She was born in Wisconsin and her parents were born in Maine. She had 4 children and all were still living. Also in the family were Charles H. Wagoner, 10 (Feb. 1890); Verne C. Wagoner, 7 (Jan. 1893); Fay P. Wagoner, 3 (Oct. 1896) and Hazel L. Wagoner, 1 (Nov. 1898); all born in Kansas.

Obituary - Mercer [Phillips County Review, Phillipsburg, Kansas, May 27, 1948]
Mariam Ardell Witham, daughter of William J. and Lovina Howard Witham, was born in Green county, Wis., on November 20, 1872, and passed away in Agra on May 3, 1948, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 13 days.
In 1874, the family came to Kansas and located in Crystal township in Phillips county, where Maye, as she has always been known, grew to womanhood. From this home she went to one of her own as the bride of Horace B. Wagoner in March 1889. To them five children were born. One daughter died in infancy.
With the exception of three years spent in Iowa they lived in this community until the husband and father passed away on September 12, 1901, and was laid to rest in the DuBois cemetery.
In August 1905, she was united in marriage to John Mercer of Agra, at Norton, Kans., and in September they established a home in Sherman county, Kansas. Three sons and one daughter were born to this union and then again, great sorrow came into her life when her husband died on her birthday, November 20, 1917. In February 1921, she came back to Agra where she kept a home as long as she was able to do so. For the past few years she has lived with her youngest daughter in Los Angeles, Calif., and with her sons in Wyoming. A few weeks ago, while at the home of her son, Charles at Blue Rapids, Kans., she became ill and because her greatest desire was to come back to Agra, her niece and nephew, Gladyce and Leo French, welcomed her and her children into their home where for the past two weeks everything possible was done for her comfort and care until the end came.
Although her life had many hardships, she found joy in the beauty of flowers and in the other beauties of nature. Especially did she love the spring time and all the little things which interested her children. Many years ago she became a member of the United Brethren church and lived a life true to her faith. Her Bible was her daily comfort and guide.
Of her own generation, she is survived by a brother, Ralph Witham of Agra, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Etta Witham of Kensington. Her parents and two brothers, Fred and Moses Witham and two infant sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Also a step-son, Fred Mercer, passed away four years ago at Portland, Ore.
Surviving her are eight children, Charles Wagoner, Blue Rapids, Kans.; Vern Wagoner, Longview, Wash.; Faye Wagoner Cooley, Manhattan, Kans.; Hazel Wagoner Peterson, Penrose, Colo.; Jay Mercer, Billings, Mont.; Ernest Mercer, Worland, Wyo.; John Mercer, Cody, Wyo.; and Esther Mercer Petty, Los Angeles, Calif.; two step-children, Elsie Mercer Jupe, Goodland, Kans., and Lloyd Mercer of Denver, Colo. Also surviving her are 29 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 5, at 2 p. m. at the Christian church in Agra with Rev. F. M. McDonald in charge. Mrs. Harold Scanlan and James Witham sang the beautiful hymns with Mrs. Howard DuBois at the piano. Pallbearers were Carl Freeland, Keith Wagoner, Warren, Osgood and Gerald Witham and Eugene French. The flowers were carried by Mrs. Floyd Beedy, Mrs. Carleton Munyon, Mrs. Millard Sims and Barbara, Mrs. Ivan DuBois, Mrs. Hazel Sargent, Mrs. Duane Dillon and Miss Bonnie Witham. Interment at West Cedar cemetery.

Chapter XIII Water Street, Arch to Race
---------No. 57, in 1793, and adjoins the industrial block and pump-maker depot of Isaac Wainwright. These premises run through to the wharf and the water itself, for at the foot of his yard there was a dock for the soaking and safe keeping of logs, a very sink of mortality to those who ventured to run their role from wharf to wharf, a memorable fact to your author, who, but for the timely hand of a larger boy, and the extra capillary of his head, would certainly not have been here now to tell a tale of days and things lang syne. Humbly, but vastly important to maritime requirements, the saw, the auger, and the chisel noised their daily services to shape and bore a pump, or fit a sheeve and block to the hand of a inquiring mariner. Mr. Wainwright was perhaps the most popular block and pump maker of his day. His son Jonathan succeeded him in the business, and continued it for many years. Thence he removed to Kensington,and establishe DA saw-mill and board yard, and at the same time acting as President of the Kensington Bank. He resigned the presidency creditable to his services, and retired to his more active business calling, which with his sons, he yet industriously pursues. In this connection I take occasion to state that his brother William was the persecuted President of the Com mercial Bank: for upon investigation he was honorably acquitted. Isaac Wainwright, the sire, died in July, 1844, in his eighty-third year.
Chapter XIX Front Street, east side Race to Arch
Passing a boarding-house and the shoemaker shop of Richard Miles of No. 72, we came to a nest of frames of two stories -----------. Isaac Wainwright bounds these frames by a very respectable three-story brick; it was of modern appearance and character in 1800, and from the steps down the best and handsomest house. Mr Wainwright was a respectable member of the Society of Friends; a good citizen and estimable neighbor.
The Wainwrigfhts came to America from England two years after William Penn.

General Notes: Husband - John Wainwright
John Wainwright (1612-1684) was a landowner of the Warwick Tribe in Bermuda. He was on the Governor's Council. He may have been the son of another John Wainwright who, according to Nicholas Wainwright (Rin 536), seems to have received a gift of 101 acres in 1609 from the Virginia Company and who, (or another of the same name) was a member of the Somers Island and Company in 1623-24. The first settlement in the Bermudas, or Somers Islands, was established by Sir George Somers in 1609. In 1612 the Bermudas were granted to an off-shoot of the Virginia Company, which consisted of 120 persons half of whom proceeded to the islands.

Jonathan was baptised in the Presbyterian Church in 1730 but was later known to be a Quaker. His profession was hatter . In a letter dated 7/26/1902 to his cousin who is not clearly identified Chandler P. Wainwright states that Jonathan was a Captain of the city guard in 1777 citing the Book of Pennsylvania's Line Malitia. In History of Philadelphia De partment of City Government Pg. 625 it is stated that Capt. Jonathan Wainwright was mustered out (the words mustered out are hard to read in the second hand account I saw and are guessed at here) Nov. 12 1777. The name of the Colonel of his battalion is mentioned but I can't read it. The book itself should be consulted. T.E.W. Philadelphia was occupied by the British Army September 1777 to June 1778.

Millinocket - Cora E. Walsh, 82, passed away at a local healthcare facility, Oct. 12, 2000, surrounded by her family after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born in Pattagumpus, the daughter of Norman and Flora (Boynton) Waite.
Cora will always be remembered for her beautiful singing voice and the unconditional love she gave her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph E. Walsh Sr.; five sisters, Pauline Murray, Doris King, Eleanor Albert, Gertrude Griffin, and Lera McLaughlin; and two brothers, Norman Waite and William Waite. She will be sadly missed by her son,
Gary A. Walsh and his wife, Bonnie of Mattawamkeag, Ralph E. Walsh jr and his wife, Lynn, Michael D. Walsh and his wife, Patricia of Millinocket; and daughters, Roberta J. Madden and her husband, Bernard of Millinocket, Karen Shank and her husband, Todd of Exeter; two brothers, Edwin Waite and his wife, Evelyn of Millinocket and Jack Waite and his wife, Jane of East Millinocket; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

General Notes: Husband - Nelson John Walbridge
Note: From "History of the North Country" 1932, Laudon - Nelson J. Walbridge was born at Belmont, NY Dec 25, 1846, the son of Wayne Walbridge who was a native of Sharon Vt. and a prominent pioneer of Northern New York. He came here about 1833 and settled on a tract of 200 acres, which he improved as a homestead. Nelson J. Walbridge was one of eight children, being the youngest. He was reared and educated at Belmont and also attended Franklin Academy at Malone. He taught school for several terms and also was a farmer. He was married in 1868 to Miss Mary Louise Howe, the daughter of Earl George and Mary A. (Lamberton) Howe of Belmont Center, NY. To this union were born four children; 1. Early Wayne, born Nov 23, 1875, died Dec 23, 1879; 2. Karl Howe, the subject of this sketch; 3. Ralph William born Nov 12, 1883, married Earl Cox, who is cashier of the Whitewater Commercial and Savings Bank of Whitewater, Wis. Mary Louise (Howe) Walbridge died Jan 16, 1889 and is buried at Belmont Center, NY. Nelson J. Walbridge married (second) on Sept 9, 1890 Mrs Clara Weed Nokes, the widow of Edward Nokes and daughter of William Weed of Chateaugay NY. She died Feb 5, 1931 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Angie Nokes Stillwell of Maryville, Mo and is buried there. Nelson Walbridge died Aug 3, 1919 and is buried in Belmont Center Cemetery.
