Resting at The Cutcliffe Funeral Home from where the funeral will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Kevin MacKenzie officiating. Interment to follow in the family plot at West St. Peter's Cemetery.

Eddington - Carleton L. Leavitt,70, died unexpectedlySept. 4, 1991 at Alton.
He was born in Alton, April 11, 1921, the son of Alton "Roy" and Evelyn (Lovejoy)
Leavitt. He was a graduate of Old Town High School and served as a pilot in the U.S.
Air Force during World War II and Korea, retiring as a major after 26 years of service.
Mr. Leavitt was also a member of the Air National Guard of Bangor. He was married
to Catherine Birt in 1951. He is survived by his wife of Eddington; two daughters,
Dorothy Jane and her husband Stephen Sawyer, of Eddington, Karen and her husband
Stephen Curtis, of Winthrop; one son, Mark Leavitt of Yarmouth; his love of life, two grandchildren
Stephen Sawyer Jr. of Eddington and Stephanie Jean Curtis of Winthrop; one sister,
Dorothy Miller of Alton; one brother, Donald Leavitt of Old Town; several neices and nephews.
He was predeceased by sister Ruth Schulman; and a brother, Howard Leavitt. Graveside
services will be held 11 a. m. Saturday at the East Millinocket Cemetery, with the rev. Alfred Gagnon
afficiating. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be
made to the United Methodist Church of Alton, care of Margaret Meahann, RFD 1 (Alton), Old
Town 04468. Arrangements b y Kiley-Birmingham Funeral Home, 287 S. Main St., Old Town.

John A. Birt East Millinocket, Dec 3.--John A Birt, 73, a retired employee of the Oxford Paper Company and for many years a resident of Rumford, died early this morning at a Millinocket hospital following a short illness. He was born in Cardigan, Prince Edward Island, the son of Christopher and Catherine (Sutherland) Birt. He was a member of the IOOF and F and A Lodges of Rumford. For the past three months, he had resided with relatives in East Millinocket. Surviving are a niece, Mrs Catherine Leavitt of Presque Isle; seven nephews, Walter, William, Harold, and Daniel, all of East Millinocket, Lewis of Red Bank N.J., Robert of Dedham, Mass and George of Camp Gordon, Ga and several cousins. Remains will be sent to Cardigan PEI where funeral serives will be conducted. Burial will be in the family lot in the Cardigan Cematery,

General Notes: Wife - Pauline Helen Owens
East Millinocket – Pauline Birt died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at her home in East Millinocket with her family by her side after a four year battle with cancer. She was born March 14, 1930 to Joseph and Antoinette (Pelkey) Owens. Pauline graduated from Schenck High School in 1948, and later that summer, on August 14, 1948, married Daniel Birt. Together they spent 63 happy years, and were blessed with three children – Jonathan Birt and his wife Paula, and Clifford Birt, all of East Millinocket, and a daughter, Valerie Barnes and her husband Slugger of Millinocket. Pauline is also survived by five grandchildren, Ralph Birt and Nicole York of East Millinocket, Douglas Birt of Millinocket, Todd Lufkin of Bradford and Stacy Cochran of Bangor; seven great grandchildren, Brittany and Jessica Tinkham of Medway, Hayden and Henry Lufkin of Bradford, Courtney Birt of East Millinocket, Madison Birt of Medway, and Camden York of East Millinocket. Polly is also survived by two brothers, Arthur Owens and Lowanda, and Richard Owens and his wife Peggy, all of Florida; and a sister, Mary Lou Otis and her husband Reginald of Blaine, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Rand Owens. Pauline worked as a CNA at Katahdin Nursing Home for 29 years and retired at the age of 75. It can still be heard there if someone does something wrong, "if Polly Birt was here you wouldn't do that." Polly was a friend to all and enjoyed life to the fullest. To her Sunday School class she was Aunt Polly. To her family she was Gram. We always said that if she could make it to Bingo, then she was alright. She will be missed by all, especially her friends at bingo and at the nursing home. Private committal services will be held at a later date for the immediate family. The family requests no flowers. Gifts in memory of Polly may be sent to Community Health and Counseling Services, 313 Enfield Road, Lincoln, ME 04457.

DOUGLAS EDWARD BIRT
EAST MILLINOCKET Douglas Edward Birt, 56, died peacefully Aug. 7, 2006, with his loving family at his side, at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, N.Y. He was born April 22, 1950, in Bangor, the son of Walter A. and Dorothy (Larlee) Birt. Douglas grew up in East Millinocket and graduated from Schenck High School in 1968. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the East Millinocket Congregational Church. Doug graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1972 and sailed on various tankers and cargo ships for 33 years. Known for his hard work and dedication, he started as a third engineer and finished his career proudly as a chief engineer. Doug recently retired and in the last few years he worked as a part-time instructor at the Calhoon MEBA School in Easton, Md. and recently was also teaching at the Global Maritime Transportation School at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in King's Point, N.Y. Doug was very proud of reaching a goal that allowed him to share his knowledge and passion for marine engineering with his colleagues and students. Doug was a kind, gentle, generous man with a big heart, a wonderful sense of humor who enjoyed the company of his family and friends, old and new. He enjoyed family vacations, swimming, read-ing, movies, cooking and going for impromptu car rides. Doug was always ready to engage in a discussion involving politics or the stock market. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Randi of East Millinocket; his mother, Dorothy of Millinocket; his son, Aaron and special friend, Erica Butler, of Old Orchard Beach; his "baby girl," Kristen O'Don-nell and husband, Ryan, of Manchester, N.H.; and his best canine friend, Bobo. Doug will be remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his father, Walter A.; and his brother, Walter H. "Butch" Birt. Visiting hours will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at the Bouchard-Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the East Millinocket Congregational Church. Interment will take place after the funeral services at the East Millinocket Cemetery. Randi Sue Reed became the bride of Douglas Edward Birt in a March 20 ceremony at All Souls Congregational Church, Bangor. The wedding was conducted by the Rev. Richard E. Ryder Jr. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter H. Reed of Bingham. The bridegroom is the son of State Rep. and Mrs. Walter A. Birt of East Millinocket. The matron of horor was Mrs. Janice Reed of Rumford. Best man was Dale Flemming of East Millinocket. The bride is a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono and is employed as a teacher in East Millinocket. Birt was a graduate from the Maine Maritime Academy and is a marine engineer for the Mobil Oil Corp. After a reception at eh Holiday Inn East, Bangor, the couple honeymooned to Puerto Rico. They reside at East Millinocket.
