SIMEON RICHARDSON, youngest son of Hezekiah and Elizabeth (Walker)
Richardson; b. in Townsend May 4, 1763.
It is said that he was a Revolutionary soldier. To be more definite,
it is stated that he performed military service in the Rhode Island
campaign, Aug., 1778.If so, it is remarkable, as he was then but little
more that fifteen years old. This is considerable under the military
age, and he could not then have been compelled to do military duty.
About 1790, he went to Maine, as four of his brothers had done, and
made his home in Solon, on the Kennebec River, a few miles above
Norridgewock. He died there. The name of his wife has not been reported.
His children were:
Simeon, lived and died in Madison, an adjoining town.
Nahum.
Polly, unmarried.
Lucy, unmarried.
Rhoda, unmarried.
Two other daughters, unmarried
All have died.

STEPHEN RICHARDSON; b. July 6, 1743; m. Mercy Darling.
He was a blacksmith and lived in various places. In 1768 he lived in
Bridgewater; after that in Pembroke, Mass.,which at that time bordered
on Bridgewater. In 1791, he removed to Buckfield, then called Bucktown,
in Maine. That town was then in Cumberland County, but now in Oxford
County.
March 15, 1793, he bought of Stephen Swett, physician of Bucktown, one
hundred acres of land in that town; which in the June following he sold,
and brobably bought elsewhere. [Cumb. Deeds, xx. 77, 219.]
His sons were farmers or mechanics.

READFIELD, MAINE - EARLYSETTLERS - Readfield Historical Society:
Thaddeus Richardson
Three Richardson brothers helped settle Woburn, Mass. in 1640, having
come to Charlestown c1637. A century and a half later, around 1800,
Thaddeus, a blacksmith and great-grandson of Samuel Richardson, came to
Readfield with his wife Mary (Sanborn) and family. Their six children had
all been born in Limington, Maine between 1779 and c1798.
The first son, Thaddeus b.1779, married Sarah Blethen. Daniel, the
second son who never married, drowned in 1806. Fourth son, Asa was given
one half of his father’s homestead at the time of his marriage to Sarah
Cottle in 1817, but later moved to Augusta. Fifth son, Stephen, died
unmarried on the homestead in 1847. Youngest son Joseph is said to have
been a Congregationalist minister.
In 1808 the third son, Ebenezer, married Relief Eatona Readfield native.
Ebenezer was a farmer and raised his family of seven children in
Readfield. Two died young, four moved out of state, and the youngest,
George Frost, farmed on the Sadie Dunn Road. His home is what we call the
Jesse Welch house today. Some older Readfield residents remember there
used to be an old blacksmith shop nearby. George Frost Richardson married
Abby A. Jose of Readfield and their three children were Hattie b.1859,
William M. b.1860 Georgie May b.1872. Georgie married Louis S. Johnson
of Mt. Vernon. They carried on Ebenezer’s farm, and had one daughter,
Mabel Johnson.
Louis Johnson was the son of Edwin and Amelia (McVane) Johnson. Their
home, which wasbuilt by Theodore Marston before 1790, was located on the
Fogg Road, just over the Readfield / Mt. Vernon town line. The Johnson
house had been unoccupied for many years when it mysteriously burned
earlier this spring (1999).

He lived in Woburn, or perhaps latterly in Stoneham and died in the
autumn of 1723, in his thirty-second year, as is apparent from the
inventory. The Probate Record says that "he died at Charlestown--i.e.,
in Stoneham, then part ofCharlestown--'Charlestown End'-- on his return
from his majesty's service atthe eastward." The explanation is, the
Indians in Mai8ne, instigated by Sebastian Rasles, the French and Jesuit
missionary at Norridgewock, who was in close correspondence with the
governor of Canada, had since the year 1722 beencommitting great ravages
on the English settlements. They had captured nine families at Merry
Meeting Bay in June, 1722; had burned Brunswick, and had taken sixteen
Massachusetts vessels at Canseau. In the spring of 1723, they ravaged
Falmouth, Scarborough, Berwick, Wells, York and Dover. The government of
Massachusetts had sent a force against these savages. Theophilus
Richardson was one of the men sent, and died soon after his return. This
war lastedtill Dec., 1725, and included the famous "Pigwacket Fight," in
May, 1725.
The inventory is dated Dec. 12, 1723. It includes only personal
estate, and amounts but to 13.19 pounds. This shows that the family had
become poor. Thewidow makes oath that this is "all she knows of
estate," and she has to "support herself and five small children, all
sick at home of the feaver." Of the three sons named below, Deacon
Nathan Richardson, their father's cousin, was appointed guardian Nov. 30,
1733, and held a small amount of property in trust for them.
Col. Edmund Goffe, of Cambridge, was appointed administrator March 23,
1724-5.
Ruth, the widow of Theophilus Richardson, was m., April 6, 1726, to
Ebenezer Parker, of Stoneham.

The Richardson Memorial by John Adams Vinton, 1876 printed by Brown

THOMAS RICHARDSON,was the youngest of the three brothers of that name,
EZEKIEL, SAMUEL and THOMAS, who united with Edward Convers, Edward
Johnson, John Mousall, William Learned, and others, in the settlement of
Woburn, and the formation of a church there, in 1641. The seven men,
whose names have just been written were the commissioners chosen by the
church in Charlestown, Nov. 5, 1640, to commence the settlement; with the
exception of William Learned was substituted soon after for Thomas
Graves, who had been chosen, but declined taking part in the enterprise.
It is believed that Samuel and Thomas Richardson, who were younger than
Ezekiel, did not come from England, till at least five years after. The
colonists suffered greatly from famine during the first year, and a few
came over till 1633 or later. A list of inhabitants of Charlestown,
dated Jan. 9, 1633-4, doesnot contain the name of Samuel or Thomas
Richardson. The same deficiency exists in a similar list, made one year
after. The first notice we find of either of these brothers, is dated
Feb. 21, 1636, when Mary, the wife of Thomas Richardson united with the
church in Charlestown. Samuel and Thomas Richardson joined said church
the 18th of the 12th month [February], 1637-8; in consequence whereof
they were admitted freemen of the colony, May 2, 1638. Their names are
found on the records of Charlestown for the first time in 1637, when to
each of them the town granted a house-plot, clearly indicating that they
had recently become citizens of the place. The same year, their names
arefor the first time found on the records as citizens of Charlestown.
They doubtless came from England together.
The three brothers were all young. They probably did not marry until
on the eve of embarking for America; Ezekiel in 1630; Samuel and Thomas
in 1635. This is inferred from the dates of the births of their children.
The three brothers had lots assigned them, April 20, 1638, on the
"Misticke Side and above the Ponds," that is, in Malden. The share they
had in the settlement of Woburn, and the organization of the church in
that town, has been sufficiently related in the notices already given of
Ezekiel and Samuel Richardson.
Thomas Richardson died in Woburn, Aug. 28, 1651. There is no will of
his on record. Below is an inventory of his estate foundin the
Middlesex Registry of Probate, dated Sept. 22, 1651, and signed by Edward
Johnson, Edward Converse, John Mousall and Samuel Richardson.
...Total 133.14.4 pounds
Further, the said Thomas Richardson died possessed of one dwelling
house, bard and one hundred acres of land, situate in the Town of Woburn,
of which 25 acres are plowed land, and ten of meadow. Real Estate valued
at 80.0.0 pounds.
Following the inventory, and, it would seem, a part of it, is this
statement:
"He hath left a wife, three sons, and four daughters. The eldest son
is 8 years old; the second, 6 years; and the third, three-quarters [of a
year]. The eldest dau. is 13 years old; the second, 11 years; the third,
4 years; the fourth, 2 years.
The name of the wife of Thomas Richardson was Mary. After his death
she became, Oct. 26, 1655, the second wife of Michael Bacon, senior, who
is said to have come from Ireland, and was on of theoriginal inhabitants
of the town of Woburn, 1641. He was the ancestor of the distinguished
Dr. Leonard Bacon, of New Haven, Ct. Bacon's first wife, also named
Mary, died July 4, 1688. His only son married a dau. of Thomas and Mary
Richardson.

THOMAS RICHARDSON, second son of Thomas and Mary Richardson; born in
Woburn, Oct. 4, 1645; m., first, in Cambridge, Jan. 5, 1666-70, Mary
Stimpson. There were married by the eminent Daniel Gookin, so often
mentioned in the early history of Massachusetts. In those days,
marriage, being regarded as a civil ordinance, was performed by the civil
magistrate. The town records of Cambridge, as copied, call Thomas
Richardson's wife Mary Stevenson. She died June 7, 1690, the mother of
nine children. Second, in Billerica, Dec. 29, 1690, Sarah Patten, widow
of Thomas Patten, of Billerica, who died Jan. 16, 1689-90, aged about
54. They were married by Major Jeremiah Swain.
He removed from Woburn to Billerica, previously known as Shawshin,
about the year 1667; and settled, it is believed, on a large tract of
about nine hundred acres of land, quite in the easterly part of the town,
called the Cambridge School Far, a little west of the Shawshin River, and
north of the present Boston Road. He was a soldier in the company of
Capt. Samuel Gallup in the land expedition to Canada, by way of Albany in
1690, with utterly failed. He was a deputy from Billerica to the General
Court of Massachusetts in 1703 and 1704.
Some time after, he gave to his eldest son,Thomas, a farm near the
Boston Road, now Washington Streety; to Andrew, a farm north of Thomas
and to Nathaniel, a farm north of Andrew. The deed to Andrew is dated
Oct. 14, 1705, and there is a deed to his grandson Thomas, son of Thomas,
dated Feb. 25, 1709-10.
He died in Billerica, Feb. 25, 1720, in his seventy-six year. His
widow Sarah died Nov. 20, 1734

Cause of Death:<CAUS> killed by lightening
Mail from Janis (Gray) Nelson:
(about Thomas' brother-in-law, John C. Chase):
"June 26, 1896: J. C. Chase was at the depot Wednesday morning ready to
take a train for the (GAR) encampment at Northfield, when he received a
message containing the sad news that his wife's brother, Mr. Thos.
Richardson, together with his wife, had been killed by lightning on
Monday evening at their home in Newell, Iowa, for which town the
immediately departed."
"July 3, 1896: Mr. and Mrs. J. chase returned from Newell, Iowa, on
Tuesday where Mr. and Mrs. T. Richardson were buried on Friday last. Mr.
Chase reports the sad affair as a strange phenomenon of the lightning
freaks. It appears they were sitting on a lounge looking over a paper
together when the bolt struck the roof and followed the rafter and joist
in line with them, entering their heads and killing them instantly. A
daughter 18 years of age, was in the room at the time and was uninjured;
the stormdid no damage elsewhere in the neighborhood (this is not true
according to the Newell newspaper."
From The Newell Mirror, Newell, Iowa, June 26, 1896:
Killed by Lightning-During the severe storm on Tuesday evening, June 23,
at about 6:45 o/clock, Thomas M. Richardson and his wife, Ardella, who
were living in W. A. Hanke's residence in the eastern part of town, were
struck by lightning and instantly killed. Mr. and Mrs. Richardson were
sitting on a sofa, leaning against the wall, in the southeastern corner
of the sitting room. One of the daughters, Laura, was sitting in the
same room and the other, Sadie, was in the bed room. The lightning came
down between the husband and wife, as evidence of its deadly power was
visible on one side of the husband's face and the other side of the
wife's. Their clothing and the sofa were set on fire. Neighbors wre at
the house in a few minutes and did all in their power forthe living and
the dead. Laura Richardson had succeeded in putting out the fire before
help arrived, burning her hands badly in doing so. Neither of the
daughters who were at home were injured by the lightning. The sad news
was borne to Miss Florence Richardson, who is teaching north of town, and
Mrs.Richardson's father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Crockett and her
son, Bert Lewis, were summoned by telegram from Storm Lake, arriving on
the 8:30 train.
