January 10, 2010 of Mr. Harry Wakelin of West Royalty, age 78 years.
Beloved husband of Stella (nee Ford) Wakelin, and dear father of Darlene Wakelin,
Janette (Laurie) Paquet, Judy (Chris) Hucz, Cindy (Norman) Birt, Kent (Jeanette)
Wakelin, and Shawn (Patricia) Wakelin.
He is also survived by six loving grandchildren Alicia and Jillian Birt, Chad and
Cory Paquet, Emily and Sarah Wakelin, brother Raymond "Bud" (Matilda) Wakelin,
sister Joyce Maye (Austin deceased), brothers-in-law John Matheson and Rollie Ford,
several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Eva (Bryenton) Wakelin, sisters Ruby
(George) Jay and Elsie Matheson.
Resting at the Cutcliffe Funeral Home from where the funeral service will be held in the
Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in the family plot at Sherwood Cemetery.

Clifton walked the railtracks from Frankfort to Univ. of Maine,
where he took a boarding room, found work and was in school
between 1915-1917, and studying ROTC. While in ROTC he met his
wife, and was activated for Military Duty.Mr. and Mrs Hamm met
at the University of Maine. He later left the UOM and went to
Harvard after the war, where he graduated, and later became
Superintendant of the Fairfield School System. Fairfield, never
accepted Kindergarden because of the Harvard teaching and field
study at Wheelock College, which thought that small school
systems would not be able to absorb the costs. He believed in
Jr. Primary. He was a principal at High School, before the
WWII. Served and was stationed in Japan. Mrs. Hamm, and son

William Johnson was born about 1500. He married first, about 1528, Ali
ce Foreflode, daughter of John Foreflode, a hatter and a freeman of Canter
bury. By this marriage William Johnson became a freeman of Canterbury in 1
528. She died and he remarried to Ellzabeth who was buried at Saint Geor
ge s 17 May 1575. Her burial is recorded twice. In one entry the record sa
ys, Elizabeth, wife of William Johnson", but in the second entry the wor
ds "Grandfather to William Johnson parrish clarke", have been added. Willi
am Johnson theparrish clerk and grandson probably added these words abo
ut 1598 when the register was copied. William Johnson was buried at Sai
nt George's, Canterbury, 9 June 1575.

mably died shortly thereafter. A brief abstract of his will follows:

Altho no exact ages are given in his will, his two daughters were und
er 20. These were his only children and his mother was living. All these f
acts indicate that he was a relatively young man and suggest that the t
wo girls were infants. Thus, Joan was perhaps 2 or 3 which would make h
er the right age to have been the wife of John Johnson. Also, of the sever
al Humphrey wills of that age and locale, no other one named a daughter Jo
an.
The year following his marriage, John Johnson was made a freeman of Ca
nterbury,by right of his having been born a citizen of that city. He w
as a churchwarden of Saint George's in 1582 and 1583.

Pickles whohad captured the British armed vessel on Lake Ponchartrain.
"We whose names or marks are here unto set and subscribed, being settlersand inhabitants on Lake Ponchartrain between the Bayou La Combe and RiverTanchipaho, do hereby acknowledge ourselves to be natives as well as trueand faithful subjects the the United Independent States of North America.An whereas on the tenth day of last month, William Pickles, captain ofthe navy of the said States, did arrive in this lake and made prize ofthe English armed sloop, West Florida, who had kept possession of thelake for near two years before, and the said William Pickles, Esquire,did on the twenty first of the same month, land some of his people, andtake possession of this settlement and gave us all the protection againstindians and others that his force would admit of. and suffered us toremain on our possessions till further orders; we, therefore, considerourselves belonging to the said States, and are willing to remain thereand enjoy our property and privileges unter them, the said United States.
