Daniel Abbott, son of Jonathan, drew Lot 1, Range 1, East side (Andover, O xford, Maine, USA) for his farm (where Peabody Stevens now lives, 1897) wh ere he lived until his death. He married Lydia Ripley of this town. He w as different from the rest of his family, very slow in his movements and h is speech, and had but little energy or calculation; he was honest and obl iging as a neighbor, but very poor most of his life; had to receive some a id from the town before his boys were grown up. He had a pretty good far m, and put up some small buildings, but had no faculty to live or make mon ey; took no interest in town affairs or politics, but was fond of readi ng and music and taught the first singing school here which was kept in t he old Meeting-house, but did not exactly understand the science. After g etting his school to singing, he would go out-of-doors to hear them sin g, thinking it sounded better than when close to the singers. Many laugha ble stories are told of him. At one time, he with others, were rafting bo ards down the stream in April. Each man had a raft. His companions reque sted him to stop when he came to a certain tree that hung over the rive r. When he came to the tree he caught hold of it, but the raft did not s top but left him hanging to the tree with his hands, near the center of t he river. He had to drop from the tree into the river and came near peris hing before he got out. At another time he, with several young men, we re at work cutting the road from this town to Errol, Coos, New Hampshir e, USA One evening they got into a frolic in the camp. Mr. Abbott, not l iking it, left the camp, went to the opposite side of the fire and took ho ld of a small tree standing near, leaning back against it and his ba ck to the fire. When discovered he was sound asleep. An axe was got a nd the tree was cut at one blow, causing him to fall into the fire. He w as badly burned before he could be got out. Many other such stories are t old of him. (Copied from the Andover Memorials by Agnes Blake Poor).

Daniel Abbott was a Methodist minister, but also followed farming to a great extent.
Some time before the birth of his son, Ezra, he was injured by a falling tree and rendered incapable of performing farm work. He then learned the pump trade, which he continued until his sons were old enough to work upon a farm, when he bought and cleared a timber tract and later owned and operated a sawmill run by water power.
In 1849 he moved to Gandy county, IL, and took government land there.
In 1854 he went to Hardin County, lA, and later settled in Saline county, NE.
He died in Harlan County, NE, at the age of nearly ninety years.
General Notes: Child - Ezra Stones Abbott
E. S. Abbott was the Lawyer in Leland, IL, who tutored J. Ivor Montgomery in his preparations / "reading for the Bar", during the years 1865-1869. J. Ivor was admitted to the Illinois Bar in October of 1969.
The middle name of the third child of Ezra and Eliza Springstead Abbott was Ivor (born about 1867), most likely influenced by the presence of the Lawyer's pupil at the time.
The first daughter, Evelyn, is said in this biography to have lived until age 15. However, she is also said to have lived until only age 5 and to be buried in the Springstead Family Burial Ground in Serena Township, LaSalle County, IL, which is just south of Leland and in the immediate area of Eliza's family and family roots. Her death at age 5 would have been just prior to the family moving west.

CHAPTER XXII
BIOGRAPHICAL
ABBOTT, EZRA STONES, deceased, pioneer of Crete, NE, was born in Bradford County, PA, Mar. 23, 1833, son of Daniel Lazedel and Caroline (Turner) Abbott. The family originally emigrated from England prior to the Revolutionary War.
Daniel Abbott was a Methodist minister, but also followed farming to a great extent. Some time before the birth of his son Ezra he was injured by a falling tree and rendered incapable of performing farm work. He then learned the pump trade, which he continued until his sons were old enough to work upon a farm, when he bought and cleared a timber tract and later owned and operated a sawmill run by water power. In 1849 he moved to Grundy County, IL, and took government land there. In 1854 he went to Hardin County, lA, and later settled in Saline County, NE. He died in Harlan County, NE, at the age of nearly ninety years.
Ezra S. Abbott attended the common schools in his boyhood, in Illinois (1838-1849), and when in Iowa taught a term in the first district school of Hardin County (1854-1855). After the death of his mother (1855) he returned to Illinois and attended College at Wheaton for two years (1856-57), and then entered the law department of the University of Chicago. After a two year course (1857-1859) he was admitted to the bar (1859), and, settling in La Salle County, IL, he began the practice of his profession at Leland (1859), a small town on the Burlington R. R. He remained there until 1873, when he moved to Saline County, Neb., and settled at Pleasant Hill, then the county seat.
He was married in La Salle County, IL, Sept. 3, 1861, to Eliza, oldest daughter of David and Eliza (Lett) Springstead. Her father was a wealthy farmer in that county, and her mother was a sister of Thomas and Benjamin Lett who were prominent in the Patriotic War in Canada. To this union were born eight children:
Guy Lett,
Evelyn, who died at the age of fifteen,
Lysle Ivor,
Raymond J.,
Claude Leroy,
Ruth and Clyde, who died in infancy
Francis Huber
In 1878, Mr. Abbott moved to Crete to educate his children in Doane College, and this continued to be his home until his death.
The oldest son, Guy Lett Abbott, was reared by his grandfather Springstead and educated at Ottawa, IL. After his graduation he returned to Nebraska and studied law with his father. Though admitted to the bar, he did not practice his profession, but devoted his time to contracting and general investing. He married Elizabeth, daughter of John Lanham, and later removed to Illinois, where he has charge of his grandfather's farm. Lysle I. Abbott (q.v.) is a prominent voting lawyer of Omaha, NE.
Claude and Raymond were well advanced in Doane College when the Spanish war broke out, and both hastened to enlist.
Claude became a sergeant in Griggsby's Troop K, went to Chickamauga, and became very ill of fever. He finally recovered his health and resumed his College work, graduating from Doane College in 1899 and entering the University of Nebraska at Lincoln the following year.
Raymond entered Co. F, 1st Nebraska, and was ordered to the Philippines, where he saw active service. After the fall of Manila he was discharged on account of illness and returned home. He resumed his law studies and was admitted to the bar in 1900. Soon after his return from the war he published a little book entitled "The First Nebraska, in Camp and Field," which gives an interesting view of the life and trials of a private soldier in the ranks.
Francis Huber, the youngest son, is developing his natural taste for farming and stock raising.
Ezra S. Abbott invested from year to year in farm lands which rapidly increased in value. In early life Mr. Abbott was a republican, but later decided that the democratic platform more nearly represented the needs of the country. In his later years he was a bimetallist and made the first free silver speech in his county. Mr. Abbott was a member of the board of education two terms when a resident of Pleasant Hill, and in 1875 was chosen county judge.
Ezra S. Abbott died on Nov. 5, 1903, after a lingering and painful illness, at his home in Crete.

The first record of land being sold in what we now know as Upton, was a de ed from “Houndsfield” in England to Enoch and Farnum Abbott of Andover dat ed Dec. 8, 1825. For $100 the brothers bought 100 acres on the north si de of Cambridge River “Including water privilege” to operate a sawmill a nd a gristmill. They were required to keep the mills in good order for t he settlers for eight years.

In 1825 Enoch Abbott and his brother, Farnum, of Andover bought 100 acr es of land in Letter B (Upton, Oxford, Maine, USA) from George Hounsfie ld of Sheffield, England, the deed being dated December 28, 1825. This de ed included a water privilege, "provided the saw mill and grist mill on sa id land was kept in good repair for the use of the settlers for eight year s".
Umbagog House - The home of Enoch Abbot, built between 1825 and 1829 was p robably the first frame house built in Letter B (Upton Maine, USA). It w as located near the dam he had build for his first grist mill. In 18 47 he was succeeded by his son, William Abbot who enlarged the house and n amed it the Umbagog House.
He built the saw mill and cleared a fine farm. In his later life he was k nown as the Father of the Town, being called by all "Uncle Enoch." He h ad three sons and a daughter. (NOTE: other places in this book 'Histo ry of Upton, Oxford, Maine, USA so another Daughter) Upon his death he a nd his wife were buried in the Abbott Cemetery.
In the Andover memorials, Poor writes, "Mr Enoch Abbott was an honest ve ry industrious man, kind in his family and to his friends, accumulated con siderable property, was much respected here and in Upton, Oxford, Maine, U SA. He opened his house for summer borders in the latter part of his liv e. His wife. daughter of John Howe of Rumford, was like one of the mothe rs of Israel."
History of Township Letter B (Upton, Oxford, Maine, USA) by Charles Err ol Heywood
Enoch Abbott, son of Jonathan, lived with his parents during his minori ty and several years afterward. He married and bought Lot 18, Range 1, Ea st side, put up buildings and made many improvements, and lived there unt il 1817, when he sold out the farm to his brother, Farnum, and moved to Le tter B., now Upton, Oxford, Maine, USA, where he put up a saw and grist mi ll also good buildings and cleared up a good farm there, and lived there t ill his death. Mr. Enoch Abbott was an honest, very industrious man, ki nd in his family and to his friends; accumulated considerable property w as much respected here and in Upton, Oxford, Maine, USA. He opened a summ er boarding house for summer boarders in the latter part of his live. H is wife, Lois Howe, Daughter of John Howe of Rumford, Oxford, Maine, US A, was like one of the Mothers of Israel. (Copied from The Andover Memori als by Agnes Blake Poor).
The 1850 Census had Enoch Abbott as living in Township Letter B (Upton, Ox ford, Maine, USA) as a Miller and 67 years of age.
FIRST TRADERS
The first traders and settlers followed water routes to the area. By 17 93 a Jocob Abbott of Brunswick, started building the COO'S road that open ed this area to settlers. By 1796, he had the road opened to Andover, Mai ne, USA, and by 1800, it was open through Grafton to Milan, Coos, New Hamp shire, USA Four years later, the road had been changed from Andov er to go over B Hill to Errol, Coos, New Hampshire, USA The name COOS ca me from two Indian words, "Coo-Ash Anks", the name of a tribe of Indians f rom the Rangeley Lakes region, Coo-Ash meaning Pine, and Anks signifying p eace.
Nihal Hoyt was the first real settler in Letter "B" or Upton. He to ok up a farm and built a house on East "B" Hill. In 1824 Hiram Goud settl ed on Mill Road. In September, 1824, ENOCH ABBOTT was granted land for th ree separate farms on condition that he erect and maintain a saw mill a nd grist mill at the falls at the mouth of the Cambridge River, ENOCH ABBO TT became known as the "Father of the Town". For many years, the Abbott f amilies were the industrial and civic leaders of the town.
Between 1830 and 1860, settlement was rapid, and by 1860, the town had a p opulation of 220 people. Most families were engaged in farming. The Ba ck Street area had the most and best farms, since that land was the lea st rocky. East B. Hill area also had several farms. That area was settl ed mostly by the Fuller families and their relatives. About World War I t ime, that area was abandoned and the families moved to Upton Village, whe re Elsie Fuller, wife of Colon Fuller, still lives.

Enoch Abbott b. Sept 21, 1782 and having died Nov 28, 1857 in Upton, Oxfor d, Maine.

THE VALUE OF A COMPASS
By Mark Tapley
We have often admonished people who frequent the unbroken forests, especia lly those unaccustomed to hunting and camping, of the safety in havi ng a pocket compass which can be obtained at the cost of a few cents, a nd may ofttimes gave the possessor much trouble and even save life. We a re cognizant of several instances where people, even old foresters have be come bewildered, in which case they always travel in a circle, and were sa ved by the instinct of domestic animals, which is seldom at fault.
It was some sixty years ago, before the Berlin Mills Company monopolized t he timber throughout the Lake county that Enoch Abbott, john West and Jose ph Chase, three prominent citizens of Upton, then known as Letter B, start ed on fine winter’s morning each with two pairs of stalwart oxen laden wi th hay and bound for the loggers’ camps situated on the Swift Diamond stre am, a tributary of the Magalloway river. The sledding was fine and the te ams in good heart. They arrived at their destination and disposed of the ir loads before noon.
At one o’clock they started for home but long before they reached the La ke (Umbagog) the sky became overcast and soon developed into a thick south easterly snow storm. The old track was soon obscured and the blinding sto rm completely obscured the distant shore. But on they drove thinki ng to reach the opposite shore before dark. Every few minutes fresh trac ks were Discerned in the dim twilight. These they thought to be part of t he old track leading off the lake. This would give them fresh courage a nd serve to quicken their pace. Darkness came on and still no sign of lan d.
Chase began to lag behind but finally caught up with his sled, threw himse lf down complaining of drowsiness and concluded to take a nap. The othe rs well knew this to betoken the sleep that know no waking, so they combi ned to rouse him if possible. But shaking and warning of the impending da nger was of no avail. So like the old man with the saucy boy in the app le tree they resorted to force.
West applied the brad, then laid his goad the length of his back, at the s ame time is premptory tones commanding him to get up and walk or he wou ld take his pelt. Chase with temper at fever heat leaped from his recumbe nt position and for a few minutes a fierce fisticuff ensued. Chase w as by this time well roused and after due explanation peace was restored a nd they resumed their journey.
They soon came to more fresh tracks, when West ordered a halt. “Now,” sa id he, “we have all this time been playing fool. We are beyond a doubt tr aveling in a circle like all bewildered people. These cattle know their w ay and can keep their course much better than we can. Now I propose to tu rn them loose and let them take the lead. They are tired and hungry and w ill make the nearest habitation.” All agreed and they poor tired creatur es were soon set at liberty. The master ox belonging to West with a low c ow bossy call to the others started off followed by the entire herd.
As it proved the ox knew best. On they plodded for a half hour or more wh en the leader began to low and quicken his pace. “Good!” exclaimed Wes t, “we are near some habitation. Old Star never tells lies.”
And they found themselves in Joe Stone’s dooryard. Joe hearing the l ow of the oxen came out to bid them welcome. The house though small wou ld accommodate the men but how about the oxen. A small log hovel for h is cow was all the out-house he possessed. A stack of hay stood near t he hovel to which the oxen quickly made way. Joe came out, mounted the ho vel, thence the haystack, undid the fastening at the top and completely b uried the oxen in hay. “There,” said he, “they are all right for to-nigh t, now for supper.”
After a hearty supper of moose and deer steak, they looked to their ox en to find them all resting on the soft hay, each ox beside his mate. Ne xt morning the cattle made their way to the sleds, were yoked and sped f or home…

Farnum Abbott son of Jonathan, came to Andover, Oxford, Maine, USA with h is father at 12 years of age, and lived with him until he was 21. Th en he went to Boston, Massachusetts, USA in 1800 and went into business f or himself. He married Anne Hayden of Cambridgeport, Middlesex, Massachus etts, USA in 1809; moved to Andover, Oxford, Maine, USA in 1812 or 1813 wi th two children. He went into the farm with his father and lived on it wi th him until the spring of 1817 when he moved onto Lot No. 18, Range 1, Ea st side, where he lived until the present time (1860). Being very smart a nd active for one of that age. Mr. Abbott has been an industrious, good f armer and good citizen, and improved his farm very much, added to the buil dings, etc., and raised a large family of children. He lost his house wi th most of its contents by a fire in 18__, but soon, rebuilt it with the h elp of his neighbors and friends, which was very gladly given and receive d. As a man he was industrious and prudent, a good farmer and a good citi zen, held several town offices and was at one time a Captain of a milit ia company. Was not as pleasant in his family as many, and very set in h is views. His wife had a hard struggle with life. (he lived to be ninety- five). (Copied from The Andover Memorials by Agnes Blake Poor).
An Account of Farnum Abbott, presumably by some relative, found among Silv anus Poor's papers, says, "He joined the Masonic Fraternity at an early pe riod, the precise date cannot be ascertained owing to the fact that his pa pers were destroyed by fire when his house burned, but as among the pape rs saved was a notice to attend a lodge meeting in 1811, it must have be en previous to that date. (March 18, 1811)
"To those who knew Mr. Farnum Abbott personally there is no need of recomm endation or praise. We have before us a letter written to him from Massac husetts, USA in 1821 in which the writer refers to the fact that previo us to his departure from town he had been highly honored and respected, w as an active and energetic member of the _____, Captain of the military co mpany, and an officer of the Masonic Lodge of which he was a member. It s peaks in terms of highest commendation of his good and sterling qualiti es of mind and heart. A single anecdote in illustration of his charact er may not be out of place here. At the time of the Embargo he differ ed in politics from his employers. They were anxious to secure his vote a nd used argument and persuasion to induce him to change his opinions. M r. Farnum Abbott had made up his mind after due deliberation, and would n ot change. Finding argument in vain they used threats, and finally told h im they would no longer employ him if he voted against them. "Very Well ," said Mr. Abbott, "I can get work elsewhere, but my principles are not f or sale." Qualities like these are not overlooked and Mr. Farnum Abbott b ecame a leading spirit in the town. He neither courted nor avoided respon sibility, but was always ready to bear his share of the public burdens, a nd in every position he was called upon to fill he discharged its duties w ith honesty and fidelity. He filled various offices in the town in a mann er wholly satisfactory to his constituents. He was one of the first move rs in the Atlantic and Saint Lawrence Railroad enterprise, and was chairm an of the first meeting ever held in favor of this project, and when it w as finally decided to construct the road, Mr. Farnum Abbott freely gave ti me and personal effort in making surveys and pushing forward the wor k. He never deceived an enemy nor betrayed a friend, and his work w as as good as his bond." (Copied from The Andover Memorials by Agnes Bla ke Poor).
Was living with his wife in Andover, Oxford, Maine, USA at the time of t he 1850 Census and was a Farmer.

"With his three sons, emigrated from England, and settled in Rowley, Ess ex County, Massachusetts, USA, where he died in 1647. Nothing is kno wn of his wife."
Exxex Antiquarian "Abbot Genealogies"
David Hackett Fischer, author of "Albion's Seed: Four British Folkwa ys in America", 1989, Oxford University Press, states that (pg.34)"...t he parish of Rowley, in Yorkshire, whence the Reverend Ezekiel Rogers brou ght a large part of his congregation to Massachusetts, USA, where they fou nded another community called Rowley in the New World."
The town of Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts, USA was founded April 1639. Geo rge Abbott arrived there about 1642.
George Abbott came to Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts, USA, circa 1639, wi th his family to join the company of Rev. Ezekiel Rogers. Rogers was a mi nister in Rowley, Yorkshire, England who was forced to leave in 1638 for r efusing to read "that accursed book that allowed sports on God's holy Sabb ath, the Lord's day. I was suspended, and, by it an other sad signes of t he times, driven with many of my hearers into New England." The tra ct of land laid out to Rogers' group was purchased for the benefit of t he entire company. Those who could not contribute to the purchase ( 28 in number) were given 1 1/2 acre home lots; others were given lo ts in proportion to their contributions; George Abbott received a 2 ac re lot in 1643, as did 22 of the 31 contributors. When Rogers first arriv ed in Salem in 1638 his party consisted of 20 families, during that wint er their numbers grew to around 60. Early Rowley records no longer exis t. Records of the identity of George's wife have not been found. But som eone's GEDCOM File records her as Mary Hill. Another record cites Geor ge and Mary Hill as coming over on the Mayflower, but not on a later tri p, not the first one. A record of Early Settlers of Rowley, Essex, Massac husetts, USA says that George had 2 sons named Thomas, one called Sr. (di ed w/o children in 1659), and Jr, who married Sarah Stewart. There was pr ecedent then for two children of same name.

JOHN ABBOTT and his wife came here to Andover, Oxford, Maine, USA with h is father and mother May 5, 1794, and chose for their farm Lot No. 2, We st side or the second lot from Rumford, Oxford, Maine, USA line, whe re he lived until his death. He had a large and good farm, and was a pret ty good farmer. He was a cabinet and chair maker by trade, but did not wo rk much at that business except in the winter, when he spent most of his t ime at it. He managed his farm well, set out an orchard early, and wh en in the prime of life was in good circumstances. They had a large famil y, and were pretty well instructed and posted up in public affairs. He a nd his family were great readers. As a citizen, good, but did not ta ke an active part in town affairs. As a companion and a father he was kin d, affectionate, and social, enjoyed company and loved to make those arou nd him happy. He built the first cider mill in this town of Andover, Oxfo rd, Maine, USA in the year 18_, which was the only one for several year s. As a neighbor, he was kind and obliging, He became embarrassed in h is financial affairs in his old age by becoming security for his son, Jose ph, who went into trade in this town in 1829, and failed in 1830, and ca me near having to sell his farm to pay the debts. He died of a ruptur e. He was a smart, active man till his death, and was sick but a few day s. Mr Benjamin Hall, a descendant, ran the farm in 1897. JONATHAN ABBOTT came to Andover, Oxford, Maine, USA from Andover, Essex, M assachusetts, USA and began work on his farm in 1790 and moved his fami ly here in 1791. He was one of the original proprietors of the town, a nd drew Lot 11, Prince, Prince Edward Island, Canada, West side of the riv er, where he lived until his death. he was very industrious and devoted m ost of the labor to his farm, except in winter when he went to work at h is trade as a shoemaker. He did not engage much in public business, not e ven in the affairs of the town. He managed his farm well and when in the p rime of life was in easy circumstances. As a man he was fond of compan y, but was unsocial in his family, reserved and austere, as a neighbor, ki nd and good, so long as he felt friendly; if otherwise sour, morose, and u nobliging. He was in the habit of running into his neighbors very often a nd telling anecdotes for a short time, of which he had many. He was ve ry blunt in his speech and bold in asking questions, particularly of stran gers, in the last part of his life. His sons found it difficult to live w ith him. He was generous in his feelings and did much to support the mini stry here. He was a member of the Church, and I believe died a good ma n. Ruth (Bragg) his wife, was a very modest benevolent, unassuming wom an and an excellent housewife, always pleasant and eager to make those abo ut her happy. Came to Andover, Oxford, Maine, USA in 1792 and selected for his farm L ot No._, West side, the lot south of his brothers. He was a cooper by tra de but did not do much at that business here. He had a large and good fa rm but was not much of a farmer nor manager. He lived here several year s, sold out, and moved to Norway, Oxford, Maine, USA. He did not succe ed very well there, and after living there five years he came back to h is old farm in Andover, Oxford, Maine, USA where he and his wife spent t he remainder of their days. As a man he was very different from his broth er Jonathan. He was kind and social in his feelings, and to his family, v ery quick and passionate, but not revengeful, always appearing to be sor ry after giving vent to his feelings. He read but little, and his litera ry acquirements were very small. He never interested himself in politic s, or even in town affairs. I do not know of his ever holding a town offi ce. He was very industrious and economical. I would here say that Mr. Ph illip Abbott was in the habit of sleeping whenever he was not at work, whe ther in the house or out-of-doors, he could not sit down at any time witho ut dropping asleep, and he was frequently known to go to sleep and drop h is tools while at work; this was one reason why he did not read mor e. He had a large family but did not do much for their improvement or edu cation, in fact, they grew up without much home instruction. The family w ere rather rude. As a father and companion he was kind, affectionate, a nd social when awake. He lived well, but did not accumulate much propert y. He was a member of the church here and a very constant attendant at ch urch. Elizabeth Fry ( ), his wife, was quiet, inoffensive woman without m uch energy or cultivation. As a companion and mother, kind and affectiona te, but not with much family government. She was very punctual managing h er household affairs. (Copied from the Andover Memorials by Agnes Blake P oor)

ENOS ABBOTT son of Jonathan, moved here to Andover, Oxford, Maine, USA wi th his father, mother, and wife May 5, 1792, and selected Lot No. 1_, Ran ge 1, West side of the river, for his farm. He was a very industrious, ha rd working man. Cleared up a large farm, built good buildings and rais ed up a large family of children. He was very fond of driving an Ox-tea m, and spent most of his time with his sons in the winter season at loggin g, but did not accumulate much property. He did not feel the importan ce of educating his children as many do. He exchanged farms in 18_ with E noch Adams, and moved to Lot No. 8, Range 2, East side. (Olney Burgess own ed in it 1897). While there he made many improvements on the farm, add ed to the buildings and farm, but not to his property. He lost his wi fe in 1828 which in a measure broke him up; then he had a very expensive f amily that did not regard his interests or feelings. He gave up his fa rm to his son Farnum, 22 married a second wife and moved on to Lot No. 1 2, Range 1, on Kimball's Mile (Wyman's Hill, so-called). As a man, Mr Abb ott was unsocial in his family and did not strive to make home agreeab le to them or his wife. He was fond of strong drink but did not often g et intoxicated, fond of being away from his home with his ox team. Read b ut very little, and took but very little interest in town affairs or polit ics. His wife, (Sarah Farnum), was a smart and industrious woman, but lea rned early to submit to her husband, and did not cultivate that fine feeli ng so becoming a mother. the result was a rough uneducated family. She w orked hard and saw much trouble before her death. For his second wi fe he married Widow Naomi Lund, from Dunstable, New Hampshire, USA (Massac husetts, USA)? with whom it was reported, he hoped to get some money, b ut in this he was disappointed. She had money, but she kept it, and he co uld not get it. She did however, contribute somewhat toward their suppor t. She was a tyrant, and ruled with a rod of iron. The tables were now t urned -- she was more severe on him than he was with his first wife. Th ey did not live very happily together, though he was very industrious a nd got a comfortable living out of his farm until 1839 when he was taken i ll with a bad tumor and was removed to his brother Farnum's. After suffer ing much for a few months he died, without much sympathy from his famil y. His wife left for New Hampshire, USA after he was taken to his brothe rs in the spring, and I have not heard from her since. (Copied from the An dover Memorials by Agnes Blake Poor).

!He was a farmer. He moved from Rye to Portsmouth, where he lived some
years, and, probably in 1758, removed thence to Barrington. From
Barrington he became the second settler of New Durham, N. H., which was
probably in 1767. He settled on New Durham Ridge, on the farm now
owned, in two farms, by Charles Brackett and James Berry. There he
lived until his death, which took place in the middle of July, 1778. His
widow was living as late as April 1794.

I exchange data with people who have a interlocking marriage
into any surnames that interlocks into any of the branches
of my families.I started when I was 10 years old now 68years.
I am sharing my data in the interest of collaborative research.
I do this to help people to find there lineages and to fill
the pedigree charts.
I have not personally researched all families listed; dates
and information are subject to verification. Not responsible
for typographical errors misplaced citations. Missing
sources/references are because of my learning curve, not my
intention. You are encouraged to seek further documention
for your own confirmation.Further I have no control what
other people include about their families in any of the
data that they exchange.
If there are no dates about the living, then the computers
can not determine if the person is alive or deceased.
The sites set the living anywhere from 75 to 100 years
depending on the laws of the countries that they are in.
When I exchange with lineages the living are sometime shown
depending on who you are exchanging with, but my
request is that,if you update any of my data to the
internet, you also set the do not show the living, before
you update to the internet.
Also place in the source your contact email
address, and the lineage, so people can contact you
reqarding your update.
I have no claim to owning the data, except that which is
my immediate lineage, and even that is worked on by many
members of my family lineages. It is only as good as what
people put into it,that exchange with me. So look
in the notes of the genealogy for origin, if they put it
there,or the source.
If you are going to correct, update or put new branches on the
lineage your are inquirying about, please do not add from what
I have sent you,(This just duplicates how many more people
I have to find in the duplicates and merge them, edit your
notes to ensure that there is nothing there that you do not
want published.
Also do not submit information on copyrights that invades the
privacy of others especially for a relative that has not given
you permission to publish same.
Remember nothing is carved in stone except time.
The best way for me to describe the relationship, is for
example if you have 6,000 people in your data base
that are connected via interlocking marriages, and
you find that you have a marriage that is interlocked into
one of my people in my data base, then they are related
via interlocking marriages, does not matter how distant.
The difference here is that the interlocking into my data
base would link to over 631,749 people via interlocking
marriages.
My hobby is working on interlocking marriages,to any
family surname that is in my data, and I exchange with
people to find them, and to assist them in finding lineage
that link into their families.

of my families.I started when I was 10 years old now 68years.
