Famous Master Mariner and Yacht Captain Dies in Surry
(Special to the Bangor Daily News)
Ellsworth, February 7th, --- the death of Captain Soloman Jordan Treworgy, 77, one of the best known and respected citizens of Surry, occured at his home Saturday morning. He had been in decline for more than a year. Captain Treworgy was born in Surry, the son of Solomon J and Sophia Day Treworgy. At the age of 17 he moved with his mother to Penobscot where he entered the employ of Hutchins Brothers, Brick-makers. At the age of 20 he was captain of his own vessell in the coasting trade. Continuing he carreer at sea he became successively master of several large yacths, amoung them the Illawarra, Lorelie, and Idelia, known as one of the ablest yacht captains of his time. During the World War he was in the Merchant Marine as captain of a ship carrying sugar between New York, Philadelphia, the West Indies and Gulf ports. He was a member of Rising Star Lodge, F. and A.M., of Penobscot; Blanquefort commamdery, K.T. of Ellsworth, and a charter member of Arbutrus Grange, P. of H. of Surry. Town offices held by him were clerk, treasurer, and collector of taxes. In 1890 he married Ida Lewis Wardwell of Penobscot. She died in 1934. He leaves three sons, Harvey and Thomas Treworgy of Surry, and Lloyd Treworgy of Milo; three daughte
rs, Anne of Milo, Grace of Surry, and Mrs. Phillip Nevells of Blue Hill. Another son, Charles, lost his life in the fore at Colby College, December 4, 1922. Funeral Services will be in the Methodist Church, Monday afternoon at
2 o'clock, the Rev. Mr. Whittier officiating. Interment will take place at Bay View Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Harvey, Thomas and Lloyd Treworgy, Colby Wardwell, Phillip Nevells, and Howard Clark. Kindly omit flowers. "

This family is a speculation. Thomas C. is mentioned in cemetary records as having lived from 1800 to 1893. Elizabeth is listed in the L.D.S. Genealogical Index together with her husband and their children's birth dates. The 1800 census for Philadelphia lists a Jacob Tripler, age between 26 and 45, his wife, age between 16 and 26, and a male and a female child both under 10 years of age. It is here assumed that Jacob Jr. and Elizabeth were those two children and that Thomas was not yet born at census time. The origin of the family in America is undetermined but it is known that in Oct . or Sept. of 1765 a John Tripler of Germantown, Pennsylvania affirmed his loyalty and became a naturalized subject of Great Britain. Foreign imegrants were given rights of British subjects after seven years residency and upon taking an oath and taking the "sacrament of the Lord's supper". Quakers were exempt from the oath and taking the sacrament and were required to make an affirmation only. John was listed among the "Quakers and other Protestants who scruple to take an oath". John could have been Jacob's father. An additional piece of information comes from a record of Philadelphia births which mentions the births of two children to Johannes and Catharina Tripler: Maria Catharina b 10/15 1768 and Johannes b 1/1/1770; these could well have been Jacob's siblings. The father was John Tripler.
General Notes: Child - Jacob Tripler
Jacob's birth in 1793 is attested by writing on the back of a photograph which shows him as a rather old man. The writi ng mentions his birth year and also states that as a six-year-old child he was "passed up to George Washington in his carriage". Jacob is listed as a 60-year old liquor dealer in the 1860 census for Philadelphia, Ward 13 but he must have been older than that if the story about George Washington is true (Washington died in 1799). The authority for the names of the children listed here include the 1860 US census which lists Thomas, John, Margaret, and Caroline in the household of Jacob and the report of a 1828 "St. Nicholas letter" written to Henry, Thomas, Jacob, and Charles. The 1860 US census lists a William Tripler who was then a 31 year old shoemaker. He could be another son of Jacob but there is no other evidence. A painted mineature portrait of Jacob was given by his grandaughter, Louisa Copeland, to Mary W. Milman (Mary Tripler Wainwright). The portrait was later given to Thomas E. Wainwright by Mary's daughter, Mary Louise.

He was usually called Ben or E.B. by his friends. In the 1900 census he was listed as living with his family at 417 3r d Ave. in Durango, Colorado. Sometime after his father's death in 1906 the family moved to the state of Washington. On May 1 1910 he was confirmed in the Episcopl Church in the Diocese of Olimpia at St. James Church in Kent, Washington . He was graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma on June 15, 1916. Ben enlisted in the Army on April 9, 1917. Wit h the Washington Coast Artillery he was on guard duty at the copper mines in Butte Montana. Later he was attached to Ba ttery B. of the 63rd Coast Artillery Regement at it's formation at Fort Worden, Washington on Jan. 9, 1918. The 63rd le ft New York July 13, 1918 and landed at Liverpool on the 26th. They traveled by train to South Hampton and from there b y sea to Le Harve and again by train (box cars) to Aixe-sur-Vienne. They spent some time billeted at Aixe and trainin g at Limoges. On Oct. 22 they took their guns by tractor convoy to the firing range at La Courtaine. These details ar e taken from a letter Ben wrote to his mother on Nov. 24, 1918 from La Courtaine. He left France from Marseilles with h is regement on Feb. 6, 1919 and was discharged on March 21 from Camp Lewis, Washington. At the time of his marriage i n 1925 he was living in Southern California employed as an oil field inspector. Until 1932 when he moved with his fami ly to Montana he was living in Whittier California in a house next door to his sister Mary and her family. Also livin g with Mary was Ben's and Mary's mother Martha who died in 1931. In Montana the Wainwright family lived in Warmspring s for two years and then in Butte for the rest of Ben's life. He worked as an engineer in the gas division of the Monta na Power Company. He was an active member of the Episcopal Church and director of the March of Dimes organization in B utte. He was very active in the American Legion veterans organization and a leader in local Civil Defence.

General Notes: Husband - Laomedon King Troy
Laomedon was the son of Ilus, the founder of Troy, and of Eurydice. Laomed
onbecame king of Ilium (Troy), after his father's death.
The new king married Strymo, Placia or Leucippe. Whichever woman he marrie
d, he was the father of Podarces (Priam) and many other sons. He had at le
ast one daughter, Hesione. His son Tithonus was abducted by Eos, godde
ss of dawn, and taken to Ethiopia or Syria. The goddess bore him a son Mem
non.
Laomedon was known as the king, for his arrogance and his impiety, and w
ho refused to honors his promises.
Poseidon and Apollo, possibly punished for rebelling against Zeus, h
ad to workfor one year for a mortal. The two gods disguised as builder
s, was hired to work alongside with a mortal, Aeacus, son of Zeus and Aegi
na, (father of Peleus and Telamon), to build the walls of Troy. Poseidon a
nd Apollo wanted the vine of gold as payment for their work. Laomedon agre
ed.
After the gods finished building the wall, Laomedon refused to pay their w
ages for their services. Apollo caused the plague within the city, while P
oseidon sends a sea-monster to ravage the Trojan countryside.
The seers told Laomedon, that land would be spare, if the king would sacri
fice his daughter to the sea-monster. Chaining his daughter, Hesion
e, to a rock and waited for monster to arrive.
Returning from performing the ninth labour (fetching the girdle of Hippoly
te), Heracles stopped at Troy. Learning what was about to happen, Heracl
es wanted Laomedon's immortal horses in exchange for rescuing his daughte
r. Laomedon agreed.After killing the monster, again Laomedon refused to p
ay. Heracles angry at the Trojan king betrayal on his promise, plann
ed to return with an army, after he finished performing the twelve labours
.
Heracles raised an army in Tiryns, and the Argonaut hero, Telamon of Salam
is, son of Aeacus, joined the hero. After capturing the city, Laomedon w
as killed, along with many of his sons,and Heracles gave Heisone to Telam
on as concubine.
Heracles allowed Hesioneto ransomed one captive. Hesione ransomed her you
ngest brother Podarces, offering her veil as ransom. Podarces became ki
ng of Troy, and changed his name to Priam, which means "Ransom". Priam w
as also Troy's last king.

Being the only son of Laomedon to survive a war against Heracles, he was r
ansomed by his sister Hesione, and he became the new king of Troy.
His first wife was Arisbe, daughter of Merops, king of Percote. They h
ad a son, Aesacus, who was a gifted seer. Priam soon married Hecuba, daugh
ter of Dymas. With Hecuba, he became father of Hector, Paris, Cassandra, H
elenus and many other children (some say as many as fifty, by some other w
omen as well as Hecuba).
Before Paris was born, Hecuba had a vision, and the seer interpreted th
at vision, saying that Paris would one-day causes the destruction of Tro
y. Priam had his second son by Hecuba, exposed in the wild.
During his early reign, Priam was ally of Mygdonians and fought against t
he Amazons. The Amazons later becamehis ally, when he purified Penthesile
ia for killing her sister in hunting trip. Penthesileia led the Amazo
ns in the last year of the Trojan War, where she was killed at the han
ds of Achilles.
Years later, Paris returned to Troy and was recognised. Their parents h
ad forgotten the warning by the seer (possibly Aesacus) and welcome him ho
me.
When three goddesses asked Paris to judgeand award the golden apple to t
he fairest goddess, he awarded the apple to goddess of love, Aphrodite. Ap
hrodite promised him the fairest woman in the world, Helen of Sparta. Th
is would result in the outbreak of war between the Greeks and the Trojans.
Priam would have return Helen, when Greek embassy demanded the return of H
elen to her husband Menelaüs (Menelaus). But Paris prevailed upon his fath
er to refuse. As a result the war lasted for ten years and allbut one s
on would die in the war.
His son, Helenus, also a seer, would be the only son to survive the war. H
ecuba and all his daughters became enslaved to the Greek leaders. Neoptole
mus, son of Achilles, would kill the aged king (Priam) on the last d
ay of the war.
