Cornelius Davis (1653-1730) lived in Haverhill and marriedSarah Elizabeth Hilton in 1688. He was called to fight inthe Narragansett Wars and for that service, he receivedfrom the General Court a grant of a tract of land locatedin what is now known as West Stafford, Connecticut. Itsnorthern boundary was what is now the Massachusetts stateline and its western boundary was that part of Enfieldwhich later became known as Somers, Connecticut. AlthoughCornelius never removed to his granted lands, he deededthem to his son Cornelius, the second of his three sons. Inhis later years, he lived in Rowley, Massachusetts, anddied there in 1730.

...Ralph grew up on the farm in Burlington, Maine with his extended family including his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandparents, sisier and young brother. Early in life he developed a great love for the outdoors and his sister remebers her big brother as a great fishman. He attened the Long Ridge one room school house as time permitted until 1898. We find in the Burlington town report of 1897 and 1898 that he earned money by doing janitorial work at the school,including cleaning the floors and stacking the wood. Since his mother and both sisters taught at the school and the "school marm" was usally boarded at the Jipson farm it would seem that he did recieve some lessons in the 3R's at home also.
