From the file, it appears as though John C. Chase initially applied for
his pension in Dec. 1889. Thereare two Stamens of Additional Evidence,
which are typed below:

resident of Elysian, MN: ...
Statement of Additional Evidence, 18 Dec. 1889, by Oliver F. Whitten,
husband of Mary D. Chase Whitten, John C. Chase's sister: ...
On June 18, 1903, John C. chase completed a Declaration for Invalid
Pension form, which wasnotarized by William K. Wilxox of Elysian. I
believe this form was completed in order to increase the amount of his
pension payment. At the time he was64 years of age. On the form he
stated, "that he is entirely unable to earna support by manual labor by
reason of a painful lung affliction due from exposure to cold rains
during the month of October, 1864, and an injured hip asa result of
being struck by falling timber while working on magazine at Chattanooga
in the month of Mrch 1865. Am now suffering from heart disease and
kidney disease, accompanied by liver and stomach trouble".
He was dropped from the Pension rolls on Jan. 21, 1904 because of
death. He had been paid at arate of $6.00.
[after his death, his wife applied for a widow's pension and received
$30.00 a month.]

General Notes: Husband - Jacob Hathaway
Jacob was born in a garrison house in Taunton where his parents fled in King Phillip's War. He was a selectman of Freetown 1720-9; assessor, 1725-36. As a young man he served in militia, but Quaker influence of Chaces, Shermans and Stranges drew him to join their group before 1719. He gave land for their meetinghouse, refused to serve in the expedition to Maine against the French and Indians and was in jail for this when his youngest son was born (Jael). He received land by deed just before his marriage, part of his father's land, dated January 29,1725.

Was made a freeman of the Massachutsetts Colony on 14 May 1634 (Register , vol 3, pp. 90, 92.)
In 1639 he moved to Yarmouth on Cape Cod and was appointed as a Constable for the town of Yarmouth 5 Mar 1839. A carpenter by trade.

He was a drummer boy in Myles Standish's Co., in 1645 which fought the Narraganset Indians. He was a large land owner in Yarmouth. The records of his children are found in the Quaker Records of Swansea Monthly Meetings. In 1681 most of his children went to the Town of Providence in the Rhode Island plantations. They all returned to MA in 1701. This family lived near Hering River on the East Side of Bass River in Yarmouth.
