- GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF NEW ENGLAND SETTLERS VOL 1 lists Children wi
th their ages. Probably arrived in Salem MA from England in 1638. Henry a
nd his children are consistently listed as COOKE, not COOK in the Salem Vi
tal Records
Henry was the first Cook in America. He was at Salem, Mass. in 1638 and m
ost likely
arrived in US a short time before that. He is believed to be a descenda
nt of the Cooks of Kent or Hertsfordshire who migrated from Normandy in t
he 11th century. He came to New England as a Puritan. Sons, Samuel and Hen
ryJr. emigrated to Connecticut while the rest remained in Mass. The fami
ly also lived at Plymouth for a time. The farm was passed to the widow aft
er he died and it is unknown where it passed from there.
Oct. 10, 1649, Henry Cook of Salem, butcher, for ten pounds mortgaged h
is house, shop and one acre adjoining in Salem, to Henry Birdsall. Septemb
er, 1651, inventory of Henry Birdsall'sestate returned by Thomas Trusl
er and Edmund Batter. Estate 47 pounds, 19 shillings.
Henry married Judith BIRDSALL daughter of Henry BIRDSALL and Judithor Ag
ness KEMPE on 29 Jun 1639 in Salem, Mass. Judith was born on 2 Jun 16
11 in Norwich, England.. She died on 11 Sep 1689 in Salem, Mass. Some reco
rdsshow the name as Birdsall, Birdsale or Birsale.

Josias Cook lived first at Plymouth, where on September
16, 1665 he married Elizabeth (Ring) Dean. Pratt's History of
Eastham states that he was one of the seven Plymouth Colony
to found the town of Nanset (Eastham), and later was one of
the Deputies to the old Colony Court, Plymouth for the years
1652 to 1666. He died October 17, 1673 and in the Mayflower
Descendants XV, page 34, can be found his will, dated September
22, 1673, he "being at that time about 63 years of age."

Their son, Josias Cook married Deborah Hopkins July 27,
1668. He died January 31, 1731-2.
