William Longsword (died December 17, 942) was jarl (ruler) of Normandy.
Little is known about his early years. He was born overseas in one of t
he many Viking territories before his father Rollo settled in northern Fra
nce. William's mother was named Poppa; all that is known of her is that s
he was a Christian, and the daughter of a Count Berengar. According to t
he Planctus, he was baptized a Christian.
William succeeded Rollo sometime around 928. It appears that he faced a re
bellion early in his reign, from Normans who felthe had become too Franki
fied. The following years are obscure. In 939 William became involv
ed in a war with Arnulf I of Flanders, which soon became intertwined wi
th the other conflicts of the reign of Louis IV of France. He was kill
ed by followers of Arnulf while at a meeting to settle their conflict. H
is son Richard I of Normandy succeeded him.

Visitation will be held at The Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville, NB on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 from 7 to 9. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 from The Carleton Funeral Home Chapel at 2 PM. Interment will be in the Wakefield Cemetery.

Velma is survived by a son, Stuart (Lynn), Woodstock, NB, grandchildren; Jeff, Fredericton, NB, Stephanie Marchand (Corey), Barrie ON, David (Sandra), Fredericton, NB, great grandchildren; Eric, Charly, Spencer, Parker, sister, Azlee Cook, brothers; Wendell, Stanley, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held at The Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville, NB on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 from 7 to 9. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 from The Carleton Funeral Home Chapel at 2 PM. Interment will be in the Wakefield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Atlantic Cerebral Association.

Obituary Norville J Britton- 84 of Temple Avenue at Ocean Park ,
diedTuesday at Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford. He was born in Monticello, a son of George and Elzena (DeLong) Britton, attended localschools and owned a farm and a coal business during the war. In the early 1950's , he moved here and worked as a supervisor at Lucas Tree for 30 years. He lived here for
more than fifty years. Mr Britton was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows in Bridgewater and Old Orchard Beach. He enjoyed Nascar Racing as well as reading and history. Survived by his wife of 63 years- Louise Bickford Britton of Old Orchard Beach; two sons Duane
of Scarborough and Danis Sr of Saco; one brother Richard of Monticello; two sisters Dorothy Hutchison of Houlton and Harriet White of Mars Hill; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Buriel in Laurel Hull cemetery, Saco, Maine
