Alvena (Wickett) Stevens; his second wife, Francine (Gordon) Stevens; a sister, Phyllis Wiley; and two brothers, Frank and Ray Steven

The best way for me to describe the relationship, is for
example if you have 6,000 people in your data base
that are connected via interlocking marriges, and
you find that you have a marriage that is interlocked into
one of my people in my data base, then they are related
via interlocking marriages, does not matter how distant.
The difference here is that the interlocking into my data
base would link to over 724,091 people via interlocking
marriages.
My hobby is working on interlocking marriages,to any
family surname that is in my data, and I exchange with
people to find them, and to assist them in finding lineage
that link into their families.
